XCOM 2 is a Masterpiece

the biggest issue I remember is that enemies would RNG in the fog of war and you can casually walk into a squad without cover and get wiped. Constantly

One needs to know how to maneuver using stealth to get the best first strike on the enemy. Once stealth is removed, carefully placing your soldiers into spots that will not trigger new enemies is very important to staying ahead of the game. One careless enemy activation when you're not prepared could ruin a mission.

Once you know how to move through a map and minimize the bad RNG, the game is not that bad to manage. It's the knowledge barrier and knowing what to do in what situation that separates the beginners from the experts at this game.

Easily in my top 5 fave games of all time, GOATed indeed. I'm still banging my head up against (War of the Chosen) Legend difficulty with Ironman enabled and no helpers; an absolute nightmare, started over like 100 times. But, Veteran and below is gigachad video game status. It's a crime that we haven't gotten a proper XCOM 3 yet.

Amazing game but one negative is they really jumped the shark with alot of the enemy designs. Wish they stuck to the classic UFO lore style.
I really hate the "western jank" art design in general. Most of them are just generic and over designed.

Is there a bathroom nearby where I can vomit?

🤢

Those games never appealed to me, and I'm not interested in their stories either.

Mutant Year Zero; the characters on the cover don't make me want to play them.

Anyone know what the X-COM 2 iOS/iPad version is like? I already have it on PC but interested in a potential game or two via mobile device thingy while on the go.

absolutely love xcom2
the calm before the storm in the dropship... moving your squad in formation to cover all angles... sending a lone teammate up ahead of the team as bait to draw out enemies... having an elevated sniper watch everything... retreating to lure enemies into a tactical trap... color-coding my team's clothes based on class... getting emotional when it all fails miserably and my best soldiers die in a single mission...

love the game
but the highest difficult is brutal. dont know how anyone beats it.

One of the coolest and most satisfying things in XCOM 2 is to set a gigantic web of intricate overwatch positions, suppressive fire cones, etc while in stealth and then just send your "samurai shotgunner" to strike that single advent soldier...

You can clean maps in a single turn if you do that correctly.

Overwatch has saved me countless times lol. Its a great skill

I've got 327 hours in XCOM2--my most-played game on Steam. If I were stuck on a desert island, it would be my go-to.

Last year, I went through a two-monthlong bender of playing XCOM 1, XCOM 1 Enemy Within, XCOM 2, then got all the DLCs for XCOM 1 & 2, and played 1 then 2 again, and then did an XCOM 2 Commander Ironman run for the first time.

Always learning new things and optimizing. And eventually, I'll play it again because I want to get 100% achievements.

An XCOM 3 would be nice, but I still haven't wrung everything I can out of XCOM 2/WOTC/DLC.

They're the full-fat version, and can even include War of the Chosen and all DLC packs. Apparently, it runs even better on iPads compared to PS4 and Switch in times of load times lol

For controls, it's touchscreen only. I'm not a fan of touchscreen, but I read some people actually prefer it for XCOM 2 compared to controller. Tap to select soldiers/enemies; pinch to zoom, swipe to pan; UI is apparently intuitive. Some finickyness, but then again, I still occasionally misclick after 100s of hours with the games on PC

One callout is that it drains the battery somewhat quickly. Makes sense, considering XCOM 2 was crashing my PC due to high CPU usage; granted my PSU was dying but this was the one game that actually alerted me to that problem since it was powering off my comp consistently.

Another callout is the large file size, and some people get crashes/slowdowns, but Apple might give a refund if that happens and you make a case for it.

I think i got it free on epic store, tried once and when this meme happened, i decided it wasn't for me.

But i'm also not a fan of the genre so there is that.

Only "similar" games that i liked are vandal hearts 2 and mutant year one.
These two individuals need an hour long lecture on personal space ethics.

It's k.

I think the additional complexity actually brought it down. Especially getting around the globe was really tedious and frankly, kind of stupid. Also, the story was really convoluted and just less interesting than the first.

Are you activating the controller in the settings menu from keyboard to controller? Otherwise controls will be very uncomfortable
Pretty sure I did. You play on steamdeck? I probably tried the top rated community layout. I think the first game intrigued me more than the second and I'd like to give it another shot

I had Steamdeck at one point but sold it but never tried it there. The game has native controller support so you dont really need to do anything other than disable steam imput in the games properties, and then when you launch the game, turning on controller in settings, basically changing it. Then it will work fine and will play like in consoles

I brought it. It's recommended to play it with the dlc? Is it better than the base game alone for the first playthrough?
It's better by a LANDSLIDE with the DLCs.
War of the Chosen is basically mandatory.
The only reason to play without it would be if you were absolutely confident of wanting to play the whole thing more than once (maybe to compare how much of an improvement is), otherwise you are basically playing a crippled version of the game without a lot of the improved features that made it a modern classic.
