Xbox Series X is $339 on BestBuy via the BestBuy app’s Drops

I dunno if people are trolling or haters in general. $350 to play games at the performance a series x provides is a good deal.

If it don't provide value to you move on. Theres plenty of people it can provide value to at $350.

When Nintendo slashed the price of the 3DS not long around launch, they did a ambassador program to make the previous buyers happy. This is not the same case, but it shows that sometimes there is consequences to a price cut.

The system is 3 years old though?

I guess this deal is over and it was only live for a day?

It was not a critic. And yes, this is not the same circumstances .Just that sometimes being cheap has consequences. If it was a problem for Nintendo, it can happen for Xbox too. Is a Series X at 350 a good price? Of course. But this when they launched a 350 Series S not long ago raise some questions. Some people in this thread and others, said that people will wait until Xbox have those discounts before buying, some say that they are "doomed" because of it. Someone compared it to dumping or liquidation. You can dismiss all of that, I said it just for the sake of showing that there is a lot of opinions about this move from Xbox.
I think that making this deal after Black Friday will leave some people unhappy. But that it is a good deal, and that the few people that got it will be very happy with it. And we got a few others deals on Costco for the S, and Wallmart, Amazon and a few others retailers for the X. This is probably why people get more and more extreme in those thread. One deal is normal, many get suspicious.

I'll just leave this here.

The video itself states that the methodology for input lag testing consoles and PC are not the same with different cables used as inputs. Beyond that it is known that higher resolutions and HDR on Series consoles introduces input lag. Even so, it is somehow a frame ahead of PS5 as of this test (probably prior to lag reduction updates) and PC version framepacing is still unbearably horrid to this day. Having played it recently I can honestly say the input lag is better than Tekken Tag 2, though not quite on the level of Tekken 6.

On one hand, it seems like we've entered weird territory when ~$350, three years into a hardware cycle, seems like a fire sale. On the other hand, the rapidity of the drop from the $449 Diablo IV SKU to $349, and all the discounts on the base SKU for $349 (and $339 in this case) gives me the impression that their sales figures over Black Friday to Cyber Monday must have been atrocious. I'm glad I got in on the $349 Diablo IV bundle, still seems like the best deal so far. But I can't really seem them accomplishing much with even a "standard" price drop to $399, after a full month of people paying $50 less on the unit.

Maybe this will lead to better launch MSRP's in 2027/2028, at least from Microsoft. We are three years into this cycle, and the combined price for buying a PS5 and XSX at the routinely available prices is still $849. One year of Game Pass Ultimate and the best version of PS+ is $363 before tax. I think the market has completely rejected this, and PS5 won over the people who stick to one console every cycle. If the last cycle was the wrong to lose because of the migration to digital, than this hardware cycle was the wrong time to try to sell people on a second console with what the typical hardware and subscription pricing has been.
Oh man this had me thinkin. How many folks are doing returns for those $449 bundles since it's at least a hundred dollars and returns last sometime in January?

You buy one copy and download one copy.
Double down on pirating I see. If you don't own a Switch, you can't be legally playing Switch games. Let's be honest here, nobody is buying Switch games without a Switch and playing it on their PCs.

Maybe you should sell that series s and actually buy a Switch for the imaginary Switch games you have.

It's still $350 at Walmart in store too just confirmed although I got kind of boned temporarily since I got my Series S for $250 online and they take like 2-3 weeks to refund because of their marketplace. Oh well dads got a new bluray player and won't run out of storage :) Plenty left too and like 1 PS5.

I would not play on that awful Switch hardware if they payed me. It has worse performance in games than the Wii.

Best Buy is doing $350 again. The fun part, at the top of the page they are advertising the $100 discount instead of the $150. It looks like an obsolete mess. I don't know what is going on.

Looks right to me.

Or you know traditional discounts 3 years into the gen?

Here is the PS4 slim for $250 in Holiday 2016. With a free Uncharted 4 game, free ratchet and TLOU remaster. 3 free games. $150 off from the MSRP at launch. XSX is $160 off from the MSRP at launch and comes with no free games. Let alone two of their biggest free games of the year like Uncharted 4 and Ratchet remake back in 2016.
Master class job at calling out the double standard. Some real hypocrisy and fuckery going on in this thread.
On topic: might just have to pick one of these up for backwards compatibility. I have a 7950x3D and 4090 rig so I can play anything modern that Xbox would have but the ability to play classic game code at 4k with no emulation flaws is huge. These boxes are basically worth it just for that.

I'll be doing the same thing early next year with my PS5 and Switch in anticipation of new hardware. Will be flying solo PC for a while.
With sony progressively shortening their PC launch window... I think PC is the way to go for the next gen ... I dont even think Ill get the Pro anymore. The time to say goodbye to consoles is coming fast for me.

Presumably anyone that bought a non bundle at >$350 during Black Friday week could return and rebuy at $350.

Given the recently leaked PC sales of first party releases I'm guessing they aren't going to be pushing PC sales much going forward.

