Has anyone ever gone into wonder what that percentage thing means on the Blade Tower?

Remaining fuel? Remaining food stocks? How much left artificial oxygen is generated by the city atmosphere to make surviving possible on the planet?

So many different possible theories.

Based on previous threads... I'd say that yes, many many people have wondered about that percentage ;)

Honestly, I got no idea. Probably a key-part of the story.

Wasn't the usage of Ether in Xenoblade a big deal? Like one of the big things in that it was a finite resource or something?

Perhaps the Blade Tower percentage is a similar premise. I'm not sure if this is a spoiler to the original game, but it's just some minor detail I've remembered, that I'm not sure if it's of significance.

It's silly to say Xenogears was cut off from his original vision. I think that will probably forever remain the one game where Takahashi got the most out of what he wanted when he was aiming the highest purely as a creator. Ever since Monolithsoft, it's clear he has other responsibilities beyond just having a creative vision. He has the run the studio, he has to make sure people stay employed, and he has to embrace the culture of being a Nintendo subsidiary.

I just felt that he really wanted to fully explore the universe of Xenogears when he was there at Square. I mean, the game was only the fifth episode out of six if Perfect Works is to be believed. Xenosaga was probably his way of exploring that universe without directly connecting to Xenogears. I don't mean that cut short means cut content. I just mean that I feel that he has so much to tell given how big of the story Xenogears is, especially the beginnings of it.

Sure. He wanted to tell more stories in that world, and didn't get a chance to. But it doesn't seem very different to me at Monolithsoft unfortunately. Xenosaga really suffered from a series of issues regarding creative differences, and he didn't get to explore the world any further. Soma Bringer was another tease of an interesting world with more stories to tell and he didn't get to explore more of that either. Xenoblade felt much more self-contained and scaled back for a Takahashi world, especially with regards to having diverse cultures and factions. It was also probably the first game he wrote where I didn't want more games in that world after it ended.

It's just how business is. Shit happens. I don't think Takahashi will ever really aim to do a large scale multi-game saga sort of story again given how tough it has proven in the past. So I honestly just expect Xenoblade X to be like Xenoblade, but hopefully with much more depth and variation in the setting and the characters. The fictional historical and cultural stuff is my favorite part of Takahashi's visions after all.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that this is the game he's wanted to make all this time since Xenogears. Not at all.

Nothing suggests otherwise. Everything he's been saying hearkens back to XG/XS.

Zzzzz. What a non-update. :p

He says that the Dolls are about 5 times the size of a person - about 9-10 meters tall. This proportion between mechs and characters was something they calculated to have the best balance for exploration and battles. If the mechs got any bigger, then they would have to create even larger maps, and not only would the budget increase, but it would also get boring exploring the wider areas when on foot. Overall though, he's really happy to have finally accomplished making a RPG where there are characters and robots integrated throughout the game after 15 years since founding Monolithsoft.

Edit: Oh it's been taken care of. Zzzz.

DuckRoll you make me sad.

You need to listen to more Sawano music instead of berating him for one dimensional "epic" pieces that people spam!!. He has to make from getting so many anime contracts lately!! You can berate Kobayashi all you want though. Thats the last time she butchers the german language!!

Ahh love his work on his TV Drama's they're great on spotify

https://play.spotify.com/album/6vf1zeDjmaH0rLkoYbS7ly

https://play.spotify.com/album/1d2OrC0KmJGqtGHmwqVhkC

As for the anime he's worked on... Ao no Exorcist's OST is probably my favorite.18 dynamic and varied tunes

Maou and Taiyou no Uta have amazing OST's

Meh.

Blackshlegger and Cyua are better vocalists imo.

Sawno's worked with quite a range of vocal talent, so I like going through his older albums to listen to the best ones.

Insanity love is my all time favorite though. From the male talent. Its on the Marks OST on Spotify.

Also here https://itunes.apple.com/ph/artist/hiroyuki-sawano/id283336417

Been a fan since I watched Team Medical Dragon.

Do we have community threads for composers in off topic gaf?

I find Cyua pretty bad, too. Not as bad as Kobayashi from the second trailer (E3 2013), but still nothing to brag about.

