If the game is only playable with a mouse and keyboard, then that is a good reason not to have standard controller support. Just because it is an XCOM game and turn based does not mean that it must be exactly the same as the previous version. It entirely depends on what they have done in this new version. For all we know they are using some sort of quick time limit per turn rather than movement and action restriction and targeting the esports scene for multiplayer - who knows
There is a eurogamer video I watched that says Jake Solomon went straight on to this after EU and wasn't involved with EW. That would make a bit of sense with being ready by the end of the year. Civ BE had this same kind of surprise factor to how quick they said it would launch, so it could just be what works out for Firaxis

I think we get a shift in the thought process of Publishers.
PC/Steam currently has the "Indie-Problem" (no problem for consumers, but for developers) As in, that there are so many Indie releases, that you have to catch the lightning in the bottle to be successfull. A different scenario than 3 to 5 years ago. Were publishing on steam would mean you got free money.
On Consoles: If your indie game is good and you got a Platform-Holder deal, you will not swim in money, but will have a massive PR and recognition boost. That would mean better sales overall on all Platforms.
Now with big publishers:
On Consoles or with Multiplatform releases, you have to fight the Triple A and Quattro A Industry. Releasing a game in November could be suicide if you dont want to take tens or hundreds of million Dollar in the hand.
But going PC Exclusive? Tending to the strength of the platform? KNOWING your niche Audience (meaning millions of niche gamers) You can survive off of this AND make enough money. All those A and AA Publishers know where there strength and Niche Audience lies. And even AAA Publishers (Take2) with AA Games have the Room to get Millions of Sales instead of being a footnote on consoles.
Paradox would probably have gone bankrupt going Consoles.

I'd say Jagged Alliance is doing ok on that front.
Come now, those tepid relics don't count. And as a fellow who actually defends the BiA and Crossfire games to an extent, I'm just morose that X-Com gets the successful reboot and Sirtech's absolute masterpiece in JA2 simply cannot be replicated.
People getting jazzed about XCOM 2 being centred around a guerrilla campaign and who have not played JA2 should do themselves a favour in the interim.
AFAICT the likely plot is:
- world is 'wrecked' by the alien invasion of the XCOM game, governments/cities fall apart, XCOM gets closed down, almost a post-apocalyptic mess etc.
- Advent appear and start making utopian, futuristic cities, curing disease, extending life... people flock to those cities.
The game starts when people realise Advent = aliens, and XCOM is re-created to save the day.
But I haven't seen anything official beyond the original site and the trailers.

I really like the premise Firaxis is going for with this sequel, been wanting a "fight the alien oppressors" motif since getting my first game-over in the original X-Com.

I can run this on my Mac most definitely but im not giving up hope for an alternate version for the Ps4, but if nothing else at least I will be able to play it.

My questions are really about the mod support the game is promising. Delievery over the Steam Workshop is a given, but the question I have is just what areas are going to exposed to modding at release. Are we going to be getting any source code so that we can reimplement native code? Or is everyone just going to writing their mods to a specific exposed set of interfaces and the mods will be dynamically loaded by the game provided the mods are in place and implement the expected interface?

Yeah it is an interesting one. The website confirms:
"Community-focused tools allow you to create your own campaign, tactical gameplay, aliens, classes, strategy game features, and share within the Steam Workshop."
I'm not sure if that is everything, but I was hoping they will allow for messing with some more assets along with the procedural generation as well. It would be great if people could expand upon it or have specific map types or game modes they create have certain elements be procedurally generated to suit what they want to create

Your GPU is an integrated one, and that's nto good, but the new Iris APU's are supposed ot be much better than the old ones.

Civ 5 was kind of fragmented though. The basic mod making features were there early, but the library code so we could recompile some of the DLLs in Civ 5 came much much later.
Doesn't the MBP have graphics switching? My 2012 MBPR has a Nividia 650M and it runs the 2012 XCOM fine when I bootcamp on Windows (I haven't tried the Mac port, and don't intend to).
Battle scanners are a band-aid solution. Long War has more pods in most missions than vanilla, so moving up aggressively gives you a higher chance of activating pods. And those pods are actually a threat throughout the game, unlike in vanilla where you can roflstomp them mid-to-late game with 100% crit squadsight double tap snipers. Battle scanners help you plan your engagements, but don't fix the underlying problem that Long War is campier than vanilla. And it's not like battle scanners are unlimited, either.
Long War itself seems to promote a more passive style of play, with its myraid of perks, weapons, etc. that give bonuses to not moving: Infantry, LMG's, Battle/Heavy Rifles, Platform Stability, Rocket Scatter mechanics. Sure, you have Assaults and sometimes Scouts, but pretty much every other class is long-range oriented. When the majority of your squad gets bonuses from staying still, you can't engage properly when moving up aggressively. There's a reason why the most popular strategy for dealing with landed large UFO's in Long War is sitting behind cover and spamming alt-O until most pods are dead. Moving up is a huge risk.

Long War has tools for aggressive, non-campy play. I'm averaging meld can recovery rates of nearly 70% in my current campaign, and while I do have overwatch troops that doesn't mean I sit there and camp waiting for aliens to come to me. Overwatch can be used very aggressively. I double move more than I blue move overwatch without a doubt.
Especially now w/ the command ability in b15e, you have a lot of tools to push forward on maps and constantly be fighting without triggering too many enemy pods at once.
I don't really know what that means, honestly. Is that one of the 15" models? I think the 15" ones have an actual graphics card, but those are considerably more expensive, and I've been told I need a 3.0 gHz+ processor, but you can't get that on the 15". Granted, they're quad core vs dual core, but I don't really know enough about computers to really know what that means.
