Xbox Quietly Releases New 4TB Expansion Card For Series X/S

Too expensive. I got the 2tb when it went on sale even that one is still expensive. Not worth it unless it goes for a big sale.

Not sure why people are comparing this to the PSVita memory cards. Sure they were proprietary but Xbox does allow you to juggle games to a USB3 HDD, and run them directly from there if it's an Xbox one or 360 titles. Definitely a lot more flexible

Storage more expensive than the fucking console? Fuck you and the horse you rode in on. Terrible since launch and has only gotten worse.

Reminds psvita's memory stick L
Any company release with proprietary memory storage solution should go to the fucking hell

UPDATE (June 2, 2025): It seems that Best Buy has now removed the store listing that revealed the Seagate 4TB Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S. It's unclear if has cancelled orders too, since this was definitely available to buy and even had a 24 hour shipping option. It stands to reason that this was listed too early, and was probably set to be revealed at a later date. We'll keep you updated.

Demand is massive and growing !!!

I don't see why Microsoft doesn't just open the thing up to any nvme drive in an enclosure at this point.

The hate Xbox gets on NeoGAF these days is taking the piss and all becasse they bought a few studios. I agree the asking price is too high for the storage card, so was it for the 360 HardDrive before Xbox brought out the 250Gb model
The fact that your calling legitimate criticism of xbox "hate" says a lot about your attitude towards these consoles my man.
Grow up and stop being a baby because your favorite console/megacorporation got some criticism on an internet forum.

People like you seem to forget the trick Xbox tried to play with 360 and custom casing for a basic HD and the eye-watering price it looked to charge for a 60GB Hard Drive
Funny how that was never an issue then
But it was an issue. I remember it quite well especially when people were able to upgrade the PS3's HDD to whatever they wanted but 360 owners were stuck with the shitty 20 GB HDD.

I'm hoping that the storage price drops after this console cycle ends for MS and people have moved on. I want to pick up some storage but not at these prices.

And yet, most people say the 360 is one of the best consoles ever. How many people said BITD the OG was the best because you never had to buy a memory card full stop?

Feck I remember people laughing when Saturn owners used to point out you didn't need to buy a memory card on day 1 to save games, unlike the PS1 ;) :P

Spare us on the legitimate criticism pile of tosh, that's for the birds. Most people who are on the hate bandwagon here haven't even bought an Xbox this gen or are hardly ones with hundreds of Xbox Series games because they're so in love with the system and can't stop getting games for it

I get the issue over the pricing of the 1TB model, but even if this 4TB model comes out, it's squarely for the real die-hard Xbox fan, because even most of the Xbox faithful aren't going to pay the high price of the 4TB model
. I would imagine myself this for the COD diehards and means more COD games will be coming to GamePass and you'll need a ton of space for them all.

Why are you mixing the two together? Just because people said it was one of the best consoles ever doesn't mean people weren't moaning or bitching about the price of the HDD or that it was limiting.

I will probably buy one or two. I bought the original 1 tb ones but have been waiting for a meaningful upgrade which 2 tb did not feel like it was worth it.

Funny thing is, on PS5 Pro I think my expansion storage is faster than my internal. Much faster. When I copy to it, copies take seconds. The main drive takes minutes and has a much slower data rate. I have also done some testing and noticed(to my eye) snappier performance and less popin when using the slot-in drive. I did go with a high end drive but it was much cheaper than this. Basically I install all my games on that expansion drive to take advantage of the faster percieved speeds. That said, expansion drives aren't really 100% necessary unless you have slower internet and even then careful planning can make it moot.

Yeah. The read speed on the internal and add on are blistering.

The write on the internal less so. I think it's to save on wear and tear to the memory cells. An add on drive. Has no such limitations though and copying to is much faster. Than when you just install to the consoles own ssd

It's not Terribad. But it's noticeable, if you move games between both ssd drives in a ps5
