Yakuza 0 |OT| Yes, you can start with this one!

It was insane looking up the platinum cabaret girls and finding out that they are hardcore pornstars.

The majority of women you meet in sidequests are. From the inept dominatrix, to the arcade girls, all the way down to the women that asks you to pretend to be her one eyed, pony-tail wearing boyfriend in front of her father.

I finally managed to grab that last doll and finished the doll girl's story. Really nice little story; it actually made it worth doing the damn UFO Catcher.

After all of these games I've gotten mahjong down decently. Scoring is really the biggest thing that's gotten in my way, but I've got a lot of the big hands down by this point. And mahjong is usually one of my most played minigames in the series.

Every game I make another attempt at shogi, but I always wind up falling well short. This time I at least made it like 2/3rds of the way into the lowest difficulty opponent before I completely self-destructed, so maybe next time?

I tried watching different tutorial about mahjong but yet, when im in the game, I don't know how to play still.

On another note: do we have numbers of sales from this game?

Does anyone know if the soundtrack has the substory songs? I love them and really want to just crank out one every once in awhile, like the mr libido creep song for example lol

Yeah, Mah Jong is now my most played mini game outside of 0's and 6's arcade titles, its incredibly addictive now I have the basics down.

I think my issue with Shogi is that I just don't understand what the tiles are and how they move. I need to start from scratch again and try to learn it all over again. Still not confident that I'll learn it but I'm willing to try again!

Well after 156 hours, the main story completed on hard, the cabaret club completely done and fully staffed by max level platinum and gold hostesses, and 4 of 5 Billionaires defeated I'm finally putting this game on the shelf for Breath of the Wild.

I could have easily played another 50 hours more and were it not for Kiwami coming soon I would have certainly returned to finish things off in the summer. I'm so grateful to this thread and others on this forum that convinced me to finally take a chance on this series. What a fucking video game this is.

Thanks for the help everybody!

Finally beat it last night. May have cried a little. I wasn't expecting the game to tie everything together so perfectly into a sad little bow. It all plays so incredibly well into Yakuza 1. I also had the biggest goddamn smile on my face during the end-credits scene. I haven't really enjoyed a modern Yakuza game plot since 2, but 0 has now completely dominated the franchise as my favorite plot and game in the series.

Does anyone have a youtube link to what I can only describe as the chill conversation guitar track? You hear it in most of the substories, such as this one.

I finally tried to take on Club Jupiter last night. The first cabaret battle was easy, so I was overconfident and got my ass handed to me. I didn't realize they'd be throwing out
special attacks...how are you supposed to defend against something that saps all the HP from your hostesses?

And because she's actually modeled after and voiced by a real hostess I believe, as compared to the others who are all JAV models.

Ah, I didn't know that, I thought someone here said Yuki's character model was completely made up, and only the voice was a real hostess.

Beat this last night.

Clock was at about 26 hours.

Stuck to the story after chapter 6 or so, didn't really mess with the
real estate mini game of the club mini game.
9/10 amazing game. Can't recommend it enough. I will be upset if this game is not recognized in discussions for best story during game of year talks from the various outlets.

Best way to circumvent the effects of that is to just level up your Hostesses so they do not get as effected as much. Also it is good if you can recruit some Gold Hostesses if possible. But you have seen nothing yet wait till you reach Club Moon that is where the real challenge is.

Make sure you give gifts to your girls as much as possible. If you do that and get the hand signals right when they shout sumimasen you won't have as much trouble. Both of those things do a lot to restore your girls' energy.

When I finally got around to Club Moon, I had annihilated them without any issue. I did a lot of practice runs and made sure I had bought partnerships with all of the businesses in the neighborhood so that helped.

Yar, quick reaction to hand signals is a life-saver

I just reached the moment in the final chapter where the game straight up warns you that you're about to head into the endgame.

That's enough for tonight; I'll sit down tomorrow and dedicate my full attention to finishing the story. Once I've hit the finale I'll hopefully be able to figure out if 0 has beaten my first Yakuza game, 4, as my favourite of the franchise.

Make sure to have at least a couple of free hours before starting the final part. Also there is a post credit scene, so be sure to not miss that :)

At chapter 10. Feel a bit burned out by the series, unfortunately. I thought it was just because Y5 was so regular slice of life, but I'm kinda bored by the formula. I hope Y6 mixes it up, but I'm scared of another story with very little yakuzas.

The chapters seem shorter so I'll probably stick it out. Not sure about getting Y:K though.

Yeah, I'm a sharpshooter with the hand signals at this point so that's not an issue, and I gave 1m yen in gifts during the battle, but my problem was some of the hostesses were blasted to 0hp. I wanted to get back to the story, but I think you're right that I need to just level them up more first before I can take on Jupiter.

Finished it tonight, I think this is my favorite of the Yakuza games. Granted I've only played a little of 2, but I've played most of the others to completion. The characters are fantastic, it focuses on all the elements I enjoy about the series most, and the plotline was completely gripping. The main plot didn't have as many of the contrived moments that always tend to take some of the believability out of things, though there were still a few. The humor was on point in the sub-missions. I would say the biggest knock against the game is how much of a drag Kiryu's big real estate sub-story is, especially since it's the only way to unlock a lot of combat options and to be able to reasonably afford upgrading your characters to their full potential.

Yakuza 0/1/Kiwami Spoilers
I think a lot of elements of this game seriously enhance the characters in Yakuza 1. Nishiki in particular feels like a much stronger character after you get to see his relationship with Kiryu in this game. It's actually made me even more excited to play Kiwami and envious of the newcomers to the series who will be able to go into that game without any knowledge of it.

