Xenoblade announced for New 3DS

So, I'm sure plenty of people will find this super-awesome, cause having a big open-world RPG like that on a handheld seems very nifty, but here's a question: if you already own a 3DS, are you going to get another since they're saying you're SOL for games that demand more juice? Just a curiousity I need to answer.

Yes I will buy the new 3DS. I've already got OG 3DS, Japanese 3DS LL, and a 2DS. One more added to the collection wouldn't hurt.

NeoGAF: The place where fanboy-wars are fought over frames and specs, but how dare Nintendo bringing better hardware after 3.5 years!

I'm gonna get it and the new 3DS.

It's the only portable console with support going forward now (and that's how I like to play).

I never played the game on Wii so this will be all new for me.

So it wont run o my original 3ds? Fuck that, ridiculous.

I'm selling it now, before the news gets out and devalue it.

I'm sorry for not being okay with my 3DS not being able to play 3DS games.

Welcome to every electronic device ever
Hmm that's so true except:

My old PHAT PS2 plays "every" PS2 game.

My old phat PS3 plays "every" PS3 game.

My old PSP plays "every" PSP game.

I don't see my Vita 1000 being unable to play future Vita games.

My launch 360 seems to be able to play every 360 game.

My launch wii seems to be able to play every wii game.

So much for every electronic device ever.

Wait...so the New 3DS is not just a new chassis with the control pad pro built in but is also running with refreshed hardware specs?

And they didn't call the thing the 3DS 2 or something to make it readily obvious that some games will only run on the new hardware?

Yeah, not confusing at all.

Needs the new 3DS. Laughing my ass off to another of Nintendo's stupid and anti consumer decisions. I just keep not buying any of your products (unless used maybe).

Are you serious?

He's serious. And while the statement does appear to be pretty bitter on face value, you have to remember that teams developing N3DS games won't be developing 3DS games, so even if it wouldn't be THIS game, he is likely missing out on something.

I for some reason had a weird feeling they would announce this somehow in someway. I don't know why, just some weird hunch earlier in the show. Maybe it was just crazy wishing that somehow came true in a coincidence as I laughed off the thought. Wow, can't believe that happened, and that we are getting it on 3ds. Certainly will get that day one. I've already gotten a regular and LL model over the years, but this will certainly have me upgrade again. Thankfully it ain't coming out soon so I don't need to get a new 3ds just yet. But dang nintendo, every time they bring out something I think I'll pass on, they make an announcement that makes me go right out and buy it.

Man, you'd think they would make Xenoblade their supposed 2015 remaster for Wii U to prepare folks on XCX. Nintendo gonna Nintendo, I suppose.

And this is why consoles typically never change their specs post launch. Splitting the userbase like this is just ridiculous and doesn't make any sense.

I guess ill stick to my Wii version :/

Nintendo, I really want to play Xenoblade, but damn. Can't see this selling at all. How do you explain to the mass market that in order to play their new line of premium games, you have to buy a new system which looks exactly like the previous one and also has the same name? Atleast the gameboy > gameboy color brought something visual with the.. well.. colors.

This is an easy title to show people how much more powerful the new hardware is. Nintendo's plan is to extend the 3DS generation for a few more years without a huge leap in hardware. So this is basically the first showcase title for 3DS 2.0.

Their not really showcasing anything with a downgraded port of a Wii game (Its not like the Wii was a powerhouse to begin with). If they wanted to truly show that off then a ground up game for it or that Majora's Mask remake they've been teasing for god know's how long would have been the way to go since the original MM's would look noticeably terrible compared to a remake.

Instead they take the Wii game, downgrade it for the New 3DS leading to the inevitable comparisons with the original version that will most likely not end favorably for it. Rather than a HD remake akin to WWHD for the WiiU especially when the console itself not only still has a comparatively sparse release schedule but also has a spiritual successor to that very game on the horizon which just about everyone can see will need a decent enough marketing campaign to prevent it from bombing.

