If you're gunning for the platinum trophy anyway (which requires 3 playthroughs), this isn't as big a loss.

Haruka's inventory is separate from the guys in a new game, but in Premium NG and onwards, everyone is working with a unified stash..

So unless you're trying to get the 100% trophy in your first playthrough, I would say try avoiding the keys as Haruka but don't sweat it if you pick up a few
Only two play throughs are required. I'm wrapping up everything in my fist normal run now. All most finished... But that damn Pachinko!
before the day cycle events
. Once completed, I will move directly to new game plus on the hardest difficultly for the platinum.

I'm loving this taxi minigame. When do I get stuff to pimp my taxi with?

Just finished this game today. I focused only on story.

I wonder how big is this game? I am finished on easy: 35 hours 37 minutes, completion...5.96%.

What????
I've been playing for 170 hours and I'm just over 50%.
All the gambling and casino - done!
All city and locker room stuff - done!
All arcade and fishing stuff - done.

I just have food, Pachinko, weapons and Karaoke..... I think. :(

The story amounts to pretty much nothing completion wise - the % completion focuses on different heat moves used, all food eaten, all mini games completed, all city unique objectives complete, all arena tournaments complete with different characters etc.
You can view the completion menu from the in game pause menu to see what you've done and what you need to do :)

Haha thanks, it seems I won't continue the game...170 hours is beyond the end for my holiday and I have a lot of backlogs, lol.

Finished this game over Christmas break. It was the first Yakuza game I had played but I watched the reminiscence videos so that I had a gist of the story up till now. Beat it on normal and it took me 71 hours to beat the story and do all the side stories.

I absolutely loved it. The world actually felt full for me unlike a lot of other rpgs that I've played recently like Dragon Age. The side quests were fleshed out enough that each one felt like it had a purpose and the plethora of mini-games kept the game fresh.

Fighting off regular enemies was great especially with all the different heat actions there are to finish them off. Bosses weren't so fun to fight because they had a tendency to not flinch when hit, break combos early, and instantly break out of grabs. To beat them I'd be forced to use items which I didn't really like doing when I was in the middle of an action movie-esque battle, it would kinda kill the moment.

While the cutscenes could drag on for a while I actually really liked them, they felt sort of like Metal Gear cutscenes. I was surprised by how much I ended up liking all of the characters, especially Haruka. I have no idea how to describe it but she absolutely won me and the end scene where
all the other main characters come together at the bar order to figure out how to protect her concert
was perfect for me.

In time I plan on going back and playing the earlier games but for now I need a break. I hope that Yakuza 1 & 2 get put on the PS4. If there's one thing I want from any future games it's a female protagonist that can get into street fights.

You can live vicariously through this video at least

Oh, random thought: I hope in Yakuza 6 assuming it has multiple characters again that at the end when all 4 meet up you can have them all sing karaoke together. This is clearly the next step the Yakuza series needs to take.

170 hours sound unnatural. i'm at under 50% with 80+ hours.

I ordered a new hard drive for my fat 60gb ps3 since I don't have enough free space once it arrives this game is getting my money. Shame there was no physical release.

With Saejima he has a hunting subquest for selling a fox skin. I've sold dozens to this guy since and it still hasn't complete. Am I screwed?

No, you need to have it in your inventory. The reasoning is the customer wants it delivered by hand to ensure it's "top quality". It's dumb.

Okay, does anyone know where to obtain Battery's in this game? I need one to unlock an item at Kamiyama's and have no clue where to look.

Watch as it's something obvious like Don Quijote.

I'm 4-ish hours in, still in the kyriu opening, I have to say it's good as expected, but I'm liking it less than Yakuza 4. They seem to have streamlined several things, such as the upgrade system, and the city is not as interesting as Kamurocho or Okinawa. Also, the opening is the usual slow burn.

Hrm, the haruka segments are a bit grating. The change in mechanics is fine and the Nagoshi cameo was a nice surprise, but... gods. The amount of sheer repetition is staggering. At least with Kiryu every taxi passenger had his own unique dialogue to spice things up (and they had the good sense to make all mid-to-late taxi missions just conversations), and with Saejima you could take care of the optional objectives as you cleared the main goals.

Not so with haruka. Those handshake and dance events are pure filler. Would be better if her schedule consisted only of things like the interviews, the talk show, the quiz and the minigames.

Yeah, there was really no reason to have 48 side jobs for Haruka when so many of them are the exact same thing. Handshake events aren't fun at all, and while the rhythm game stuff is solid, the lack of different songs means you're basically going to play "So Much More" over and over for the majority of the jobs. 24 or even 32 jobs would have been better.