I don't watch J-Dramas but I generally liked what I heard from the Taiyou no Uta OST. I just think he'll go with what he did for Unicorn and stuff like GC. I'm generally not a fan of that.

I still think Sawano is the best choice for this type of game, though. It suits what he does and I hope I'll come around to liking it.

She did some nice stuff on his Musica album and a few others

This song tells a nice tale https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bJZlacxu7E

Half his music for NHK Works sounds like something that'd play during one of those cutscenes with Shulk and Fiora.
They have like 5 songs just for those in Xenoblade!! Itsuka was the one I think sounded most like it. Or was that Will? I'dunno.

All the music he did for Ao No Exorcist is that perfect blend of instrumentation and electronic jazz metal that I like. A bit cooler than the crazy stuff he did for Maou however. I bet they picked him for that anime since he worked on that OST.

All of Mephisto songs sound like something out of a Zelda game though. (First three tracks on this list, all named Gehena Symphonic movment)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_qL4Ulc3Xs&list=PL8089ADFA144361C6

His string game is the best though. Stray, and From Sunrise to Sunset is the best part of Taiyou.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9rSLIMu_RU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6q2imi-WI8 (That glorious trumpet is glorious)

I always like listening to this when its calm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SM2q0qxOX-4 along with this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd99OHoFxio

This song sounds like the stuff from the E3 gameplay footage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26Zs7PJcptU

Besides the Violins and the Piano's, Zanza's theme is the most Sawano thing in the OG Xenoblade https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2OGYMSfDfM

This sounds like the type of music X is gonna have for the sci-fi "feel"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmecYIR0pnc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mAoL-6FiWY

Still hoping he goes ham with the violins and soft and smooth with the piano at times however :D.

It was pretty funny seeing the internet get obsessed with him after AOT and Kill La Kill (which werent that amazing imo OST wise, Unicorn levels imo. Was a bit by the numbers. But then again I havent watched either show.) Platina data is full of stuff that'd murder duckroll's ears though Lol

My buddy went through the same thing earlier after watching Guilty Crown. Hill of Sorrow made quite an impression on him XD

KLK is just weird though music wise. Uzu and Nonon have the best theme, but I dont know what the hell is going on when Gamagoori steps into the room XD.'

Can someone photoshop the x from this http://i.imgur.com/pcOFuTt.png into my avatar?

I love his music from Tears of the Dragon. Never would have thought a medical drama would have this kind of music. Regarding Guilty Crown, that was actually my favorite thing about that anime, and regarding KLK, 犬Kあ3L is da best. Also, how this?

Hello, fellow Sawano fan! I don't think we have those kind of community threads, but Sawano does have a nice western fansite: http://kisetsu-no-uta.com/

They even have exclusive interviews with some of the singers who've worked with him.

Sometimes, on their facebook page, they'll translate his twitter posts. Early last year, Sawano actually tweeted about going out to dinner with Tetsuya Takahashi and looking foward to the games' release.

I hope we get some beautiful songs for Xenoblade X like this song from his Tokyo Tower OST: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C2zaW2vX2w

Lately, his anime OST's have been dominated with hard beats. They work for me in getting me pumped and in the groove , but I don't want him to lose that ability to write a nice soft heart touching tune as well. He still makes some really nice ambient stuff though, like that one Metroid 2 sounding song from the recent LINK OST.

Curious if Takahashi will have anything more to tweet about the music in this game later on. We know they're at least two writers and a couple artists working on the different races for this project now. Considering how big this game is suppose to be, and that fact that the first Xenoblade had, what, five composers, there is still that chance Sawano didn't score the entire game by himself.

But I'd be perfectly fine with him being the only composer. :)

Been awhile but isn't ether basically just crystallized Bionis blood/mojo/lifeforce?

Looking at their sites...wow some nice artwork right there. So they are doing enemy designs? Kazama Raita's name also appeared in Xenoblade's credits I believe.

Yeah he got Suzuki Yasushi to help him this time with the terrain design and the enemy mechs which they at MST did most of the work on. The big old one from the last trailer.

Kazama did the key visuals here like in Xenoblade.

