Xbox Series sales fall 30% year on year

That must offer some relief but I'm sorry they couldn't do more for themselves. I'm rooting for MS to achieve a 60% drop next time, I'm sure they can do it if they really try.

Seriously though, MS is stuck in an impossible situation. They want users in their ecosystem because that is where they make the most money. Yet, Xbox users no longer spend money. So we are left in the awkward situation of convincing people not to buy the system, but to use the ecosystem anyway or don't leave it.

My son graduates from Purdue in the Spring, his mom graduated from IU, so he has that 'dog' in him as well. :messenger_beaming:
How did a Purdue grad snag a lovely lady from IU? ;)

Grats on your son btw, nothing makes a parent prouder than seeing our kids thrive

My son graduated IU a little over 10 years ago, can't believe how fast time does fly the older we get

I honestly dont, haha. I just don't like reading miss information. We can all be guilty of it, but just admit to the error and move on.

Well let me just say I'm glad you've finally come round to that way of thinking.

Shame it didn't start 10 years ago though, as I'm sure you'd see Microsoft in a different light if you had.

You sure about that?

"Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says Xbox Game Pass "set a new Q1 record for total revenue and average revenue per subscriber" and Microsoft "set new records for monthly active users in the quarter, as more players than ever play our games across devices and on the Xbox platform."

Honestly, I don't even care. I'm just calling you out. I legit like you as a member here, so its all harmless fun.

I get it though. Microsoft lies and Sony tells the truth.
You brought receipts?

When talking about gamepass? I hope not.

I am pretty sure he brought that article up for game pass numbers

DenchDeckard DenchDeckard can correct me if I too have miss information :)

Yes, from what I searched for this was specifically about Gamepass numbers. It was in their earnings call to investors. Maybe Satya is lying though, who knows.

You're correct, he was replying to Ethos_PS for his PS+ growth post.

Tangentially, GP is also consistently cited in pretty much all quarterly revenue reports as the thing that off-sets any drops from hardware etc.

This article is so fluffy though

Digital content and services revenue rose 8%, powered by Xbox Game Pass, Minecraft, and Call of Duty
No details on if all of these contributed to that growth and by what percentage.

they go on to mention
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella highlighted Minecraft's resurgence, noting a 75% surge in weekly active users following the April 4 premiere of The Minecraft Movie starring Jack Black.
Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, released late last year, continues to deliver both in sales and in-game revenue.
So at that point no mention of Game Pass, but then we get

Xbox Cloud Gaming surpassed 150 million hours of usage in Q1.
PC Game Pass revenue grew 45% year-over-year, showing that Microsoft's push beyond the console ecosystem is paying off.

... so hours played 🤷‍♂️ and PC specific % increase with no context of previous levels and if there was growth or drop in Xbox subs (I think I'm right in thinking PC is cheaper than XBox Gamepass). Like always with Microsoft, what they don't tell you is probably more imortant than what they do disclose.

So saying...
"set a new Q1 record for total revenue and average revenue per subscriber"
could mean that effectively that Gamepass has flatlines YoY with only marginal increases in overall revenue.

I mean you can't deny they PR stunts are 99 on Metacritic.

Unlike when Sony said they would not release sequels to their biggest franchises during the next fiscal year, people somehow understood that they won't be releasing any 1st party game. That's pretty bad PR.

Best first party output this gen.

Along with GTA6 I think Microsoft's games are going to help drive PlayStation sales over the rest of the generation.

There's a subset of PS5 owners who are nostalgic for Halo and Gears from the 360 days.

Good games from these franchises will do well on Sony's console.

There's already a dedicated circana thread.

Be honest with us.

What causes you to do this? Daddy Phil taking care of his baby boy?

I can't believe they're actually trying again next generation. Or have those plans already been flushed down the shitter?

Absolutely, Sony seems to have shit the bed with releases so hopefully MS can get a solid title out each QTR or so to help drive engagement on PS5 outside of the core Fortnites / Roblox / COD/ Madden / MLB etc games.

MS has clearly failed as a platform owner but as a third party dev they are killing it, you just have to look at the charts.

Why do stores still not have Series X in stock?

Did no one ask Phil during the GP profitable, Layoffs and XBox is Everywhere party?

Nice, I lived in Covington for 6 months in a corn field. Working for McLane Midwest right outside of Danville, Ill.

I was homeless growing up and got taken from the parental advisors I was born to. Ran at 15 from a home, ended up in Indiana a few years later. Got my job but no one would rent to me. Beautiful little town and a great little state.

Why would any fan trust them after all the crap that's happened. Im not trying to tell people what to do with their time and money, im just tired of the Satya Spencer Circus and wonder what others think
Thats the big question who will buy it?

Not sure trust is an issue when buying a console as its not like they will shut it off, its just is there a big enough of a market?

They think so, I am not so sure

2024 Q1:
  • Xbox Game Pass Core - $5.00/month (cheapest option with annual cost of $59.99)
  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate - $16.99/month
  • PC Game Pass - $9.99/month

2025 Q1:
  • Xbox Game Pass Core - $8.33/month (cheapest option with quarterly cost of $24.99, which comes out to $99.96/year)
  • Xbox Game Pass Standard - $14.99/month
  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate - $19.99/month
  • PC Game Pass - $11.99/month

To break this down further:
  • Xbox Game Pass Core - 66.6% price increase, and stopped including first party titles on release date.
  • Xbox Game Pass Standard - New tier priced much higher than the base tier, and anyone who still wanted first-party titles on release date had to move up to this tier. Basically a 199.8% price increase from the previous quarter if you're comparing Xbox Game Pass Core in 2024 to Xbox Game Pass Standard in 2025 (which makes the most sense as these plans are identical in all but name and price).
  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate - 17.66% price increase.
  • PC Game Pass - 20.02% price increase

These price changes took effect in September of 2024. Bragging about record Q1 revenue in 2025 (up 5% from Q1 of 2024) after these price increases is a weird flex, but you do you.