I like how people are pretending this gen hasn't been different what with a worldwide pandemic and also massive inflation

Both Sony and Microsoft have had significant sales on their hardware within the third year of the consoles lifespan. This entire year has seen the ps5 in stock, its about time we get to some good old fashioned sales going on and end users being able to buy hardware at a decent price, after we've been ripped off by scalpsrs for two years straight!

This is nothing but a good thing!

Jesus Christ dude. How about Christmas sale lol. Sell the console cheap and make it back on gamepass.
Yes, it's just a xmas sale.
Right after one of the worst November's a video game manufacturer has ever had in terms of sales.
Just like when Microsoft introduced backwards compatibility and gamepass it was because of all their love for video game fans, not because sony was stomping them into the ground and they desperately need some positive talking points for the xbox right? ? ?

I mean to be fair the original digital edition was $399 since launch, the disc edition however? I don't recall it going that low except for that incredibly brief Target deal at BF

If you buy a PS5 just before the PS5 Pro reveal, will you go and return it? Returns need the case to not be open I think. But it was not a blame on Xbox. Just my feeling about it. In my country selling at a loss like this in a fire sales is forbidden by law outside of 2 months each year. One in winter, one in the end of spring. So being wrong about when to buy something means being sure of not being able not find the deal again for a few months at least.

Crazy deals on these consoles. Just paid $149.99 for a Series S at Costco. Then $349.99 with $210 of Amazon gift cards saved up for this year. Overall, I made out pretty good.

I can't be 100% certain, but I think that in terms of cost per frame there is nothing that comes close to the xsx at $350.

Maybe a used PC with a 2070 or maybe a 5700xt, but I dunno, that's far fetched.

It's high quality packaging too, it's not like you are getting some cheap plastic box with horrible cooling, etc.

Well, I really don't think you could do much better unless it was all gift cards..

I wish I had a costco near me with that deal. My local Costco still has it for reg price. I traded my series s for a ps5 slim not too long ago when gs was offering those crazy trade in values. I need another for when I go traveling its amazing how compact that machine is.

So far I'm up to 3 series x and 2 ps5 smh. Surprised the wife hasn't killed me yet.

Series X for $350 for less is an insane deal. MS fucked up not announcing this for BF with big marketing and just letting retailers do these desperation deals in the wee hours of the holiday.

Got mine at Target last week, it really is a decent system now that they un-fucked the UI and the library provides by gamepass is unrivaled. I'm actually cancelling PS+ for next year and will just play multiplayer stuff on Xbox/PC.

True for Sony and Nintendo, but both have made some moves on mobile that will have to pay off at some point. Microsoft will have all of 2024 to show us what they want for the Xbox brand. I think that they will push for a strong E3 presentation, with games like Hellblade 2 and COD front and center. And the sooner they talk of next gen, the sooner we will know that they consider the Series S/X dead if there is a early next gen. So they will be the first to show something, with will limit theirs options.
I am not sure that they will buy Steam. I can see the benefits, but Steam is good because it is not Microsoft. With battle.net they will already have another storefront to integrate to Gamepass and Xbox servers. And will they even be autorized to do so? I know that Valve is private, but Microsoft will have to pay a stupid sum to make Gabe sell to them. This should anger some regulators.
For your last point. I think that the Xbox One disastrous launch will forever force them to go head to head again. If they let Sony have a better console, they know that they will face a potential 100 millions+ console with better specs, and that would mean a lot of problems, be it in marketing, third party relations, difficulty to make deals for Gamepass... They lived through that last gen, and probably said never again. 399$ is a sweet spot. And with a great launch lineup, it could work for Xbox. But they will need to find a way to make the transition fast, or by the time Gamepass have enough people on the next gen system, and that will take 2 or more years, Sony will have a PS6 out and if they want a 500$ console, will have some advantages that will make marketing hard for Xbox. At the same time, if Sony does a 400$ PS6, and Xbox go for a 500$ console, they will risk to be outpriced if the market follow Sony because of the huge PS5 market. PC and consoles are not the same market, so the people that want a Playstation will want it as long as there is enough hype, and Sony is good for that. Can Xbox risk being wrong for what the next gen price should be? Or better to have a costly console, and eat the cost if needed? I think that they will prefer having the best console, as the Series X marketing, and the One X before shows. But maybe this time they will not rush and think carefully before moving. The Swicth 2 impact on the market will be telling for all consoles manufacturers I think, and what price will they choose may give us some clues to what is the best mass market price for a console.

Good points. I bring up Valve/Steam because despite having the Windows Store and absorbing Battle.net, they have still been putting all of their games on there. Rough analogy - a company with money will buy a building outright if they can afford it, rather than paying rent in perpetuity. Steam is the digital equivalent of that building. You are correct to point out that Valve would need to consent to the sale to begin with. I'm not aware of any significant outside investment Valve (which is in contrast to Epic Games) so they get to make their own decisions on everything.

Another potential sticking point: would Microsoft want to buy the hardware division within Valve? MS is already well capable of building a Deck-esque device that could run Steam, and VR still doesn't seem to going mainstream.

