Xbox One sells one million+ (sell through to consumers) in all territories worldwide

This could be two things:
1) viral marketing to increase ergency to gain sales (this could be done to encourage people to buy the remaining unsold consoles.

2) not able to meet demand...supporting the theory of supply issues. This could be catastrophic as some waiting for the XO might settle on the PS4 this holiday.

Is XO an acceptable abbreviation at? I don't like the term Xbone and typing out Xbox One.

Remember that Microsoft is probably making a bigger profit off the XBox One hardware than Sony is off the PS4...I'm especially convinced of that after the iFixit teardown of the box.

So I think Microsoft is pretty happy with things right now.

Well done MS. Think how many you'd have sold if you weren't supply constrained.

You have to laugh at the people who try to turn this into a bad number.

You have to laugh at the people who think that's it an impressive number after Sony did the same number in ONLY North America, last week. Than you factor in the Xbox1 is ONLY launching in these 13 countries this year, While the PS4 is launching in 40+ ( I lost count) countries this year.

It is an impressive number. It's just less impressive than the same number for just the NA territory.

Good numbers but not too fantastic in comparisons to Sonys. I think I would have expected 1.5m to be something that bettered Sonys numbers due to the Xboxs WW figure. The deceiving point is saying "over" when it could be as little as 1k,10k or nearly 500k, though the latter is highly unlikely and the formers are more likely due to the fact MS would be touting 1.5m or whatever then, so it's certainly closer to 1m. Which considering the launch was in 11 more countries it sounds less impressive. Obviously MS didn't manufacture as many as Sony but you have to wonder also about the demand then as well. Certainly if it's "mostly" sold out. But yes good launch it seems and great for the industry as a whole.

We'll find out in a week. But nothing lines up perfectly, so identical comparisons will be impossible unless we get NPD leaks for xbox and PS4 November sales (but do they even include online sales)

- PS4 was earlier than Xbox so had less time to produce consoles for US
- Xbox launched in more markets, so should have a bigger demand than US only, but then they are also diluting their stock to cover all those markets
- second PS4 launch is in more markets than the Xbox launch, so again they should have more demand, and likewise will have stock dilution
- could Sony have shipped more than 1m to the US if it didn't have to divert stock to service the second wave? Xbox launch is 'global', so it is likely their entire production up to this point. If Sony do 1m in Europe and Australia next week, they basically produced 2m in the same period

- PS4 was earlier than Xbox so had less time to produce consoles for US

Nope! PS4 started produce way before MS with XO. 1 or 2 months earlier. That's a catch.

EDIT :

And, one thing i forgot.
By Gamestop : over 2 mil. people waiting for their PS4 :

Good numbers in isolation, troubling for MS vs Sony US day 1 numbers. Still early days but I'm now confident that once PS4 launches in outside US on 29th it's going to be off to a decent lead worldwide : then Sony has Asia to look forward to as well.

I think XB1 will sell okay overall; just looks like it's going to be tailing the PS4 by a fair bit this gen while Nintendo is in real danger of being the straggler unless they can get the Wii U demand up and soon.

Just because its slightly less impressive than the exclusive NA only PS4 numbers, does not take anything away from Microsoft's accomplishment, i know people love to compare the two, but historically the Xbox One number is very impressive.

The thing now is that Xbox One has no other major places to launch in, "Tier 2" European countries is not going to yield big numbers for them, Japan even less so. Basically this is the launch, there is no follow ups like Sony has with Europe soon, their stronghold and Japan which is a gigantic question mark in regards to consoles in general.

I thought consoles were dead and mobile gaming was the new thing? Proved them wrong.

Congrats on 1+ million sold, it's going to be a good winter for gamers ^_^

So PS4 is ahead of XB1 is NA. Game over.
This is sell through don't know why people are saying shipped.
I think it's because a lot of us have a hard time seeing this as a sell through when we saw consoles still available today. Then again they did say sell through and not sold out. So we will see when the numbers increase tomorrow.

Both consoles were going to sell out, the real competition begins in january. And it`s going to be interesting to know how many units has sony shipped to europe, if they manage to get another 1+ Million in the stores, that shows a massive manufacturing numbers compared with MS, it is doubling them in the amount of units available

ItAintEasyBeinCheesy

it's 4th of July in my asshole
Went to a Target today to get a 2DS looked like they where sold out of XBones, had peripherals there though. (Australia)

Didn't check any other stores though.

Your Original Xbox vs PS2 is a very unfair comparison...at the time, the Original Xbox did NOT have any solid foundation built yet..while PS2 did. So that power difference comparison you made does not really count.

Another thing i would like to point out is i noticed a HUGE amount of hasty judgements going on around Gaf and other gaming forums since the PS4 and Xbox One has been released.. The majority of Day 1 buyers have been nothing but the more hardcore gamers which in all honestly is a TINY FRACTION of the main bulk of future buyers...the regular average joe crowd is always the majority in console sales...believe it of not. My point is...just about everything you are saying along with everyone else making judgements so early in the next gen consoles are imho ...very hasty to say the least.

