That ball is pretty useless. I was looking something in the hangar. Like a key or something, and it point to nowhere.

That's cause the ball is only used to get you to specific points, for the key you were supposed to find it on your own in the yellow highlighted area.

is there a way to see if a Skell art has a chance to stagger? I can't seem to find anything in the art descriptions. is it just written as "weapon damage + inflict stagger" or what?

Yeah the dupe+boosters are essential. I only got as high as I did after I got the booster g2 from finishing Primordia's collectopedia.
so that's who you get it, I was asking yesterday.

time to grind Collectopedia then.

How do I use the ball?

navballz0saq.jpg

PDF manual is linked in the OP, eManual is in your game :)

The follow ball has been my saviour several times. I was stuck following the pointer on the map and it turned out I had to go around and into a cave, the follow ball neatly led me to the entrance of the cave. Also just when travelling distances and to make sure you're in the right track without always looking at the map. It's a great feature.

Man, I have no idea where the Devil's Colony is in Oblivia. Need it for a quest, can't find it.

Edit: never mind hehe.

51 hours in, nearing lvl 40... I'm never going to stop playing this game right?

Probably a very old simple question (I've had barely any time to play the game since launch), but are melee skills considered "physical" damage? I'm currently on the Duelist class, was using the skill that increased my melee damage, but I see that I got a skill through Samurai Gunner that increases "physical" damage, so I'm not sure if that affects my melee attacks/arts as well?

I'm at 50 hours, lvl 30 and just finished chapter 5 XD
So yeah, we've still a long way to go.

Haven't you seen any of the trailers? lol

Well I'm through Chapter 9 and the cutscenes haven't been nearly as good as the original's so far. A lot fewer "epic" ones and the few good ones don't reach the heights of Xenoblade Wii. And then you got the sound and framerate issues on top of that.

I think (but am not 100% sure) that "physical" damage is a type of damage that both melee and ranged weapons can inflict, as opposed to "electric", "thermal", "gravity"-type damage, etc.

If you look at your weapon details I think it'll also indicate what type of damage it inflicts - like I've seen a knife that inflicts gravity-type damage, etc.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

Check your weapons in the equipment screen. Damage type for every Gun and Melee weapon is categorized as being physical/ether/etc... If the weapons you have equipped are physical dmg types, then bonus should be passively applied. If you are equipping weapons that do ether dmg, consider trading out.

To those who beat all the story chapters, what total completion percentage were you at? I was at
35% so I still have a ton to do. I only did maybe 10-15 affinity quests and never even had a significant amount of party members join me yet. I'll definitely still be playing this for a long while.

Yeah that seems to be the case from what i've seen, all types of weapons can have multiple damage types.

Is there a way to mess up the Oblivia Caravan quest?

I chose to
gather the 14 Kiweggs instead of fight
.

I'm just afraid somehow a death will come from my innocuous choices.

Great, thanks for the help! Didn't realize that Physical was one of the attributes, but makes sense. I'm still early enough where that stuff hasn't really come into play yet. Thanks!

Well, this was unexpected. Spoilers for a normal mission...

Yet another alien race joining New LA from not even an Affinity quest, but just a Normal mission, the
zaruboggan or something
. And then this opened a couple of other quests related to them in NLA.

The world building that comes from some of these normal quests is really surprising.

A lot of the best quests are normal quests.

The only thing I don't like is how the main missions are locked behind affinity missions. Why not just incorporate the affinity missions into the main mission, then? Finding where the mission you are forced to make is gets annoying very quickly. Also, the game should sort the party members by itself, so you don't need to go looking for other team members around NLA or remove other members.

liking the game a lot overall right now, but holy crap i've never heard a soundtrack so hit and miss. there is some good stuff in here, and then there is some god awful stuff. really strange

99% of the cutscene music is terribly misplaced. Only time where I thought it genuinely worked was in the Chapter 5 climax.

Is it just me or do the later side quests take a dark turn? NLA residents dropping like flies.

Is it because of your choices? If it is, isn't it clear what real happen or are the results really hard to predict?