Sorry about that vent but as much as i am happy for the New 3DS (Finally time to upgrade from my OG 3DS) but this announcement and port is just stupid in nearly every way.

So in terms of 3DS's Nintendo now has:

original 3DS
3DS XL
2DS
*new* 3DS
*new* 3DS XL

All of them can play regular 3DS games (except the 2DS can't play in 3D) but there might be some new games (Wii ports?) that play only on the *new* 3DS's?

I think they should've just called it 3DS 2.0 or something.

I wonder how many of you people were mad when the GBC came out and got exclusive games or even the DSi. You people really need to get over it, this isn't the first time they have done this. Nintendo and third parties will still release games for both models because 45 million as well as make exclusives for the newer ones.

I'd be all for a new model with a better screen, CPU and GPU. This seems to only have one of those and looking at Xenoblade so far, seems fairly pointless.

All I care about is playing games, so the other features aren't required for me. Unless this makes games significantly better, I can't see it being something I want... They'll need a ton of games exlcusive to the new one to get me to upgrade.

GBC may as well have been a whole new model, it was better in all areas. I never felt the need for a DSi, but nothing came out that was remotely interesting. Hell, I've still got a JP launch day DS. This is landing in the DSi model territory for me. I'm not mad, I just doubt I'll want it and wish they did a more significant upgrade. Vita resolution top screen with a better GPU on top would have been delightful and hard to resist.

lol at the rage

If they can make the framerate decent, I'll pick up a New 3DS for this. Never got around to picking up an XL, so it will be a massive upgrade for me regardless.

I stuck about 15 hours into Xenoblade when it first came out, but it didn't grip me.Voice acting was awful and the story seemed a bit rubbish. However I'm very aware that everyone seems to think it's the second coming of RPGs.

Any advice for getting back into it? I've tried to pick it up again a few times but I can't remember what I was supposed to be doing, and just got annoyed with it. I believe I last left it at the beginning of the second town, or just before. In some mine or something.

In regards to the 3DS port- it doesn't look pretty. Surely they'd be better off dropping some new hardware that can run Wii games?

This IS the new hardware that can 'run' Wii games. And in terms of picking Xenoblade back up, if you really want to, stick to the main quests. It's a fun game, but the mountain of pretty boring sidequest content can be suffocating. If it's still not fun though, then why waste your time? After 15 hours you should be able to tell whether or not you're enjoying a video game, I don't know that you'll change your mind by spending another 15. Not everyone likes all games, even really popular ones.

Yes, you should be sorry, because you're holding progress back.
Holy shit, are you serious? Progress? It's a fucking revision. Even though Nintendo does this since GB, this shit shouldn't cut these days.

No way in hell I'll be buying the revision (which doesn't even look good at all) for exclusives. If it was a new hardware, no one would be complaining.

Stupid decision is stupid. If there was a Wii game that would look gorgeous in a HD port, besides both Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime Trilogy, was this.

If this would be your first experience with Xenoblade I implore you to reconsider. Wii(U) or better yet Dolphin would be the way to go for a game like this.

Yes, you should be sorry, because you're holding progress back.

This isn't progress, this is a stop-gap. I'd rather they were channeling these ideas towards a 3DS successor, you know, something that would be actual progress. Who knows when that's coming now.

Too bad for the DS--> DSi, older smartphones to newer ones, older PCs to newer ones, Gameboy to Gameboy color, etc.

And the new model actually has a bunch going for it then just brightness and screen size guys

The exclusive complaints are a Mountain out of a molehill. Chances are this Wii port is going to be the most compelling exclusive.

Wait, what?
So there will be two "classes" of 3DS users now?
Like there were two "classes" of Game Boy users and two "classes" of DS users.

Either buy in or enjoy exclusive content years later. I bought in on GBC (for the reason of an action replay cart not fitting the brick) but ignored DSi.