To be honest..if we really want a GOOD indication this early in these new consoles...go call around and ask if the xbox one is in stock and ask if the PS4 is in stock....i guarantee the xbox one is in stock in A LOT of stores..where as the PS4 is no where to be found and most likely will be hard to find a PS4 well after Christmas passes on by.

Price does matter...right now not so much because again most buyers are the more hardcore buyers that already set aside funds to buy a console on launch day...the rest of the sales in the near future and far off future will be the more casual gamers or those that simply will only be able to afford a console later down the road.

Long story short....i would put all my marbles on PS4 this generation by a HUGE margin...they just got too much going for it this time around and most important is price point and exclusives..the two main factors in a successful console and Sony has this sowed up BIGTIME.

You make some interesting points. PS4 is outselling XB1.

Your creepy ass joy in the matter.. It just makes me reflect over the last 7 or 8 years.. Where you there making logical conclusions while MS was dominating North America?

Just admit it. You are just so horny for Sony.

For me it is a little rough. I was routing for MS, but it was clear a few months ago that they were not going to win. Maybe they can put some shit together and compete.

But your goofy ass is really Into this. You are measuring your penis behind a giant Japanese corp. and a giant American corp. you have nothing else going for you outside of these giant corporate clouds. I hope the PS4 wins, and wins big. Because I am not sure what you would do with yourself in a MS world.

Are people still in denial about JRPGs being a niche genre? Because this has already been addressed. Final Fantasy XIII didn't even ship 7 million copies worldwide by 2013 and this was a game that was used to stuff channels like mad. You could pick up a copy for less than a dozen beers where I live after 6 months on sale. Meanwhile, Black Ops II sold over 7 million in America alone in the first month.

And Final Fantasy is your example of a big budget, cross-platform seller.

If you like JRPGs, by all means, get a PS4. But they are a niche genre and the comparative sales will be equal to those buying a Wii U for 3D World.

The Xbox is not missing out on any big third-party titles. After E3, it was looking like it might do Wii U numbers. This is now proven not to be the case.

You're looking at the broadest genre in the narrowest way, just comparing the top selling franchise isnt a worthwhile metric, even moreso when one is online multiplayer focused. People will freely pick and choose JRPGs to buy while they'll all pile on one or two FPS because everyone is playing that one and they want to play together and no-one wants to play a multiplayer game when the online is already dead

My guess is that both consoles will sell out stock for the next month or so. It's only after that that we can measure the most successful of the two. My guess is that the PS4 will be far easier to sell and won't last on shelves as long but that won't matter in the short run.

The question is definitely "does Sony have the stock for it?"

We don't know if things have changed, but it definitely felt like the demand from EU exceeded even their most optimistic expectations.

I think it has! Sony started produce PS4 before MS started with XO. A few months earlier.

Definitely think the Xbox will be supply constrained for the foreseeable. They launched in less countries due to 'localisation issues' but going off these numbers they really hadn't manufactured that much

Then take into account they need to ship to another 20 countries early next year. While trying to meet demand in the original 13.

It's an uphill battle.

Ordinarily it's an uphill battle you want.

But when Sony are launching in 32 from the off with one mil sold in 2 territories.... It's going to be an interesting 4-5 months

We have no idea how many consoles were manufactured.

If both SONY and MS only manufactured say, 1.5m consoles then MS will have matched SONY but they shipped them across more countries. NA has no relevance whatsoever.

Do we have any idea
a) how many consoles both have been able to produce up to launch?
b) how many consoles both are able to produce right now?
...aside from the vague "yield issues" rumors?

I can easily see global sales of PS4 being around 3 million by the end of the year and maybe nearly 2 million for Xbox One.

Tretton even said he believes the PS4 can get to 3 million in NA alone this very year, which seems like insanity.

Bartel corroborated Sony Computer Entertainment of America CEO Jack Tretton's recent projection that the PS4 would sell 3 million units in North America by the end of the year, noting that GameStop expects "to sell a large portion of that."

I am glad both are doing well so far, obviously the Xbox One wont outsell the PS4 in NA this month, its just technically impossible, Sony is likely already shipping shit ton of consoles for Brack Friday Bunduru. But that is a production thing, not so much a demand thing.

The Xbox numbers are still very impressive

You think Sony has allocated 500k to their biggest gaming region just lol.
The difference is apparent. One console sold 1 million in NA. The other 1 million WW.

I remembered that Pachter said MS started production in september, with 1 million unit every month. That means that we should have 2 million units in stock now, not 1 million.

I've overseen worldwide product launches with multiple companies and you really don't get international sell through numbers this fast that aren't rough estimates. Xbox may very well have sold that many units, but I have no doubt they wrote this press release days ago and were going to send it off regardless since they knew there wpuld be sme kind of statistic or estimate th could use to justify the figure.

I think Sony will do insane numbers with PS4. Maybe over 4 million by the end of the year. I can see that PS4 will outsell 2:1 over Xbox One.

I feel consumer electronics launches are becoming more and more front-loaded.
I predict XBO will have a very hard time doing the same overall numbers as 360. Same goes for PS4 VS PS3. January will be interesting.

So in the end all these numbers are basically meaningless, as in the end the ability to supply/saturate the market will determine who wins this holiday season.

Well Sony will easily win this holiday season. No doubt about it. The only question is by how much.