I like it a lot because it encourage exploration of NLA. You walk around to find the affinity missions learn gossip that tell where some are, heart-to-hearts, etc. The icons for the affinity mission are relatively easy to see from a distance. You may stumble upon our stuff you find interesting.

I also like that characters hang out at their set locations some of which have them talking with others. It makes the world feel alive. Once you know where they are it's easy to go back.

Also it would be really weird with how many party members there are if they all just hang out in the meeting room.

They also relocate to their heart-to-heart locations at certain times. It's the coolest feeling to stumble upon them doing something in the world. Makes them feel very independent of you.

It's making me get in the habit of saving before taking some of them on that's for sure. They're a great step up from most of the original's subquests where there was hardly any actual development.

Well, putting directly or not the affinity into the story won't have changed much because you will still have to do it at a moment.

But yeah, they could've mixed some with the story since they're obligatory.

I just completed Chapter 7. I'm missing 4 AM's at the moment, and I don't really know how to get them.

I tried looking at the locator spreadsheet earlier, and it's...not very helpful. Too complicated and it doesn't tell me what certain things mean so I can decipher stuff.

Overall, this game doesn't tell you jack and it's very frustrating despite being very enjoyable. I know people have told me to look at Manual (I have) and told me to see the Survival Guides on youtube (I have) but it's clearly an oversight on their part for a game that is insanely complicated. Hell, I don't even know how to easily access additional party members (The story NPC's, not online players). For everything I do know, I feel like I'm missing 3 more things and I never had this problem with XC on Wii.

Oh my god, the manual is the most helpful piece of literature devised by humans. It explained a lot and made a lot of stuff make more sense. My battles have gotten better handled and it's been easier to find stuff.

THAT BEING SAID the marks on the map that indicate what's in that hex seem...inaccurate. A number of them that label where missions are or affinity missions or treasure boxes or tyrants...aren't actually there.

You mostly get them through secondary quest.

What do you think you're missing ?
We will maybe be able to help you.

But yeah, first Xeno has a smoother learning curve.

Aside from the one gained at the end of chapter 5 I'm pretty sure all other AMS come from sidequests.

They have phones.
Let me have a submenue to quickly forming my parting, having to run around to find them is annoying when you are currently changing your party often. Also heart to heart possibly making them move out of their usual spot (and not having any other mean to adding them to the party) can be extremely annoying, especially when the heart to heart in question is not time dependant, i.e. the character will never be at his usual sport (looking at you, Phog).

This is, hands down, the most epic battle to ever grace an RPG:

Monolith are being wasted on this series - their true calling has always been Tokyo Jungle.

99% of the cutscene music is terribly misplaced. Only time where I thought it genuinely worked was in the Chapter 5 climax.

Chapter 8 wasn't too bad either - even the vocal track in one of the climactic cutscenes wasn't that out of place - but I agree that the vast majority of musical decisions made for the cutscenes are awful. The transitions between cutscene tracks tend to be incredibly jarring as well - look at all the times they abruptly cut to that one piano piece as soon as someone's backstory gets mentioned. It actively hurts any sort of mood they're trying to go for, combined with the bad choices of accompaniment in every other case, the soundtrack undermines the cutscenes at every turn.

THAT BEING SAID the marks on the map that indicate what's in that hex seem...inaccurate. A number of them that label where missions are or affinity missions or treasure boxes or tyrants...aren't actually there.

-Some tyrants appear at certain times of the day or certain weather conditions or both.
-Some missions/affinity quests have prerequisites to appear
-Some treasure boxes may be underground in a cavern where the entrance is way off in another segment.

They're accurate, just not giving the whole picture.

The creature design in this game is something else.

Some of the late-game indigens... damn.

edit: I see four slots for traveling companions, but many hours in, I've only gotten Tatsu. Does that ever change?

Just had a squad mission with 2 players that had infinite overdrive builds.

Time ran out, but basically all I did was keep the boss binded while these two blasted away forever. Maxed out the damage counter on the overdrive thingy when the boss timer ran out. Seeing team damage being 999999999 or whatever number of nines made a good laugh.

There has been at least one mission where you are supposed to escort someone and they showed up in that spot until you completed the mission. I haven't seen any other use for it.
