Yakuza 0 |OT| Yes, you can start with this one!

It wants you to be better at dodging and avoiding attacks or even just blocking. There is a point where spamming will punish you but just a little.

Sure, it just seems overtly punishing when there are groups and the second you get up you are knocked down relentlessly. No real problems fighting bosses or Mr. Shakedown, etc. Guess I'll play around with different fighting styles and adjust accordingly.

Just a heads up: If you see a Mr. Shakedown and want to fight him, but don't want to risk losing all your money - just run to a save point and save. He won't disappear after the process is complete.

Speaking of save points, if you're being chased by thugs on the street, using a phone booth will stop them from following you.

TAKE DOWN MR. SHAKEDOWN!

I woke up to
~ Wow, breeaaaakin' the laawwwwww / breeaaakin' the woorrrld ~
in my head today. I've got a yakuza problem.

I did the intro to Ch. 3 last night. I'm never a big fan of switching between multiple protagonists in stories, and it feels weird that they set up Nishiki to be your bro but didn't use him. So far it doesn't seem like Majima even knows Kiyru. I can see why they did that from a gameplay POV, it's a good plot device to open up another area of city, but it feels a bit disjointed to suddenly jump to him. I'm sure there's other reasons to use him because of future narratives in the sequels, but this is my first Yakuza and it feels a bit random.

p.s. do food items ever expire or get stolen? I had bought an orange from a convenience store, and a couple hours later it was gone from my inventory.

I think there's a heat action that uses the orange.

Is there a good side quest guide people here are using/recommend?

Just started Chapter 2 with Kazuma, still super early in the game. When is a good time to just cruise the town and look for side stuff to do? Been looking for stuff while doing the main story and havent seen anything yet, I assume itll become clear soon but dont want to progress to far and miss something.

Everybody say ROUUUUGE OF LOVE

The tax lady side quest OMG

Master Daigo ! Awww what a fucking brat

If you're in Chapter 2 you'll be almost certain to find your first batch of substories from wandering around the streets a little. If you've literally just started the chapter, you may need to progress the plot just a tiny bit first for this to happen.

Wait, what? It'll just automatically use it from the inventory? I didn't even know that was a thing.

Yeah, I if I recall correctly, I got an orange from one of the vending machines and later on I did a heat action where I'm pretty sure I shoved it in a guys mouth then punched him to the ground and turned him into a juicer. After that I no longer had the orange in my inventory.

Can confirm this happened to me too and it was awesome.

I'm about 70% complete and hitting that burnout spot. Kiryu has two substories left, Majima is less than a dozen (plus the cabaret grind). After that, it's just the gambling minigames, climax battles, and arena.

I might just put this on hold so I can finally start DW: Godseekers and Berseria.

Yeah I dont know whats up, but i find the street fights annoying as fuck at times. Played the first 4 chapters no problem with both majima and kiryu, beating thugs up left and right. But now in chapter 5, playing kiryu again im getting my ass handed to me in street encounters.
No matter the style, enemies are always faster than me and stunlock me for 10 hits straight and come at me from
All sides. So i try to dodge them and strike, but before i manage to land a single hit I get hit from a thug and then end up being stunlocked again.
For some reason enemies seem way more agressive and quick on Kiryu

Check what gear you have equipped. You may have equipped the Charismatic Autobiography item, which makes enemies super-aggressive.

Like I said, Completion points. You get a completion point for sampling every dish, eating at restaurants 20/30/50 times, drinking, traveling, dashing etc.

Accumulate enough Completion Points and you can exchange them at temples for bonuses such as unlimited dashing speed, more money from enemies, more playboys walking the streets for you to rob etc
Exactly why CP are worth it. The bonuses are not measly.

Ah, this may be it. Thanks for pointing this out, I was having the same problem but will report back and see if it improves. Haven't had issues prior in Hard mode. Cheers.

He gets like 5000 and I can only get 4000 at best. Keep psyching myself out on the timing also.