Agreed. I feel like if this was a planned price drop, they would've announced it early, or at the very least, had it available for all of Black Friday + Cyber Week.

The fact that it came late and relatively unadvertised tells me that they weren't moving units and needed to make a dramatic move to push sales through the holidays.

Going to be interesting to see if/how they manage to move units at a decent tick looking forward. They have an uphill battle ahead of them.

Yup, the lack of marketing from MS on some of the more generous deals, combine with it happening one week after Black Friday gives me the impression that these were retailer initiated sales.

Oh man this had me thinkin. How many folks are doing returns for those $449 bundles since it's at least a hundred dollars and returns last sometime in January?

I would imagine plenty of people will be doing just that. Walmart and Best Buy accept returns well into January for items purchased on or after Black Friday. I once had to get Best Buy to retroactively price match their own Amazon storefront price on a Pioneer TV. Fortunately, they agreed returning the item and buying it again would be needlessly time consuming.

Despite how people laud PC + 'Other Systems' as the superior combo, I think PC+Xbox is more useful to me for the GP Ultimate crossover usage, since I maxed my sub to 3yrs before the recent switch in conversion ratio. Series S|X is a nice, simple way to access GP for usage on the family bigscreen TV compared to having another PC hooked up. I'm letting my PS+ expire, too. I just don't use the PS5 enough with other options(PC, Deck, GP/Xbox). I'm really only hanging on to the PS5 at this point for FFXVI Rising Tide and Wolverine.

Microsoft is fine. Azure will keep them profitable for forseeable future. I don't know where the notion came from that you have to be number 1 to make a profit came from. Gamepass, it was introduced to get gamers use to digital only games that you will never own. As for Sony, they are quickly becoming the most anti-consumer videogame company of all-time. DRM in their DVD drives, trying to kill trade ins/resale of games, talking about making games $80-100 a piece, killing series off that don't have ridiculously high metacritic scores, and woke BS in literally every game they release.
A huge shame since they were such an amazing company under Kaz's leadership.

They are kind of known for pivoting on a whim or trying to set industry precedents. Looks like they may be trying to start a new gen early because the x was their "pro" and it wasn't enough to outperform PS5 in multiplat. They are afforded these opportunities because xbox is owned by microsoft.

Series X is down to $499 CAD. Might buy one for my 5 year old as its easier to jump on and play than the PC.

Part of the problem with your analogy is that it leaves out a part of why Microsoft would want to buy Valve. The bad perception that the public have of their storefront, and the bad taste left by initiatives like Games for Windows live and whatever they tried to do with UWP. It only make Valve even more attractive to them, but would not change the core problem. I don't think that Valve hardware division would be a problem for Microsoft. They would look at what obligations they still have and decide to continue as planned or not. And Valve could make conditions to get it to not be stopped for a time. But it shows that the two companies have drastically different views on the market. I can't see Microsoft continue the VR push that Valve did. And Gamepass is in total contradiction with Steam business model.

So what you're saying is, competition is a good thing and allows customers to get a good deal and awesome features?

Ye it's quite nice..the way they have the Xbox/pc integration now is the two almost act as one system anyway. Some games are obviously much better on PC, others on the box, and some are good on both.

For example someone here mentioned vampire survivors, and man I've been missing out on that, so now I play a game here and there when I'm working on my PC and then I can do the same on the couch.. same with Forza Motorsport.

In the UK, theres places like Amazon selling it for £349 now. This is bonkers pricing and an amazing deal for anyone wanting to play console games. I do think theyve potentially forced themselves to have to be at this price. I wonder if they are testing the waters to see if the price works.
Thing is where do they go from $350/£350/€350? Nobody is going to go back and buy XSX for $400+ come January.

While the intention is to probably drive Q4 sales (and it is a great deal if you don't have a PC), this will essentially ensure this is going to be a mental price barrier for customers.

That said, it's not like MS can't afford the subsidies. Which is also why I think that allowing companies like MS complete vertical integration and relying on parent company cash to subsidize XBOX is a bad idea. It completely skews any sort of market forces.

I do, I physically own a Switch and purchase all my Switch games. But recently I've found it far superior to emulate them on my PC and stream them to my Deck via Sunshine/Moonlight.

I'm still waiting on your receipts about the ps5 being $399 this year outside of black friday.
PS5 was around €420-430 in Europe earlier in the year for the OG disk model and that included VAT.

Not quite the same but Sony was pushing PS5 hard for a while over the summer and early fall in EU. Don't remember same deals in NA though. Think lowest "normal" price was $450 for OG Disk PS5 with Spiderman 2 for a bit.

Select 6 months, then Game.co.uk I'm sure Smyths was doing it cheaper as well. Game is the biggest rip off in UK.

Those both sound absolutely horrible. Dang, that's awful. Hopefully they're back to full price soon.

Agreed. Some parents out there on a tight budget might actually be able to surprise their child with a current gen system for Christmas. What's even worse is that some of them may decide to get Game Pass and the whole family suddenly has a huge selection of games to enjoy.

Terrible situation.
