Xenosaga III - PS2 or PS3?

ManaByte

So does anyone think Namco will push Xenosaga III to PS3 or keep it on the PS2 to be slaughtered by FFXII?

I think PS3 has a very good chance of getting it.

I really wish I could care, but after ep2 all I can really say to this is "lol"

And it's PS2, one of the voice actors already let it slip that he was working on the game, so I seriously doubt it's PS3....

If they continue on, there will eventually be a next-gen Xenogears remake.

Not exactly.

And who cares? Why would you want them to remake a classic game in a shitty series.

Yep, it's been mentioned time and again that both are independant. Though they may share concepts, character likenesses and such don't believe for a second that a Xenosaga Episode 5 would in any way resemble Xenogears.

Xenosaga 3 for PS3 with the original casts returning for the win.

"And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last."

This page is a summary of FAQ section that was once temporarily placed due to hundreds of inquiries arising from unexpected media coverages of Jan/18/2005 about Soraya's leaving Xenosaga series. Answers were offered only for the purpose of clearing so many misunderstandings. Soraya and this site have no intention of announcing the answers loudly.

1. Soraya noted "Soraya has quit this series. No questions please." in very small fonts on her job history page in this site January 1st, 2005. She used the word "quit" for "to depart from", but not for "to abandon". It was simply her current job status.

2. January 19, 2005 morning (JST), Soraya received some threatening E-mails from upset people. Mails accused Soraya as if she were the traitor, deserter deserved to die.

3. Soraya wondered how the situation suddenly happend. An E-mail from North America has kindly let her know that several game-news sites reported her leaving. Some of those sites brought somewhat misleading views, without any confirmation of the facts.

4. Soraya decided to give answers to most frequently questions. The following are the summary of answers.

Leaving was not Soraya's decision. Soraya was told goodbye same as in the case of other Episode I artists including Mr. Yasunori Mitsuda, Mr. Kunihiko Tanaka, and the Mr. you-know-who. (Please do not ask Soraya who he is.)
Soraya is a freelance artist.
There was no particular reason behind the displacement of old artists. The new director of Xenosaga II/III just wants the saga all new.
The official advertisement says the new saga will have new sounds, new designs (as seen in Epsode II) and more easier story to read (as seen in the disc 2 of the Episode II).
Soraya and Tetsuya Takahashi were marginally involved in the Episode II by contributing the first version of the script. (It was not a plot outline but a complete script including actual characters' lines.)
Soraya's last contribution to the saga was the first version of the script for the Episode II and rewrites of The Pied Piper. (The game for Vodafone sold in Japan 2004)
The shortened/adapted script of the Episode II is by Monolithsoft.
You can see Soraya's mark she left to the Episode II in:
The conversation between Juli and Ziggy
Momo Encephalon (In first version, It was not Juli's idea of destroying Momo's memory, but a subcommitteeman's. Juli hesitated.)
The story about U.R.T.V. (with the exception of the chapters after Momo Encephalon and young Albedo's verbal abuse/violent acts against Sakura. They were added by Monolithsoft.)
Albedo's short speech about the higher dimension. (His last words "You look like you lost your sweetheart ... anyway I hate you both" were added by Monolithsoft.)
Soraya doesn't know what the story of the Episode III will be like. The new writer of the Episode III will write a new story in his style. (The chapters after Momo Encephalon and Disc 2 are his style.)
The new team has the right to change or ignore Takahashi's plot outline.
Soraya and Takahashi have been willing to help the new team if requested.
Soraya can not comment on Takahashi's current status.
Soraya wrote approximately half of of the script for the Episode I. She is responsible for:
Ziggy and his family, Voyager, Momo, Mizrahis, Godwins, Yuriev, U.R.T.V.s, and the part of Shion during her stay in Durandal and the Kookai Foundation
Soraya is not an expensive artist.
Soraya has created no delay.
The parent company is not responsible to the changeover.
The Episode II had the same amount of budget as the Episode I.
The first version of the script by Soraya and Takahashi was not religiously or politically sensitive. It had just harmless chapters like:
Ziggy's past history (as seen in The Pied Piper)
U.R.T.V.'s past history (as seen in the Episode II)
Shion's past history with Febronia (removed)
Jr's rapid growing (removed)
Both juvenile and grown-up Jr. switching available in the battle (removed)
The ghost of the old Miltia (removed)
The death of Sakura (removed)
Brief reunion with grown-up Citrine (removed)
Gaignun vs Zohar emulators (removed)
Jr.'s transformation/overdrive (removed)
Jr. & Albedo vs U-DO vs KOS-MOS 3rd armament (removed)
Shion's spiritual seeking/witnessing/awakening (removed)
The truth about KOS-MOS (removed)
Conversation between chaos and the red cloak man (removed)
Conversation between Nephilim and the boy with the blocks (removed)
An antimatter annihilation of Albedo (removed)
Removed chapter/events were rejected/deleted subjects. It's highly unlikely to be shown in the future Episode.
Soraya has no intention of playing for attention. No one has to pay attention to this.
Soraya has no option to come back. And she knows well the saga no longer needs Saga.
A message from Soraya