I don't get why this team gets me so hyped

Xenoblade has taken over my favorite game of all time spot

and I use to be a huge Final Fantasy fan early on but now Dragon Quest and FF games have escaped my reach would have loved to try DQX on WiiU but it never came over

I got a PS4 but not excited about he next Final Fantasy

this game though I just want it asap

Takahashi is introducing two new designers on the project today. Yasushi Suzuki is a very talented artist who he has wanted to work with for a long time now, this time he finally got him on board. Suzuki will be designing the mechs on the main enemy faction in the game. The giant mech seen in the final scene of one of the previous trailers was designed by Suzuki. Raita Kazama is also involved in this project. He was the main image illustrator for Xenoblade, so fans should be familiar with his work.

So we should be expecting alot of awesome promo art and concept art with Raita kazama on board

Okay this is a follow up so I'll add it to the original:

Suzuki will be designing the mechs on the main enemy faction in the game. The giant mech seen in the final scene of one of the previous trailers was designed by Suzuki.

Raita Kazama is also involved in this project. He was the main image illustrator for Xenoblade, so fans should be familiar with his work. Kazama is mainly responsible for designing alien NPCs and the primordial life forms (monsters) living on the planet. Takahashi adds that while as an artist Kazama has a delicate touch, as a person is is a pretty muscular macho dude. Lol.

Kazama did the NA reversible cover art right? Really like that. Too bad this tine that's not possible with Club Nintendo codes printed on the inside of the covers. He's doing monsters and alien NPC's.

As for the other artist I liked the Sin & Punishment 2 artwork a lot. Though in this case he's designing mech.

It's going to be fascinating seeing all these different artists work I various alien fractions and mechs. Its adds to the sense of the alien by having these different species be designed by different artists.

I'm very glad Takahashi has seemed to continue to branch out with this game with its multiple, visually distinct alien races. Something not seen in his past titles.

Thanks again for the translation.

Really like how 'personnal' this account is, compared to Splatoon's. Different kind of information, but as interesting imo.

That being said, I wonder why they have yet to upload anything significant on their official non-official website. I wouldn't mind some monsters showcase to begin with.

It seems like Takahashi is a natural leader. He has a talent for commanding different artists. I'm still amazed by the fact that Xenoblade's soundtrack was composed by six people, because the whole thing sounds very consistent.

According to Legend... Takahashi mauled them daily with a whip.

To the point his mails were never direct, they went through a coworker who tried to reword whatever he's written in a softer fashion.

Really should go and read the IA for Xenoblade (there's one, right?).

Shame we're not going to get one for XCX :(

Especially since they were so adamant about opening it early by themselves!

Yes, read them! There's, like, three of them even! :D

The pic on the first page reminds me how much I want ACE+ back for XCX. Got nothing against Sawano, but I hope he's just doing the story-side of the soundtrack.

Can't see him compose music as iconic the one for Gaur Plains or the marsh area (don't remember the name) in XC, or the battle themes. Those were fantastic.

You're probably right, but i think this game will have an entirely different type of music throughout. Xenoblade Chronicles had music that, even when it was upbeat, was always kind of reflective and sad - especially those nighttime themes. The story really lent itself to those types of melodies and arrangements, too since so much of it focused on remembering your past, your hometown, your friends and what your world used to be like, etc.

This new game is about forging a future and discovery (as far as I can tell). So I think it will have a more swashbuckling science fiction-meets-Jurassic Park style soundtrack.

All remains to be seen, though.

Considering they have dedicated artists designing for specific factions exclusively and considering the scale of this game, isn't it quite likely that they are going to do the same for the music across the game world, etc? I don't think it's feasible for Sawano to create what probably amounts to a four disc soundtrack again all by himself.

Yeah, that's quite a lot for one composer... especially for one that seems to be composing the soundtrack for 2 animes each season.

Yeah, I dont doubt that Sawano is pairing with other musicians, hell Xenoblade had like the whole ACE (that is 4 people if I remember right), Shimomura and Mitsuda working on it.

Xenoblade composers:
Manami Kiyota
ACE+ = Tomori Kudo, Hiroyo "CHiCO" Yamanaka, Kenji Hiramatsu (the latter being the "+")
Yoko Shimomura

Mitsuda only did the ending song.

Everyone forgets Manami Kiyota despite her doing a majority of the songs lol. Pretty sad.

Notice how that's three ladies and three guys?
