Xenoblade announced for New 3DS

Going from playing this on my WiiU to Dolphin was such a drastic leap. Everything scales up so well. I dont know why they are bothering with this. Shoulve gave it the wind waker treatment.

There are still games that wont run on older iPhone revisions though, but not the majority. How is that different than what's happening here? :P

I got this feeling that it won't support 3D.

Yeah wondering about that since I havent really seen it been mentioned. Has there been any word on this?

It's still worse IMO, because now we know that's where some of Monolith Soft's resources went into.

Are we sure they are porting it? serious question. I can seem them having a seperate team/dev do the port.

3DSXL trade in value is only $85.00 at gamestop right now. Hmm I wonder if I should jump in right now so I can be done with this system for good.

What do you mean?
I guess it's different because there are new iPads every year. I just don't really see why people are so upset. Nintendo has done this before. They aren't forcing you to buy it.

It was shitty last time they did it too. It's an anti-consumer product that fractures the install base.

And it's different with iPads because the leaps between them each year are larger than this. It's not remotely comparable because while the fully priced "NEW" 3DS and normal 3DS are barely different from each other at all aside from a few new buttons and an overclocked processor, a fully priced iPad today is worlds apart from the iPad from four years ago. And even then the iPad from four years ago is still perfectly functional and runs almost all of the new software coming out.

Because in a way it is. It's the most minor generation leap ever i can think of but the new console is still capable doing things the old console could not and no one is forcing you to buy it. Like i said before IF it has enough exclusives then you can justify buying it. However if nintendo decide to make games exclusive that could have been done on the OG 3ds, then nintendo can go F*** themselves.

I mean, sure, I guess? But if it's the most minor generational leap ever and is only really a leap if you want think of it as one and squint your eyes in the right way then why bother calling it that?

Not even Nintendo is calling it that. It's a "New 3DS". Just like how the 3DS XL was a new 3DS.

Nah its the same shit, might be subjective content but its pretty much the same argument. Can choose to ignore but that would be whats wrong.

Nah if it was the same shit, this "new 3DS" would be coming out 9 years after the original 3DS and wouldn't have Nintendo making exclusive retail titles for it.

Nice argument though.

I know your fond of this argument Brazil so I don't want you to miss it.

This entire argument is based around people's expectations of how long systems should last before becoming obsolete.

Basically, either you're happy with this, or you're not. And that'll never change. I'll keep on thinking that the New 3DS is a great thing, and you'll keep on thinking that it's a bad thing.

I had already left this thread behind me because it's quite obviously a discussion that isn't going anywhere, but I came back because you addressed me personally. You can argue all you want, but that won't change the fact that the New 3DS is a thing that's going to be released soon. Hopefully you guys will come to terms with that, either by deciding to buy it or to ignore it.

I just feel like an idiot. I really wish I hadn't bought a 3ds this summer. Feels like a big waste of money now. I really regret buying the system. I really would like to play Xenoblade.

NEW NINTENDO 3DS - way more powerful than the old one. Trust Nintendo, an amazing looking game like this won't run on the old 3ds :^)

That no one has to make because, hey, no one's forcing you.

The 3DS couldn't handle Xenoblade. This New 3DS can. If you want handheld Xenoblade, you buy the New 3DS. If you don't, then you don't buy it. No one needs to get mad at this. The old 3DS doesn't stop existing the moment this is released.

Uhhhh

I get what you're saying the only reason you can think of it that way is because of the CPU.
I would be cool if they overclocked the GPU as well as the one in the og 3DS is underclocked.

Wow, I thought the new 3DS would at least try to make me upgrade. But after watching that trailer, no thanks. Watch Nintendo push bunch of exclusives that "only" work on the new 3DS because it won't sell, completely abandoning the old one.

3DS games ALWAYS look like shit in trailers and stills. It's not very photogenic.

Well yeah, but I still don't see any difference from the old and the new one. I don't really care how games look, I love my 3DS. I just don't understand why they are already making a new 3DS, with exclusives.

Something like this was expected when the New 3DS was announced.

I mean, it had more buttons, an analog nub, faster CPU. There was no way this device would not have exclusive games.

This is a new next-generation device. Maybe a mini-next-generation. But a new generation none the less.

It's kind of like the Gameboy Color. The Gameboy Color was an in-between generation between the GameBoy and GameBoy Advance since it had its own exclusive games that did not work on the GameBoy.

In all honesty, I expect shorter generations in the future from Nintendo. It keeps hardware sales up and keeps the revenues rolling in. I could see them doing a new generation every three years, provided it has backwards compatibility most shouldn't feel left out.

And software developers won't be adversely affected since their games will likely run on the newer system to come.

The strategy is not too dissimilar to Apple, and it hasn't hurt Apple one bit.

Just a rumor, but I guess this helps why XC is a New 3DS exclusive game:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=885095

Sometimes we forget that XC pushed the Wii hardware, from very short loading times to expansive maps with no loading in in-game areas (villages, elevator travels, during and after battles, etc.). It's not simply a processor thing (you need to have a large RAM to pack those in-use map data to provide essentially those fast capabilities of the game), and if the rumors are true then it all falls together.

The whole thing was really ugly though, and it was NOT the YT stream's fault. This is not the treatment Xenoblade deserves.

Because it's being displayed at higher than native resolution in a compressed video? I'll reserve judgement until I see an eShop video on my 3DS screen.

Increased OS performance, more buttons to be compatible with different genres, and more portability with Wii U games (Zr, Zl buttons). On top of that more power doesn't always equate to better graphics, it can mean faster loading times, more enemies on screen at once, larger areas without loading, etc. A game like Xenoblade with large areas may not have been possible without chunking up the areas? Not sure.

They aren't just releasing it for shits and giggles, there will be benefits to it. It's just up to you if you want to trade in your old one and buy the new one for $150 or w/e it'll cost.

Yep, that looked terrible.

Dat draw distance.....ugh....compressed YT video or not, if that's how it's managing to 'compensate' for even weaker hardware, I'll stick to the Wii version.

Presenting your thoughts based on the pillar of the false dilemma logical fallacy is not the strongest way to go about it.

I lol'd.

Dunno why people are surprised though. That's how it looked on the Wii. It wasn't going to look better than the Wii version. A lot of people haven't played Xenoblade I guess.
