Enemies with guns especially on the Finale on hard mode are insane...

Just finished up and it's definitely my favorite Yakuza game so far.

I enjoyed the Majima chapters a lot more than Kiryu's.

Just finished Ch.4, amazing, now really intrigued by the story, can't wait to see where it goes, I had an "oh no" moment, when it turned out to be an escort mission, but it wasn't too bad.

Ha, I just finished it also and had the opposite reaction... I can't stand escort missions. I can't imagine even doing that one without the breaker style. I mean in the end it was emotional, but the videogamey feel of the escort stuff distracted from that. That fight with
her boss
was pretty tough. I couldn't figure out a style that was very successful with him, especially in the second half.

Man, loved that fight, I brutalized him with thug and smashed his head to pieces with the heat moves using the stools!

Thankfully, the escort mission was short, although I did have to replay the last fight against the mobs a few times.

They used up most of my health items. Got fuckin spanked by them in the finale.

Was left with 2 Stamina Royales for the final boss fight, managed to just about do it!

OH DUDE! Majima Substory (and I guess Yakuza 2) spoilers:

Have made the jump and have bought this game. I've not played any of the previous games before, and am looking forward to jumping in.

If I enjoy this (which I hope I will), I will pick up Yakuza Kiwami when it's released later this year. That said, while waiting for Kiwami to be released, would I be able to play Yakuza 4 and 5 (they were a part of PS+ in the past) without getting lost/confused? Or is it suggested that I go back and play the previous games first?

You'll be fine playing the numbered series after this and Kiwami. Anything that previous games gave to Zero are a few nods here and there. See the image posted above you. :)

You won't feel lost at all, the series has some common characters but it's very self contained.

Is it possible to miss anything (trophy / item) for retrying?
Was forced to use one at the end of chapter 4 due to the npc.
Did not want to repeat that entire section a third time.

There are 8 missable trophies in the whole game that revolve around doing certain things on certain chapters - storyline missions only

It's recommended to make a spare save at the start of each chapter just incase you miss one.

Other than that - all the rest you can do whenever. All substories, all completion stuff etc...

what's the best way to handle money battles in the real estate minigame? Just put in enough to win, or keep all the stars? I've been letting it drain down, but I only got 1% share of the area afterwards and I heard that money battles were the way to get more %.

I can't beat the second stage in Outrun no matter how many times I try so the 5 million requirement wasn't happening. But I need to make up percentage in the electronics king's area somehow.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
My total game time has reached 8 hours and I still haven't completed chapter 2, too busy doing side quests and having dance offs. Finally managed to beat the disco king after 25 attempts lol.

Chose the white one because it was smaller and
got a baseball shirt.
What does the black one have?

Where can you see your played time?

Bottom right of the screen when you go into your menu. I am currently on 82 hours played.

You only get 1% regardless. Best way to increase shares is to buy and invest in the businesses. You get easily to 100% that way and you only need 90% to trigger his finale fight.

How to beat ogita, disco king ?

I tried everything : I even deal better combos than him I take risk and I make more steps, I don't miss notes, I use Fever when he does and he stills get more points... He always as TWICE my steps... I can't compete against a machine

8:45 Hours in, started Chapter 3 and yup...that was an incredible intro.

Also: I knew that the city scale was much smaller in Yakuza, but I'm still surprised it is THIS small, but... I love it. I absolutely love it.

How do you guys unlock the disco challenges against Ogita and other NPCs? I have completed every song in easy and normal (90+ score always) with Kiryu and the only time a NPC challenged me was when I first played the minigame, but nothing else so far

You need to get at least 1 d-pad QTE, but preferably 2, go for good combo and hope he doesn't have a 6k+ run, took me about 20 attempts on easy, to beat him by less than a hundred, he still had double my step, but a bad combo.

Walk out and go back in, should be a women by the bar, talk to her. When done with you next opponent leave and enter again.

Yeah, I need tips for Majima's, too. That's all I have left for him.

Is there a point to catching rare fish? I did find a sidequest that needed fish, but regular plain old ones worked just fine.

ah so whoever said that was full of shit. But yeah I own every building in the area so I'll just keep investing.

I'd really like to know where I can find someone with a double circle in restaurants. But I suppose I can just keep plugging away at sidequests.

GOT HIM

went with your advise : focus on combo rather than steps, and the last part has many patterns I wasn't confortable with so I went for the second fever there.

5800 pts for me, 5300 for him

IN YOUR FACE IM THE NEW DISCO KIIIING

Just realized there's a bar inside the disco, what's wrong with me lol Thanks!

Yeah, I ended up having success with the square/square/square/triangle combo in slugger style on single targets works out well (the nunchuk move) because it ends up being so many hits in rapid succession that they can't break out of it easily. After doing the fight with
Kuze
with only one health item and having to restart like a dozen times to beat him, I've felt a distinct decrease in difficulty, but that might just be because I decided to start being smart and stocking a lot more health items.

Anyone know of a good guide for Majima's Cabaret Club Business (both the minigame and world aspects)? I'm a little lost and overwhelmed by it compared to Kiryu's property management.

This is my first Yakuza game and I absolutely love it. I purchased Yakuza 3 and 4 used a couple days ago (I have Yakuza 5 digitally from PS+). I'll play Kiwami when that releases. Still haven't decided if I'm going to play the PS2 version of Yakuza 2 or wait for a possible remake.

How the hell are you beating OutRun? I can barely get into the second area before the timer runs out...

some general tips
- if you wait too long to shift from LOW -> HIGH you'll spin your tires a bit, losing acceleration for a moment. try to shift right when the 3rd green bar is full.
- you don't need to use your break or to stop accelerating at all during the first stage. You can drift through every turn. My time for the first stage is usually 58' or 59'.
- ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be patient when dealing with traffic. if you have to slow down for a second or two before you can find an opening, that is LEAGUES better than getting into an unnecessary car wreck.
- if you're in a turn and you see another turn sign, you're probably going to need to slow down.

It is possible to complete OutRun even if you get into a wreck. try to not get frustrated and play very attentively.

/edit/

OutRun spoilers (lol)

Unless its against an opponent with a chance of comeback. Had that happen to me twice - both easy "wins" then comeback kicked in and I lost.

Honestly I swear the catfiights are rigged anyway. Getting that trophy will be a nightmare.

The AI cheats, that's for sure. It took me forever to beat that damn mini game 10 times for the trophy. Its just a matter of patience and you'll get it in the end. Keep in mind you can continue smashing the cheer button after you successfully guess the correct attack to power your attack up.

Why would you need to fight during the escort mission. You can sneak and only have to fight at the end.

What are you struggling with. I found it overwhelming at first before I realized the timer stops while you select a girl.