His score has a pretty big (just over a thousand) deviance, so just keep trying and popping dance fever. As long as you get two or three of those off, you'll be fine assuming he doesn't get a perfect run.

Also, Ogita
shows back up again in Yakuza 5 except you can kick his ass the second time.

What weight bowling ball does everyone use? Or is it more about using them for certain situations?

Edit: Okay, got the turkey with the guide method. Very nice! Red ball, go all the way to the right, aim a bit left and let it rip!

Holy shit at the Chapter 4 ending.
Been a while since game has made feel so bad for someone, and of course it then ends in a cliffhanger.
I was already enjoying the game, but that chapter ending just elevated the game to new a whole new level for me.

I'm struggling to put my finger on why this game feels more like Red Dead Redemption to me than any open world game I've played since then (aside from the obvious GTA comparison).

Bloody hell, wandering into the Champion District and rounding a corner to see Mr. Shakedown slowly strolling down a narrow alley towards Kiryu was unexpectedly terrifying. He's like the fucking Nemesis from RE3.

I really enjoyed all the story scenes at the end of that chapter. (The escort mission in between them was a bit annoying, but that's another matter.) The introduction of a blind character was used to build some really great tension in the scenes in the massage clinic. Some of the best cutscenes I've seen in the Yakuza series.

I know that Kiryu is at his fertile peak at this game at like 20yo but geez this is easily the raunchiest of the series.

LOVE this game so far. Dope Yakuza crime story, nice graphics, etc. What I specifically dig is all the Sega nostalgia. Not just the arcade mini games, but the game itself. It feels so, unmistakably, Sega. A bit of Shenmue with some streets of Rage combat and a soundtrack that recalls the dreamcast era at times.

My hype for Yakuza 6 is through the roof now, especially since it features Beat Takeshi as a main character. I kinda wanna jump into it ASAP lol. How important would you say it is that I play the rest of the series before playing 6? Would I be in the dark regarding a good portion of the story if I jumped from 0 to (maybe) the remake of 1 to 6?

People are roughly as strange as the strangers in RDR. Well. Thereabouts.

Wow! Really enjoying the story at the end of chapter 4 (
cliffhanger nooo
).

Gameplay wise, just decided to truck through

And the Sega blue skies. Kiryu even looks like a Sega character, a bit like Ryo from Shenmue. Which is a bit weird because so many of the characters in this game look like real people, but then Kiryu (and to an extent Majima) still looks like a videogame character.

LMAO @ Kiryu's real estate activity before the fight with 4th billionaire.
Marina is so in love with him, hahaha.

Yeah, I'm exactly the same. He does crazy amount of extra steps. Like at the result screen he has close to a hundred steps more than me.

Well, other Yakuza games are pretty amazing as well (especially 4 which is my favorite) but I don't think you'll be lost that much if you go with Y0 -> Kiwami -> Y6. Just make sure you play Kiwami (Yakuza 1 Remake) as well, cause it introduces a character that's very important in Yakuza 6 and its plot.

So I'm struggling a bit with this game, folks. As background, I had similar issues with Yakuza 3, fiddled with Yakuza 2 on PS2, and haven't tried any others. I bought this one because of substantial reviews and the lack of need for background.

- It feels.. very budget. The cutscene visuals look like what I would expect from a ps4 game (or a late Ps3 game) but the in game visuals are a bit off putting, particularly in off-street environments (ie when you're in office buildings etc).
- It feels really clunky. The save system, the fighting mechanics, the loading screens, the seemingly random decision as to whether to voice a cutscene or not... it all just seems really unpolished.
- the fighting system seems shallow
- the initial few hours are pretty dry. I'm assuming it picks up - I'm at the part where
Kiryu is considering whether to ally himself with the shady real estate company and is looking for information.

Are these common concerns when getting accustomed to the series? I really want to like it - and in many ways I do, given its pretty enormous charm - but I'm not sure I want to play a game for charm alone. Should I push forward?