I could only do about 20 of Haruka's side missions and minigames before I got tired of them and wanted to move on with the main story. Indeed, most of them are very repetitive

After restarting the game download like 7 times I was finally able to download the game completely (it kept getting hanged on a certain %).
What's my surprise when I fire up the game and I notice the following:

- Lots of loading times and they take from 8 to 15 seconds.
- The cutscenes and the game itself sometimes go to 0 FPS and then return to normal.
- Some parts of the city are black (floor, buildings, etc.) but I can walk on them.
- Sometimes NPCs pop-up after I am I already talking to them.
- Executing finishing moves make the game hang for 3-4 seconds and then I see the move executed.

I don't think this is normal. May it be my PS3's hard disk drive?
I should receive Yakuza 3 tomorrow so I will check if it also happens with a physical game.

Sounds like corrupt data.

They got around the city thing by having a ton of them. Including kamurocho. Because of course.

I failed that Ramen delivery sub mission in the Japanese version with the ice but nailed it on the first try. My wife wanted to try and she passed it as well. That was the only one I was worried about aside from the comedy act.

In the first stage of Kyriu (Kiryu's ep 2), when you have to find one of those guys with a red jacket to talk with the fat dude, i had had trouble finding them, i literally made every quest avalaible and still hadn't tracked one of them ;_; what am i doing wrong lol D:

Jeez Saejima is such a ridiculous beast. The last chapter dojo fight that gave me so much trouble with all the other characters is brain-dead easy with him.

I found them around the corner from the hideout, and near the bridge next to the taxi cab area, then south on the same street.

i think we can all agree her sidemissions needed a proper storyline and more quality gameplay. it's just too much ubisoft repetition.

he is unstoppable in every fight, yea.

I always let street encounters beat me up a lot so I can eat all the food asap in these games. With trained Saejima this is hilarious, he just stands there unflinching in heat mode while like 5 punks circle him and hit for tiny slivers of damage. All so I can gorge on like 8 dishes at once.

Just buy a ton of appstim/legendary drinker at any drugstore and save yourself some time.

Gawrsh I can't believe I didn't get this sooner! I forgot how much I love the stories in these games. They are just so well done. Wonderful cast of characters, great antagonist, TWEEESTs and so many badasses with hearts of gold!

Game is definitely hamstrung a bit by the creaking PS3 technology. I am excited to see if they can reduce loading and make battle transitions (really out of battle now) more seamless.

The best guide, extremely indepth with translations of the main story, substories, minigames, systems:

http://www.khhsubs.com/projectsrggishin.html

What's neat is that the PS4 at least has a functional browser, so it's easy to access on the fly.

Or if you want a PDF on your phone: http://www.mediafire.com/view/acmyjxsl8a3bacv/YakuzaIshin_FullGuide_final_20140715.pdf

Thanks mate, but umm where would the cheapeast place to get the game from be? Seems cheapest is $30 :X

Finally finished the game. What a ride. 65 hrs and 33% complete. Surprisingly long game, but rarely dragged (though it was a little verbose at times). In fact, the playtime just flew by. It really felt like 4 Yakuza games in one. Chapter 3 especially could've been a stand-alone game. In fact, a lot of Yakuza 5 could stand on its own as separate games - Taxi racing, Idol Life, even the hunting missions. They were deep enough to stay interesting, but "arcade" enough that they were easy to pick up, play, and complete.

Ending thoughts:
Overall it was satisfactory, but I was not a fan of Haruka quitting the Idol biz. I hope it gets retconned a bit in Y6, because I'd love to see another pop idol chapter. Shinada really grew on me and I liked that last character beat with the loan shark on the cell phone. The ending felt like twists for twists sake but I was invested in the characters enough not to care. I do hope Yakuza 6 mixes things up a little plot-wise. Getting tired of saving the Tojo clan over and over and over.

And now the painful wait for Yakuza 0 begins......

Warning: You don't get the normal difficulty trophy if you play on hard. This is bullshit, I gotta replay the game twice now...

I was going through my box of old ps2 games and i found a copy of Yakuza 1 & 2. Never played them. Forgot I owned them. Now I don't have an excuse. Tho I do need a ps2 again.

No. Same goes for the other characters. You'll get another chance later if that's what you want.

Does this mean you can freely switch between characters/cities later on? I'm messing around with the gourmet stuff, but want to move the story forward and see the other areas, how does the game handle all that?

You can do all the side stuff after beating the game in Premium Adventure mode. If you load your clear save data (which you'll get after finishing the game once) you can just continue your progress from the main game in that mode to finish up the side stuff.

So don't worry about leaving anything behind and just play the game the way it suits you the most.

I've already put like 10 hours into the game and I only just started it two days ago. Having a blast.

I was watching the Giant Bomb Quick Look too and I'm with Austin in that I totally want a taxi driving sim because I actually really like it!