One thing that did bother me about the story.

Once again, spoilers for Yakuza 0/1/Kiwami
I was really hoping that by the end of this game we would get to see Majima 'snap' and transition from the roughneck, but still pretty reasonable and grounded guy we see in this game, into the character he is in Yakuza 1. That doesn't really happen though, instead it seems like after the events of this game he just decides to model himself after Nishitani, and while I liked Nishitani as a character I find that less compelling as a backstory for Majima. I do feel as if as he's gained more popularity the devs have toned down the more violent and insane aspects of his character to make him less of the sociopath he is in Yakuza 1 and into more of a 'loose cannon' rival for Kiryu. Looking forward to getting to enjoy more crazy Majima in Kiwami though.

Finished the main story yesterday and absolutely loved it. I gotta say, as much as I like Kiryu, Majima really stole the show.

Gonna go back to it to get the final platinum hostess and do more stupid sidequests XD before heading to Ishin.

Can't wait for Kiwami!! (And I would kill for a remake of the 2nd one).

Beat the game yesterday nite, overslept a bit because ending kept on going. But it was worth it. This story runs circles around everything I played on PS4 yet. The Witcher ends on a rushed note and doesn't develop its bad guy. FFXV, lets not go there at all.

Yakuza 0 story kept me hooked from its beginning to the end. Every single one character I saw was perfect. Every bad guy gets just enough screen time and development. There is one thing I don't like about a major character and the game can't help it,

Majima. We know the guy is insane. But in Y0 he isn't yet and I actually think this version is the best character in the franchise (both in terms of personality and design). But he needed to become insane because he is in Y1 onwards. The reason for him becoming insane aren't that convincingly told. He's sick of being used as a tool and saw the most crazy guys die too soon but live life the fullest. He sort of becomes deliberately insane, he chooses this path.

It's important to remember that while
he is "crazy", it's not in a Joker style "everything I do is convoluted and just to fuck with people". It could have been better developed but I still thought that it was fitting. He spent so long doing what others told him for the sake of his sworn brother, and the path that he's on is basically a path of atonement, so he can make up for having Saejima take the fall for his actions (which he's not even the one to blame for but he believes Saejima holds a grudge). The only reason he endures the punishment, that he bows down before his boss and he does so much for his Clan is for his BROTHER's sake and not for his.

But by the end of Yakuza 0, he's like "well I'm gonna be in this life anyway, and so many people have fucked me over that I'm not gonna let that happen to me anymore! Imma do what I want! "

By the end of Yakuza 4, he's one of THE major players in the Tojo Clan, and is a possible candidate for Chairman of the Tojo should anything happen to Daigo. You don't get that way by being crazy and not giving a shit. He's mainly only crazy when it comes to fighting and when it comes to the people he likes most. If he wants something, he goes for it but he still maintains a sense of honour, family, loyalty and duty which always comes first despite that craziness that he just lets loose when he feels like it.

That's one of the reasons why Majima's craziness "works" is because he can still be serious and still stick to the task at hand. There have been a lot of crazy characters in fiction and the biggest hole a lot of them tend to fall into is being crazy just for the heck of it. Playing the role of the wildcard a bit too much, a problem that I don't think Majima has ever suffered from.

And the only person that he's really and truly CRAZY with is always Kiryu, and there is an EARNED sense of mutual respect between the two which is further grown by the events of Yakuza 0. Heck, he's one of the only allies Kiryu has in Yakuza 3. It's basically a game of "You know we're gonna do what you want but first, LET's get this party started!" that Kiryu endulges Majima in, it's almost like a "Batman always letting the Joker do his crazy schemes because he's kinda crazy himself" in some small way.

I'm still in Chapter 10 just dicking around with real estate and training, haha. The plot's starting to thicken but this game is so great. Maybe I'll go through and enjoy the story now and really do the time-wastey stuff on NG+.

Also, Miss Tatsu's battle theme is so, so good.

How would you rate this platinum compared to the other games in the series? I only barely managed to get the platinums for 3, 4 and dead souls. I gave up on 5 because of boredom in the battle arena.

How would you rank it?

Leveled up my hostesses a couple times and took on the Jupiter club again. Demolished them this time, 44m in sales to 19m.

One thing I did differently this time: I used to think that the club area customer hint (i.e. likes sexy girls who party hard) meant that you should only put those kinds of hostesses on your staff when targeting that area. Wrong. While that will be an emphasis, clients with other tastes will still come in, so I made sure to have a couple hostesses to satisfy men who like really cute or funny women.

Another strategy I employed – and I don't know if this will have long-term negative impacts – was that I previously always gave a customer a hostess, even if all of the available hostesses made them unhappy or angry. I decided to just not give those customers a hostess at all, and after a few seconds they'd leave. That prevented my hostesses from taking an HP hit from being in a no-win situation, and kept them available for someone they would be compatible with.

This seams like a good approach for the club battles. I wouldn't bother doing this in a normal run where I'm just trying to make money. I'd rather hope that they need something or cause trouble to try to boost their mood for when they return. Also, if you have a fever time ready or almost ready, I'd put them in and wait a bit to activate it for them. Then their mood doesn't matter.

how do you make money as majima? I just noticed he doesn't have the shakedown perk.
The money earnings from the clubs seem paltry even if they scale as I beat down other clubs. What can I expect in the end? Like 200 million every session? Seems so small in comparison to how expensive upgrades are.
