Xbox One will be Number One in Sales

I could still see it happening based on what we know up to this point. Xbox brand is stronger in America than Playstation and people are invested in their friend lists and gamerscores.

The infinite power of the dudebro

Who coined up that horrible moniker?, are they supposed to be the jocks who only play sports and shooters?, who ever they are i hope they grow a brain cell or two and realize what supporting the crap that Microsoft is enforcing means for the not so distant future of gaming, i hope they get the W.o.M about the details in time and don't support such anti-consumer hogwash.

Xbox was Number 2 in sales in front of Gamecube but behind PS2.

360 is Number 3 in sales, behind Wii and PS3.

XBone will not revert that.

PSN being free and Xbox Live costing money isn't going to mean a damned thing if people's friends are on the latter. People want to play multiplayer games with their friends, and if their friends are on Xbox Live, they'll be there too.
If the PS4 has free online, a competitive price, competitive online features, plus better looking and playing games, those friends will be on PSN. You can't think of things as being the way they were at the beginning of this gen; things have changed, and a lot of the past limitations on PS3 are about to be a distant memory. COD won't be enough.

Another thing that's interesting is how insulted some people are getting by this prediction, as if I said something terrible about a family member of theirs or said something blasphemous about their religion of choice.

Come on, fellas... why so serious? :)

It's just that i'm baffled about how some people will gleefully take it up the rear sporting a humongous grin from ear to ear...

This is very much true.

However, to ignore the philosophical design changes they've decided to enact with this system is silly. The number of people that have signed up for XBL and want to play with their group of friends may have already met its cap. They may have essentially plateaued themselves.

It really depends on how well it sells in North America. Because it sure as shit isn't going to sell in Japan and isn't going to do great in Europe either if it's killer differentiation is TV and TV apps (aren't there still Netflix and Hulu problems in licensing?).

Because you don't fucking speak for us.
As much as you hate the One right now, chances are you're going to buy one sometime during its lifespan because you are a gamer and it will be tough to resist when all is said and done. Here's five reasons why the One will top the charts:
I kept quiet there, but I'm pointing out this actually is really god damn abrasive.

Yeah, no.

The amount of people who care about the difference between $0 a year and $60-70 a year is so miniscule that it isn't even enough to have a house party. People pay a month's worth of XB Gold for coffee every single day.

Oh, the coffee line. And here I thought we were having a serious conversation in this thread.

As much as you hate the One right now, chances are you're going to buy one sometime during its lifespan because you are a gamer and it will be tough to resist when all is said and done. Here's five reasons why the One will top the charts:

Kinect 2.0
Kinect 2.0 will be the next Wiimote. The new Dance Central and Kinect Sports will be just the tip of the iceberg. MS knows they need a few more killer apps to start the avalanche effect and that's exactly what they have been working on in the hopes of having the next "Wii Sports" phenomenon on their hands. No other system can provide this type of mass market offering for grandma and little tommy alike.

Power of Dudebro
The biggest franchises out there will be on One. Some of them will be on the PS4, sure, but there's nowhere else where you'll find Halo, COD, Gears, Madden, etc. all on one console. Don't underestimate the dudebros who continue to fuel the yearly installments of COD, etc. and play it on the 360/PS3 instead of playing superior graphical versions on PC. The hardcore may care about FPS and res and such, but dudebro's don't.

Marketing
Wii U already has a flat tire so only the PS4 is in the way from topping the charts. Wii U will rebound a bit, no doubt, and PS4 is formidable, but Microsoft already proved it can maneuver around Sony whenever it needs to to maintain sales momentum whether that comes in the form of advertisements, aggressive price cuts and promos, or marketing deals with publishers. Microsoft has the deeper pockets and it's looking like they may have a price advantage all gen long.

Exclusives
There will be a bunch of One exclusives, moneyhat variety or otherwise. A handful of those will be hard to resist for even the biggest Sony or Nintendo fan so gamers will give in whether they like it or not. There's already been talk of Microsoft opening the wallet for Respawn's game and possibly Dead Rising 3. We know Ryse is coming and sounds like Insomniac and others may have exclusive stuff in the works.

Innovation
Microsoft were big innovators with the 360, whether people want to admit it or not and it's looking like they will keep that trend going. Gamers who think that Sony won't follow suit with the used games restrictions are fooling themselves. The future is here. You will either support it or not (see Steam). Dedicated servers, dynamic achievements, in-game skype and internet feeds, video sharing, cloud enhancements, clean and snappy interface, real-time multitasking/switching, smart TV, etc., etc. Few companies will be able to match the One's online gaming experience, but it will come at a cost, of course.

No one can predict sales numbers as today, I can predict thou as a non-US costumer I have zero interest in the XBONE.

ITT: spot the Microsoft fanboys getting upset at people pointing out that Microsoft is making similar errors Sony did in launching the PS3, and expecting the same outcome.

Remind me, what is the definition of insanity?

While I don't agree with all the points that the original OP posted, but I do agree that out of the two units, I see the Xbox One at least in the USA being the number 1 console by far.

I'm so happy Sony is (seemingly) making all the right decisions for next-gen. Although the scary part is that (hardware-wise) that didn't give them any favors with the Vita.

Another thing that's interesting is how insulted some people are getting by this prediction, as if I said something terrible about a family member of theirs or said something blasphemous about their religion of choice.

You won't even state if your talking just about the US market or the whole world market .

