Xbox Series X will have dedicated audio hardware-acceleration.

Attendees will dive deep into the audio design pipeline (Project Acoustics) and the relationship to dedicated hardware-acceleration on newer generation Xbox consoles.

Turning any pair of headphones into a multi-dimensional gateway is always welcomed. It enhances the experience especially in competitive online games.

Everyone putting in the work in key area's to push the game forward <3

Definitely. I'm always a bit frustrated my mate doesn't use proper headphones in Apex, when it has such a huge influence on the game

I fucking LOVE it when sound gets the attention it deserves. When Sony were talking about this I found t a bit odd Xbox didn't have something to compete with it, so it's good to see this is there as well. Expected, but good news.

Now if only that damn controller can get some new adjustments like the PS5 one.

Current Xbox has Dolby Atmos

Are not so much the games with good sound system...never tried Apex but the only One i have found Is r6 siege that you can determinate the position with the footsteps even with tv speakers

Well if it's not then it will depend on the quality of your audio setup.

Most people don't use anything other than their substandard TV speakers and don't know any better.
True. Also I'm not going to spend lots of money on a surround system when most of the time I'm in a party with my mates while having my headset on. Waste of money for me

Edit: I do have one though in my living room for all the sports, movies and all that.

Like movies, sound is just as important as visuals. I have the proper headphones. Just hoping MS allows for Bluetooth head sets next gen. If they don't, fuck them! I'm going GameCube.

Remember when PCs had Sound Cards?

This thread just reminded me of it. It was like a mind trip back to the 90's.

All ray-tracing tech can be applied to audio; it's the same calculations.. so "hardware RT" = "hardware RT audio".

Audio is such an underappreciated aspect of videogame design. Good move, Microsoft.
Not true. There's tons of YouTube channels that have OSTs, there's live shows like Video Games Live and orchestras all over the world, essays, reports, journalistic articles about gaming music... One can argue about "caring" in hardware related stuff, but Audio in gaming is not even close to underappreciated

Appreciated by the niche of fans, sure, but it is an afterthought in most game coverage by the media and is rarely showcased as a selling point for new videogame releases.

And when companies do include audio tech -- like the PS2's optical audio port -- it often goes unnoticed.

It's because such a small percentage of people can take advantage of it. Everyone has an HDTV to hook their console to, not everyone has a surround sound setup or a nice pair of headphones. Plus we've had really good multi-channel audio in games for a couple decades.

I hope this means the console itself will have an amplified 3.5mm audio jack so that I can use my high end headphones directly.

Good luck with that. High impedance headphones get no love unless you have dedicated amp/dac or recent motherboards in the past few years. Otherwise, it's just wishful thinking sadly. Wish more manufacturers would put audio more in the Frontline of things.

Good for those looking to pick up an Xbox Series X.

Honestly looks like its all going to come down to the games and services this time around.

If you have high end headphones, surely you also have a headphone amp?

OT: is this any different to the old audigy and x-fi cards I used to have back in the day?

Am I the only one who doesn't like playing vidya with headphones? Do young people just have shit attached to their ear nonstop? Are they all deaf?

I'll be happy to have more Atmos content. Native Atmos is amazing. Upscaled is nice but not super accurate.

Ehh, you're only talking about music. Game AUDIO is so much more. By only talking about music you essentially proved his point that game audio is underappreciated.
