Xbox2 ~ Xbox Next as early as Summer 2005?

Make no mistake -- the Master System is defined by its superior hardware. Imagine if it was NES that got the superior ports... how do you think the Master System would have done in that case?
Yeah, things look real bad for Genesis. ;)

Technical features and demos, but they won't show the system itself or any 1st/2nd party games. That's the plan so far, it could change in 2 months of course.

yeah man only tech demo, but all game and the system will be at e3!!! :D

IMO, the fact that Revolution is more or less completely omitted from discussions of the next generation by most people (both in the development community and the media) is worrisome. Not flat-out alarming, since it is still early yet, but worrisome all the same

PSP was like that this time (even E3) last year. Now look at it - possibly the biggest launch line up in the West, for any console. Just because it isn't known doesn't mean it lacks support.

And I thought Revolution was supposed to be showing at E3? Given Nintendo's preference for not showing things until nearly ready, I'd expect them to be launching way before the end of 2006. Are your timings based on anything other than speculation?

As for Xbox, its fucked if it launches early, its fucked if it launches late. *all* they had this time round was technology, and they won't have that this time (they are already playing it down). I fully expect Sony to steal the main elements of live, and even on xbox they had very low penetration of Live - small enough to be considered hardcore gamers only. MS will sell to them anyway, its the massmarket that counts, and if MS don't have *several* key advantages, they stand to lose big time. At the moment, I don't see them having any major advantages at all.

They are based on both rumblings throughout the dev. community as well as comments from Nintendo executives themselves (i.e., Iwata commenting that the Revolution would launch around the same time as the PS3). I don't believe the Revolution will debut before 2006.

Well as far as we all know it's 10 Mbytes of EDRAM, unless it's been changed recently.
Do you really feel 256 Mbytes is enough for textures/models/sounds/game data ? With games all designed around 720p we will require much more detailed textures than before.

According to MS, said memory sizes are more than enough for 720P. Don't yell at me, MS wants to actually make money off this thing.

Don't forget, Nintendo's always late too.

-Super Famicom/SNES was originally on track for a 1989 launch
-Nintendo 64 was originally on track for a 1995 launch
-Game Boy Advance was originally on track for a 1999 launch
-GameCube was originally on track for a 2000 launch

...Nintendo DS is like the first thing they've gotten out on time since the 1980s. :/

It all comes down to Rare, but that was a given.

Is it true that Xb2 has an internal video scaler? If so, then any memory size would be more than enough for 720p, or even 1080p if the scaler supported it ;)

"And, at less than 20 million consoles sold worldwide, the system isn't yet being bought by "Mister ordinary consumer" who knows nothing about the hardware's advantages over other competing consoles."

Oh but it is, I've seen it with my own eyes. In fact, the XBox sitting in the living room right now isn't mine, it was bought by an I-know-nothing-about-games guy that just saw 4 controller ports and thought of NHL games.

He has yet to buy a third and 4th controller btw :p

PS: imagine, he's so novice to videogame he didn't even have a clue about how to hook the thing up.

Yeah, that too -- even if Nintendo said 2005, it could very well be 2006.

Although it seems like just lately they've been more intent on nailing down deadlines and sticking with them (you mentioned the DS, but I'm also thinking of most of GC's major software releases). Whether this has affected the quality of their output or not, I'm not sure, but I suppose that's for another topic.

Don't forget that the Genesis was still considered to be a superior sports gaming console; coincidentally, it only did well in the territories where such a thing mattered.

But I see your point :)