Thank you all who sent us heartwarming messages. I loved the Xeno universe and its wonderful fan base, that's what I'll miss the most. Forget about good old days and enjoy whole new saga.

Best wishes.

I could see it on the PS2 for a couple of reasons.....

1) From the way things look, the PS2 is definitely still on the Namco's radar

2) Xenosaga seems to be a big investment for Namco

i dont see why they would suddenly scrap the ps2 version and make a more demanding PS3 version that will probably cost a fuckload to make. plus there's a bigger userbase on ps2.

didnt episode 2 sell like shit too?

Well I'm absolutely loving the story and the characters, and despite what people may think of Episode I and II so far, I've enjoyed them immensely and even if they don't touch Xenogears at all, I do hope they finish out the story.

In any case, I think PS2 is more likely. PS3 would presumably require new models, etc., and that's probably not too likely since they're probably re-using a lot of assets from the previous episodes.

Also, I'd say Xenosaga's target audience is, uh, people who aren't really into games (to put it politely :P) and who probably won't be early PS3 adopters. It'd make more sense to release the game on PS2.

whoa what... I thought that the Xenosaga serious took place like 4 thousand years or something before the Xenogears games????

Why would they even mention something like this without getting to work with the rest of the parts then? :/

For the same reason the original Star Wars said it was epIV way before prequels were ever considered?

Xenogears and Xenosaga are essentially similar, but Xenogears is owned by Square so Xenosaga cannot use the same storyline.

Xenogears (the game) was supposedly chapter 5 in the Xenogears story (see Perfect Works), so people think Xenosaga Episode 5 will be a remake of Xenogears (the game). I don't think it's going to happen like that, though, because of copyright and other issues.

Meh, it's just a giant tease. ;(
And btw, why did they begin with episode 5? Why not start with...episode 1?

Wait...so the Xenosaga games are still based on the original ideas for the complete Xenogears storyline, but not in a too obvious way as to avoid conflicts about copyright and similar?

They're loosely based on some backstory elements created for Xenogears, yes. "Loosely" not only for copyright reasons, but also simply because the designers' ideas changed in the intervening years (of course now that the original scenario writers are off the project and the new team has apparently decided to abandon the original story outline and go off in a different direction altogether, future episodes will presumably have even less in common with the XG backstory)

I'm probably the only one who enjoyed Episode 2 more than Episode 1. Haven't finished 2, though, got stuck on the last boss, and then had to return the rental.

Same reason Star Wars started with Ep4: because it was considered the most interesting to turn into a single project. I don't know whether Takahashi conceived of 5 first and built the rest around it as he went along or whether he built the saga linearly and then decided to create 5 as a game, but if you play Xenogears, there are references in the backstory to episodes 3 (the intro) and 4 (Nisan war) of the Xenogears storyline.

Wait...so the Xenosaga games are still based on the original ideas for the complete Xenogears storyline, but not in a too obvious way as to avoid conflicts about copyright and similar?

"Inspired by" is probably more appropriate than "based on". Since a different team is now responsible for further development of the franchise, we may well see the storyline progress according to a plan that Namco considers more profitable than the original outline for Xenosaga. In other words, don't expect anything like a "Xenogears remake" if the Xenosaga series ever does reach episode 5.

Based on all the trouble that has gone on within Monolith Soft since the completion of Episode 1 and the decline in sales with Episode 2, I'm betting Namco will just spend a nice chunk of change on Episode 3 to make a very large game, and tell the team to wrap up the storyline and finish the series. I'll be very surprised if the series continues on beyond this third installment; I just hope they give us all the answers about the storyline.

It's a real shame too about Takahashi getting removed from the team, or at least demoted to supervisor or whatever BS actually happened. I've even heard that the new writers aren't even obligated to use Takahashi's massive outline that he created way back when Xenogears was being planned. The man almost singlehandedly created this mythos, and it sucks that he won't get a chance to finish. Though after what happened with Square, and now with Namco, I'm sure Takahashi is sick of this problematic franchise, and just wants it over and done with so he can move on.
