You get 10 minutes with your younger gamer self, what do you say?

Id appear in a flicker of screenburn and static, lean into my younger selfs ear, and hiss

See that? That joy? That wonder? It dies. Replaced by achievement lists, battlepasses, and seasonal FOMO like a noose made of neon skins. You will keep buying games during sales, knowing full damn well youll never launch them. Youll call it 'retail therapy' like a freak. You'll grow up thinking games are your escape. You'll open Steam, look at 873 games you begged the universe for and feel nothing. You'll click around like a rat in a skinner box

Then Id vanish into a cloud of thermal paste and regret, leaving behind nothing but a running copy of The Crew with no servers and no exit button

"You can walk over it" or, "You'll just be buying and playing the same games over and over as remasters". Kidding aside, I'd honestly probably tease that one day, you'll have every single arcade and console game on a single card the size of a thumbnail and watch my head explode.

Forget the idea of someday magically not being a bum playing video games. You're stuck in this lifestyle, get used to it.

Buy some stocks in these companies and hold. Also when you hear about Bitcoin, buy it.

I would also tell my younger self not to loan out some of my NES games in the 90s. I would never see them again.

1. Telling him he has to write down and publish the Mega Man X Password Bug as soon as possible, and writing it down in 10 different places before it gets lost.

2. Telling him the Mario World cheats, the ability to play with two players in Super Punch Out, the powerful one-hit Easter egg in Punch Out on the NES, and telling him about video game bugs.

3. Buying Rule of Rose when it was on sale, even though I didn't own a PS2.

4. Not only being a Nintendo fan, but giving SEGA a chance.

5. Going to the Gravity Rush Mexico Premiere event by any means necessary.

To my teenage self: either quit playing competitive AOE2 or start taking it more seriously and actually try to become a top player. Stop being afraid of losing and hurting your Elo ranking. I got good but plateaued because I was more concerned with keeping up my "image" among my buddies than actually continuing to improve and dealing with tough losses. I would duck matches that I didn't think I could win.

But for more practical advice, I'd say to my mid-20s self.: don't upgrade your PC in 2012. Don't buy a PS4 in early 2014. You've got a live-in gf now who you'll end up marrying. Leave gaming in the past because you have more important things to do now.

I wouldn't take that advice, of course. I still game today. But it would have been for the best if I had.

Younger self as in like 18?
  • Get your body in peak shape and work hard to stay that way.
  • Who to not date
  • Invest heavily into Apple and MS up until 2005.
  • Save every dime from 2005 till 2008, then in 2009 invest it all into Bitcoin and continue to do so for a few years.
  • Diversify by investing into other stocks (Monster Drinks, Texas Pacific, etc)
  • In 2015 invest heavily into Nvidia.
  • Buy GAF and Era for the lulz

No big revelations. Probably something like this.

Don't buy a PS5, you don't need it. It will all come into your Steam library eventually.

Don't buy a PSVR2.

Whatever game you're thinking of buying, delay the purchase by a year and then get the complete edition at a discount.

For Cyberpunk 2077, wait 3 years and it will be a GOAT game.

For Starfield. Just skip it.

Joel did nothing wrong. But don't argue about it on the internet.

Enjoy these games now, because you will never get the same sense of wonder and excitement when you're an adult. Also don't sell all those boxed SNES games for a stupidly low price and throw away all your magazines.

Completely ignore console gaming after the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii generation

Ended up Selling off 90% of gaming related things I bought after 2012 and I was someone who never sold anything ever

Modern console gaming just isn't worth it.....died around the same time as Ralph H. Baer

I'd read off the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, would blow my mind that it was a real game.

All these nerds in here like "I'd tell young me to go the gym!" as if young you would actually listen.

Tell him which crypto to invest in and get out of , and which companies to buy shares of.

If I'm traveling back in time idgaf about games man. I'm trying to get rich so I can have more time to enjoy gaming on a yacht while I'm getting the double dicky suck by two big tiddy Alanah Pearce lookalikes.

"Hey man, you're gonna focus on the gym a lot more later, which is great! But it wouldn't hurt to get a bit of a head start. Also, you aren't fanboying, that's tight. Keep it up. I think you made the right choice gravitating towards PC gaming the most, while still enjoying consoles. Just keep your eyes open for what you like and what truly interests you. Nothing wrong with being a bit more selective, that doesn't mean you're picky, that just means you know what's more worthy of your time."

I'm almost 50, so I guess I would say "hold on to your ass" and "RUN when you meet a girl named Keri senior year."

Also, buy Apple and drain your savings when this weird shit called bitcoin first starts

I would get to my 12 year horny self and say "dude you are goint to make a lot of money making beautiful fake tits" and than watch my head explode.

Dont buy an Ouya, or just basically dont waste your money and time with Kickstarter. I've used Kick starter 3 times and all three times I regretted it.

Forget gaming, I'd just tattoo crypto buy/sell dates on my arm.

Also, everyone's lying about Dune Part One & The Batman, don't waste those 6hrs.

Buy Bitcoin.
Buy Nvidia stock.

Serious answer: Dont sell your physical games or old consoles.

Play them more and don't feel guilty about it. Buy physical for as long as you can. Appreciate cool installers rather than being impatient, you'll miss them one day.

  1. Buy Amazon and Google in the late 90s.
  2. Sell everything in 2000 before the crash.
  3. Buy Amazon, Google and Apple after the crash.
  4. Short real-estate in 2008.
  5. Buy Bitcoin, Nvidia, etc after the crash.
  6. Buy Tesla when it goes public.
  7. Buy Nvidia.
  8. And so on.
  9. Gaming at that point will come along for the ride! 😉

The biggest thing I would say is just be more open. I missed out on a lot of stuff as a kid due to not really branching out.

But also
  • Don't let your girlfriend tell you that you can't order the 20th Anniversary PS4 (I had one in my cart and she said no we can't afford that, and by the time I internally said fuck you ti was gone)
  • Don't sell off your consoles and games (as a minimalist I'm of two minds with this but overall it would be better to keep them)
  • Invest in Bitcoin
Take your pants off.
Are you molesting yourself? I guess it's not gay if its you, right?

-There's a future for gamers, some college degrees goes hand in hand with your favorite hobby like tech.
-Don't waste your time with CEOs who basically accept every wrong habit you could ever imagine over being a gamer.
-Normal Girlfriend gamers do exist and they're 10 by the way.

The minute bitcoin mining starts rebuild your gaming PC and don't ignore your friend when he's talking about BTC and getting it setup on your PC.
