Looking at all the characters I have and realizing that this isn't even all of them, I kinda feel like this game would've benefited from focusing more on a smaller cast. A lot of these characters just seem superfluous, even if they're interesting; honestly, you could probably cut half of them without losing much.

The issue with the ones not involved in the story is that they're optional recruits, so the game can't write them into the plot in case you don't have them. If more of them joined as part of the story (or even if doing their Affinity Quests was just a requirement for Story Missions), I think people would have fewer issues with the story.

Just listening to the Mira theme on youtube and it is so freaking good. Full version sounds so much better than the E3 version.

All you need is Mia.

So I have a gap in my AMs. I have all up til candid & credible, a gap, then orphean tech. I'm assuming the gap is the nopon AM, but how do you unlock it?

Blast Fencers suck though. I know because I am one but still use a raygun and knife anyway with mastermind arts and skills.

If you're a Blast Fencer, you go all melee and buffs/aura. That's where it shines.

It's an affinity quest involving Nopon caravans to sign a treaty.

But then you would have to do more affinity quests, getting affinity levels up or things like that just to advance the main story, its more like the developers want you to explore at your own pace, requiring more characters for main missions is not neccessary

I disagree. The main issue with the story is that most people don't like the characters that the story chooses to focus on, especially Elma, who's basically the protagonist in the main story chapters, but far too cold and stoic to really carry that role. Lin quickly gets reduced to comic relief, with little relevant interactions with Elma and the Avatar in the main story chapters and Affinity Quests is pretty much just the "rookie" team member who is never allowed to have any important decisions or interactions with Elma. The whole dynamic of the main party in the Story Chapters is flawed.

Then, when you get to the expanded main cast, who pop up in some story missions or obligatory Affinity Quests, but not all of them, there's also Irina, who pretty much fills the same niche as Elma. And Gwin is the blandest party member in the game, but somehow also part of the main story. Really, I take "superfluous" non-story party members over the main party forced by the story almost every time I can.

Wow 4 skells make a huge difference. Equipped 3 of them with the G-Buster and we're mowing down enemies left and right. Jumped to level 40 in like 10 minutes lol

edit: Holy fuck, that area SkeptiMism suggested at the eastern side of Oblivia is a goldmine. Jumped another level in the last few minutes there. Woo hoo!

The Inferno (second medium model) is a fine replacement if you don't like the looks of the Amdusias or Mastema.

That said, I do think the heavies are simply the strongest in terms of stats, even with the reduced mobility/evasion.

Ah gotcha. I got myself the Mastema and also bought an Inferno. Got 2 Leilahs for the rest of the squad as well since I was short on credits.

I think we will need to take a tally on how many people ended up getting killed in our playthroughs that we could have saved. So far, I think, I've only failed to save one person and I am largely playing without guides (though some save scumming).

I thought about it, having a perfect save and all, then I realized for a special game like this, what was perfect to me was my first playthrough and all outcomes I stumbled into.

How did you manage to lose someone even while save scumming. Also, there's no way to keep such a tally because I don't know who could have been saved or not. :p

So how exactly does EXP work?

Sometimes I get like 600 exp for killing something but only about 100 or so gets reflected on the level meter. Whereas just now I jumped like 5 levels in 15 minutes as every Prone Skell kill filled up about half my meter even though I only got 700 something EXP each kill.

Well, kinda hard to tally since some are mandatory deaths I think.

yeah pretty much

I have so many dead and even if someone uses a guide they will never see the side we saw without using youtube heh heh

It's all about the melee combos and overdrive spam.

I have 7000 TP that I can fill before the fight even starts with Essence Exchange (trade your current HP with your TP).

It works pretty well and I don't even have half the Jedi abilities yet. Can't wait to get the rest so I can see far this thing goes.

Some noob questions:

How important is the division you choose? I chose Pathfinder. Does that mean I should avoid doing non-Pathfinder stuff as I'll get less exp or does it really not matter? Should I be switching a lot?

Can you change non-main characters' classes? Like Elma and Lin, I see no class change option for them.

What do the icons on the hexagons on the map mean? I can't find an index for them.

Does every hexagon have a probe location or just some of them?

Why are all these secondary chars so much better than the mains. I'm talking about Murderess, Mia and H.B.

They're so much more interesting than the main group

Not too important at the end of it all; it'd be wise to choose something that you find yourself indulging on to raise your BLADE level quicker, but it's not gonna kill you; don't switch a ton, find what you like.

No

Monster = Tyrant
Hands = H2H destination
Paper thing = Quest destination
Sparkles = field action

Only the probe hexagons have probes

What you see on the screen after killing a monster is the base experience it gives, but it's multiplied by the level difference (so that if you're far lower level, you get a lot more exp, and if you're far higher level, then you get a lot more exp) and potentially some other things (dunno).

So I broke a skell in battle and now I don't know where it's gone. This game is really frustrating sometimes. think I've hit the wall and had enough.

Go back to your HQ. Using the console, you will be able to regain your Skell (it will cost you 1 insurance point though). Once you break one Skell 3 times, you will have to repair it (it costs a ton, but this is the only way to get back your Skell's equipment). Do note that when a Skell is destroyed, if you manage to land a "Perfect" during the Soul Voice, you won't lose insurance points.

Not that important. You could maybe choose an exploration-based division at first and switch to a more fighting/mission oriented one later, but it doesn't really matter.

Their classes are fixed.

The icons denote which kind of action you need to do to "survey" that hexagon (making a golden shield appear and counting them for the survey rate you see in the bottom right corner on the touchscreen). The tripod is a data probe location, the stars means there's a specific field action you need to do, the beast head means there's a tyrant to defeat and the piece of paper means a mission starts/ends there.

See above, only those with a tripod have one.

That's exactly why I think they should've made some of the optional people required.

There just isn't enough depth to the few people you're forced to use as is to stretch out all of the Story Missions; if I could, I would take the extras over Lin and Elma (and I do so whenever it's possible/feasible), but since almost all of the Story Missions are written around those two and the "expanded" main cast, opportunities to take them along are few and between. If the extras were mandatory recruits and the story was written to accommodate that, there'd be less of people getting sick of Elma and Lin, and more opportunities to showcase the rest of the cast.

I think part of it is the fact that there's no leaked XP/BP to people outside the party, which makes it difficult to switch up your crew without people being underleveled.

BP carries over. While class level and main level don't, the progression for both is exponential as long as a party member is underleveled. Grinding an unused party member to good levels should take no more than 15-20 minutes.

I finally got this and my God is the world beautiful!!! Many other open world games on more powerful consoles could learn a thing or two about the world design this game excels at.
