Xenoblade announced for New 3DS

This has nothing to do with Xenoblade...

Seriously... Why is this so difficult for people to comprehend?

If this isn't about Xenoblade, why are you posting in this topic about Xenoblade.

I understand the issue, but I don't understand the over-dramatic response. You have the power to voice your opinion by not buying the game/hardware. Everyone will make their own cost analysis regarding how much they want to play any exclusive content.

The problem is this is a sign of things to come. Xenoblade is just the first game that's being developed exclusively for the new hardware, who knows what other devs may go in that direction, as well.

I can well afford to buy this new 3DS model, and I probably will, but it doesn't mean that it's fair.

I believe most newer games will be new 3DS exclusive. So if you want to play them, buy the system. If this maligns your consumerist ideology, then don't. You can't act like you've been deprived something. You shouldn't act so entitled.

It's not fair to say 'GAF:' - I realised it's only two or three users that are whining hard.

you're right

Hm... I suppose this is great news but I'm not gonna get a new handheld to play the first Xenoblade again, sorry Nintendo.

Even less when the Wii U one is less than a year away.

Why the hell are they releasing that port to 3DS instead of Wii U? People have been asking for a HD port, not a portable port.

Damn it.

I've been asking for both, honestly. And I would gladly buy both at some point, though probably during a sale and not day one, as long as both are good ports.

I would actually get super hyped if Xenoblade was included in a combo pack with Xenoblade Chronicles X in a similar vein to Bayo 2 and 1.

Pretty sure now that a HD version will come. The game is perfect for double/triple/multiple dippers
like me
due to having a smaller but more dedicated fanbase. Still probably going to pass for this version just yet. 3D is tempting, though. I wonder how much the new 3DS improves on the 3D output.
I think this cries there won't be a HD version.

Maybe cost issues + Japan loves handheld RPGs.

Hopefully, the New 3DS version will let you customize your HUD like Monster Hunter does, because having all that stuff up on the top screen is going to get really busy really quick. They already moved the player character portraits/HP totals to the bottom screen by the looks of it, so hopefully you can do more than that.

If for nothing else, this is a big vote of confidence in developing Xenoblade as a series, which is great, since Nintendo has had a lot of problems with spinning off their other mature-ish RPGs into anything more than a one-shot in the past.

No thanks, Nintendo. I already have a 3DS and there's no good reason for me to upgrade to a different unit this late in the game... not even for a game as awesome as Xenoblade. That screenshot didn't do it any favors, either. I think I'll just stick to the Wii version (or Dolphin if I think my PC can handle it).

Yeah right. The few developers/publishers still releasing traditional handheld games are just going to sacrifice the 45M 3DS owners in favor of this new system that is marginally more powerful? A system that likely only got a boost in CPU power so that it could perform real-time eye-tracking of the player to negate the 3D viewing angle problem?

Why would they do that? Xenoblade is likely going to be a very special case. The c-stick can be replaced by optional control schemes, such as moving camera control to the touch screen... you know, what devs have already implemented for games that use the joystick add-on?

They aren't releasing it to 3DS, they are releasing it to New3DS. I wonder if it's because the development of the port was a testing ground to see what was needed to get one of their biggest home console games running on portable hardware.

Also, by 'people' presumably you mean western people who prefer home consoles. Who didn't exactly buy huge amounts of WiiUs.

I don't know, it'll be interesting to compare Wii Xenoblade to this, and both versions of Smash too, to see what they think about how running the same software across both machines is going to work. Obviously the HUD in the portable version is way different, for a start.

Because this is a vastly downgraded version of the Wii version? Because you could buy a Wii and the original Xenoblade for quite a bit less than this new 3ds and the game for it would cost?

I mean sure, if you like looking at a small screen of a port of a game that was played on the big screen and like pop ins and lower frames and lower graphics, then sure go right on ahead and buy the "new" version. Just don't come here complaining that everything about it sucks when there was a much better, much cheaper option out there to play the same game.

I'd like to point out that this does not preclude a Xenoblade HD for the Wii U.

Hell if they had a team working on this without anybody having a clue, I imagine the next Wii U direct we could hear from their sister team...

Why do people say it's 10 fps? As far as I remember the slowdown during the QTE is intentional. For the rest, it doesn't seem different from the Wii version.

Is that a serious question...

Yep. Looks pretty nice to me from the 360p youtube video. Will probably pick up a New 3DS since I skipped out on the 3DS. I look forward to the New 3DS exclusive titles. I didn't have a Wii , and am not interested in buying one at this point, so this is an extra bonus.

Well, it's great to have the game in portable form, but a shame it's moving in the wrong direction resolution/tech-wise. :( The New 3DS exclusivity doesn't really bother me personally since I have yet to buy a 3DS anyway.
Still, I'll probably stick with the Wii version I already own, unless there are some big gameplay or story-related improvements/additions for the 3DS version.

The only way I'll buy Xenoblade Chronicles (Again) is a HD Remaster on Wii U otherwise nope it's way too ugly with (Personal opinion) cheesy control on a portable.

Well maybe you're right. Then there isn't really an issue in that case regarding a split user base.

not sure how I feel I want more people to play this gem but it is exclusive to the upgrade hardware side of the 3DS line

plus the game looks like it is struggling to run smoothly

I want my HD version on U

I do not understand this move at all. It looks awful.

Maybe Nintendo could have actually done some honest work and gotten it to work on the 3ds. I know effort is too much for them and they rather just make you buy a whole new thing.

Or they could have waited for a true 3DS successor until porting Xenoblade to handhelds.

FUCK THIS.

Way to screw over launch buyers.
How are they screwing us over? Have you seen Xenoblade in motion? If so, do you honestly believe the OG 3DS is capable of handling it with a playable framerate? Seriously, Nintendo finally addressed the shortfalls of the 3DS and people start bitching uncontrollably.

Awesome. I have only played a little of xenoblade but i love it so far. I think ill start it up again now that I have the time for it. For some reason, games on handhelds always are easier to play since I can play them anywhere. Ill definitly be picking this up day one

The 3DS attach rate is shit. If I was a dev creating something fairly 'core', I think I'd be willing to throw 45 million unengaged consumers under the bus on the assumption that the cats that buy lots of 3DS games will be the same cats lining up for a new 3DS on day one.

Please tell me this post is sarcastic/trying to be ironic...

The new 3DS can't be that much stronger then a regular 3ds. It's not being pushed as a successor, just a better model. What was 5% thrown out as an estimate. Gee, that's such a big difference. It's XL dosen't even fix the resolution problem. This hardly sounds like a big gap. I don't buy that they couldn't get it to run on 3ds. It all sounds like a cop out. Made to just make the new 3ds more attractive.

This is an extremely painful read!!
Almost as bad as this entire "just spend more money" defense you've been pushing.

If that is how devs/pubs think, why are we still expecting cross-gen titles through 2015? And since when have devs treated portables as "core" consumers?

Don't know, don't care.

I would rather have had them wait until their next handheld than have them give the middle finger to the fans who supported them when they actually needed it.

Hell... it looks ugly enough that they probably should have waited anyways.

Gotta drum up further interest for the Wii U title. Strike while the iron is hot and make it hot by striking and all that jazz.

Of all the wii ports, I think this was the least likely.

Really? It's one of the best games on the platform, and one of the ones that had zero reliance on motion control. Seems about as well suited to a port job as any 3DS game there is.

Do you honestly believe this? Are you aware of the major differences in hardware between the original 3DS and the Wii?

They owe you, man. How dare they.