I partially agree, I think it will dominate the United States at least. However I believe software sales will be lower than expected due to its multimedia focus taking attention away from all but the biggest games on the platform (madden, cod, etc.).

I expect PS4 to do the best amongst gamers though, I envision a higher attach rate for it.

People more than ever are also questioning the value of Live these days. Smartphones and tablets give access to those same apps for free that are behind a pay wall on Live. PSN has near parity concerning online features now, plus PS+ has become one of the best deals this generation. You can't dismiss these things; they are important to a whole lot of people.

Keep playing up that psn is free xbox live is doom. How many times we keep hearing the same thing, yet nothing changes.

I think the whole no used games and always online thing is a real wild card. I have no idea how much it'll impact the success of the console. It could doom it to failure if certain retailers act or consumers flock to other products. It could have little to no effect and in which case the OP is correct. It could just be enough for the PS4 to beat the Xbox One, but not for it to fail. I have no idea. It's hard to guess.

Xbox One to come with lube confirmed?

It'd better.

I hope that the *shudders* "dudebros" get wind of the fact that they won't be able to lend/borrow games from friends/relatives w/o asking for their act info or paying as if they were buying a new game, i honestly can't see them reacting positively to that, Sony should mock that on their upcoming ad campaign.

Kinect 2.0
Power of Dudebro
Marketing

I agree with your points on these three and if Microsoft executes well in each (not half-assed kinect games or average quality dudebro games), I think the harmony of these aspects working together with the broad entertainment focus can potentially resonate strongly with the mass market and casuals. Mircosoft really went the route that is going to make them the most money at the expense of somewhat alienating the core gaming crowd, people without reliable ISPs, Japan, backwards compatibility, etc. These people are unfortunately the minority when looking at the full pie and not worth the extra effort for Microsoft to go from average investment to strong support.

Exclusives
I think Sony's stronger focus on gaming and developer relations (especially with indies) will produce slightly more exclusives on PS4, but almost all western third party titles will be multiplatform because of the similarity in architecture. I do think these games will look noticeably better on the PS4 though. Baseline XBO visuals and performance should be easy to achieve on PS4. When you have similar architectures, but beefier specs on the PS4 side, scaling up performance becomes easier at a multiplatform engine level.

Innovation
Overall non gaming innovations (not really innovations but better execution) are on the XBO side. Sony will probably be playing catchup again all generation when it comes online and cloud infrastructure, and OS/non gaming features.

None of that stuff is going to matter with the demographic we're talking about. The only reason Sony lost is they released at an absurd price point, were difficult to develop for and had their release date undercut by a year. Those are the reasons they lost. Unless Microsoft makes those same blunders, Microsoft's current North American/UK momentum is going to carry into the next generation. The fact that the Xbox One is going to be pushed as the go to systems for Madden and Call of Duty, alongside the fact that this same demographic of gamer is infatuated with Halo and Gears of War, is going to solidify that fact.

Price of entry for Xbox Live is not going to matter, peoples friends will be on Xbox Live and so will they as a result. Graphical superiority doesn't matter, especially if the initial visual fidelity of both platforms are comparable at launch. The fact that PSN may finally be comparable to Xbox Live, and at a lesser price point (free), is a non-issue. Xbox Live is currently synonymous with online gaming, and perception within this demographic is infinitely more valuable than facts.

At the end of the day, it's going to be about perception and name recognition, and as long as Microsoft's advertisement is on point, they're pretty much guaranteed to dominate this demographic.

OP, if you had left out the part telling people what they were going to do, you might have made a post I would agree with. As it is, you sound like a prat. Yeah, it will probably sell very well. No, I won't be buying one.

Dudebro is the dumbest fucking term. No wait, casuals is the dumbest fucking term. However, I agree that the XB1 is going to sell well. It has some universal appeal whether or not GAF likes it.

It'd better.

I'd fit into a some what of a "dudebro" gamer considering I play a lot of NHL, Madden and Battlefield 3. I don't lend or borrow games because I'm not fucking 8 years old. I'll wait and see for e3.

What will be fascinating to me is when the uniformed casuals and parents go into buy a system and sales associates are laying out the benefits of each. If Sony keeps online play free and of course keeps media services clear of a paywall that is one helluva thing to break to people with regards to the Xbox. The 360 had the advantage early of being the new kid on the block and setting the standard, thus paying for Live made since at the time and has since become something people deal with to play with their friends. Now all of those friends can migrate all at once to a free and by all means equal service to play online.

Of course it is hard to gauge brand loyalty but people can be fickle and easily swayed. See PS2->PS3

I already barely use the 360 I have, why in the flying fuck would I bother to buy a XJuan when it has absolutely nothing I enjoy and a lot of systems I hate.

All I see in this post is someone with no friends to lend games to.

Blanketing terminology is definitely dumb, but it's a necessary evil needed to discuss things from time to time, regardless of whether the term in question is 100% apt or not.

It was designed to target the biggest markets (COD/Sports/Entertainment). It will sell because it was designed to sell, not to appeal to gamers.

Came into this thread expecting OP post to be "...for me to poop on!" Left disappointed.

Time will tell where the sales fall. Too little hard info to make good predictions.

Give this man a gold star. He is the only one talking sense in this place for the last 35 hours.

The only way I would ever own an Xbone is if it is cracked to disable Kinect, online requirement, and authentication of legitimate retail games.

Speaking of which, wouldn't Gamestop be more eager to recommend a PS4 or a WiiU over an XB1 due to the whole used games thing?

Seems like they'd want to keep their business and all.
