Let's say you had 10 minutes with your younger gamer self. What advice, warnings or insights would you share?
For me, definitely: fanboyism is stupid.
I was 11 when Microsoft dropped the OG Xbox and I picked the Playstation side hard. I was deep in the "my console is better than yours" mentality, constantly hyping up Playstation, and trashing xbox without ever giving it a real shot. I remember being genuinly upset when they "stole" my favorite fighting game when they made Dead or Alive 3 an Xbox exclusive. Looking back, I realize how much that mindset limited me. I could easily have spent a little bit less on some mid PS2 games and buying the xbox to enjoy some of those games.
Looking at the last years, it became more obvious that good competition is healthy. Xbox struggling lately has definitly taken the pressure of Sony, which you can see in their decisions, fewer bold risks, more price hikes and a heavier focus on monetization. When a company doesn't feel pressure, it stops trying to impress.
tldr; Stop dickriding your favorite brand and enjoy both worlds while they fight their ass off to give you the best experience.
Honorable mention: Don't throw away the cardboard packaging of your Nintendo games. Seriously. Past me was an idiot.
