Xbox Series X is $339 on BestBuy via the BestBuy app’s Drops

Gotta be flying off the shelves at 339, surely. That's an insane price for the hardware.
the drop still has 57% inventory left so I guess it depends just how much they allocated for it? doesn't look like it's going to sell out though (Best Buy says the drops are available from 10a-5p CT so the sale ends in <30 minutes)

I'm actually shocked it's not sold out. I wonder how many they had. Wonder if they'll re run it tomorrow lol

In store only? Seeing it as $350 in their app.

Walmart had the S for $250 or did and Costco apparently in store only is selling for $150 supposedly.
Costco thing was prob some manager discretion clearance it was def ymmv and not all costco stores. Series s at $250 is a much more reasonable discount since 299 is the reg price which about 15%. The series x is getting like a 30% discount.

Either way it's crazy that one can get a series x for not much for than a 512 series s and the same price as the 1tb series s.

Verizon also has a deal now where you can get a free series x, 200 amazon gc and 100 verizon gc for signing up to fios.

I saw that this morning. I started to buy one but then I realized I could already play all the games on my PC.
This is exactly why Sony is not about to start putting their exclusives on PC day one. It would completely undercut their own hardware sales.

Will never understand how some people keep saying Sony needs to release on PC day and date like MS.

May be location dependent but I can do local pickup, same day Walmart delivery or shipping.

Dumping: Dumping, in economics, is a form of predatory pricing, especially in the context of international trade. It occurs when manufacturers export a product to another country at a price below the normal price with an injuring effect. The objective of dumping is to increase market share in a foreign market by driving out competition and thereby create a monopoly situation where the exporter will be able to unilaterally dictate price and quality of the product.

Liquidation: Liquidation generally refers to the process of selling off a company's inventory, typically at a big discount, to generate cash. In most cases, a liquidation sale is a precursor to a business closing. Once all the assets have been sold, the business is shut down.

Pick one.

Neither of those is applicable

Phil admitted that the Series S and X was losing $100 and $200 per console in 2022. We have reasons to believe the Series X was the one losing $100 per console at a MSRP of $500. Now it's $340 with no node shrink.

Sony: I'll just just power up and grow stronger the more money MS spends instead

Your 4090 doesn't do quick resume. The killer app for the holidays. Pause that game.

Yeah I really wasn't expecting that to be as good as it is... hopefully ms can port it to Windows eventually

Depends on your desire to see the platform continue.

That's too much to worry about long term, just enjoy what we've got now.

I really don't mind when a trillion dollar corporation is willing to foot the bill and let gamers get solid hardware at a great price.

Waiting on the 150 series s from bestbuy I'm surprised the X didn't sell out at that price
It's a week before Christmas already, most people who were going to buy a game console for Christmas have already bought it. This really smells of post-Christmas fire sales to clear unsold holiday stock but a week before instead of after.

Since these Series X still didn't sell out at $350, maybe we'll get $300 or even $250 after Christmas. Series S already was $150 at Costco, no idea if we might see $100 after Christmas. At $100, I'll impulse buy an S just to use it as a streaming box, fuck playing games on it.

You probably would have enjoyed the free concert as the Titanic was sinking too.

ok that's too deep

Hard pass. No reason to have an Xbox if you have a capable PC.

It's actually quite nice for a second room where you don't have a gaming desk/pc set up , it all syncs up nicely too

What is a streaming box? Most TVs already have all the streaming services baked in...

Yeah, I could just move the PS4 Pro upstairs and connect it to the old TV in the bedroom which is too old to have that stuff built in. The PS5 is downstairs anyways, I don't really need a PS5 and a PS4 Pro sitting side by side. Also, it turns out that downstairs I actually never use the TV's built-in apps because I have a home theater setup so I actually stream downstairs using the PS5.

Realistically I don't need a Series S even at $100, so maybe you're right. I won't buy one until MS gives them away for free or bundles them with a year of Gamepass.

It sounds like you are pretty set

Like PS1 being sold for 299 in North America despite being 349/399 in Japan? Or the PS2 being the cheapest DVD player in the market to the point Sony was just at the break even in the first two years due to its costs? Or the PS3 being undersold by 200 USD as they had overspent on its hardware? Or the Gamecube at 99 just two years after its release?

Rock solid framerates on games that weren't ported so well and a few others that were not ported at all. As well as avoiding extra launchers. It is why I acquired Dead or Alive 6 and GTA IV on Series S despite owning Steam versions.

Like what?

And extra launchers take seconds to open and hardly use any storage space.

It was $399.
Was this shit not selling well enough even at that price? :messenger_grimmacing_
What will they do next year?
Phil needs to start writing his notes for that meeting with satya. Cause 2027 is looking like 2024.

I'm starting to fear that HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 is right and Xbox will be stupid enough to release their new console in 2025 now. And just blow up their current gen console.
No way, they release a new console. Riding out this gen and producing revenue from the current base of Series owners would make more sense. They might have a solid 2024 lineup of games which could help.

But the idea that they can sell a new console in there current state is insane thinking, no one trust the quality of games Xbox releases and that is one of the main issues they have to address this gen before they have any hope of making a new console.

It's interesting as to the fire sale of the series x and nothing of such for the series s. Maybe a new revision coming out is the only logical thing I can think of. Oh well consumers win getting a hell of a system for cheap.

Mind naming those games and I can switch in and out of games faster on the PC even with the extra launchers.

Regarding DOA6. Can you do this on the Series S/X?

Regarding GTA IV. Can you do this on the Series S/X?

Pretty much. The problem isn't the hardware. They can't pull a 360 again if this theoretical console is using AMD hardware. PS6 will just come along and curb stomp it (due to it having newer AMD hardware). Unless they plan on sticking a higher end Nvidia GPU in there (doubt that would help sales), it's best for them to just ride out this gen like you said and try to fix the software quality problem.

In the UK, theres places like Amazon selling it for £349 now. This is bonkers pricing and an amazing deal for anyone wanting to play console games. I do think theyve potentially forced themselves to have to be at this price. I wonder if they are testing the waters to see if the price works.

No the Series S does not do perv mods or $1500 worth of raytracing on a modded new iteration in a franchise. What it does is make the original games run flawlessly. If you watched the DoA 6 footage at 60 fps you would see that things get drawn too fast on PC and it constantly has to pause for the game logic to catch up. It is horrendous. It runs at 60 fps on Series S locked with no such abrupt hangups. If you also looked at the GTA V footage carefully you would see that when the car speed exceed 30 MPH or camera turns there is stuttering. Also, the face textures are reminiscent of Leatherface since the mods reuse older assets and and the asset streaming has trouble with pop in likely for the same reason. In contrast the Series S can draw the world as fast as you can zoom through it in your car in GTA IV and it stays at a locked 60fps no matter how much the camera is rotated. It is a matter of fidelity vs performance and for me performance is considerably more important.

So, outside of some old games, you are mostly set with a capable PC.
Probably. However, the performance and audio fidelity of some Series S ports put emulation to shame at a fraction of the cost.

PC has both fidelity and performance covered. Using that same idea, what about console games that don't run flawlessly? Or would never see the 120+ fps of their PC counterparts?

Cherry picking is just that.

NeverYouMind NeverYouMind

Really? What are those games?
