Your Top 3 Youtube Subs

I'm subbed to a slew of channels, and of course, my tastes change from month to month. Some, though, I've stuck with throughout the years.

My current top 3 are:

1. kermodeandmayo

Movie reviews. Sometimes Kermode annoys me, sometimes he really moves me, making me have to check out a particular movie. But I always feel he's honest with his reactions to films.

2. Maangchi

Because she's Maangchi, and she's sweet and welcoming, and her cooking is awesome and usually surprisingly simple to do at home.

3. Japanese Udon Soba

This one's a recent obsession. Good lord, the places this guy goes to. I'm getting fatter just watching this stuff. I'm a big fan of udon in particular, but everything, just about, is really tantalizing to watch.

IDKFA

I am Become Bilbo Baggins
Marques is my go to source for tech news and reviews.

Next up, is Buff Dudes! Been a fan of these guys from the start and love all their videos.

Last up, Kings and Generals. I'm a history nerd and this is by far my favourite history channel.

Con_Z_ǝdʇ

Live from NeoGAF, it's Friday Night!
Billain TV

Of course i subscribed to my lord and saviour.

J Perm

Incredible dense informations in his tutorials and a cool guy.

Sangoma Records

Apart from the wonderful output of the label itself i love the visualisations for each EP or LP.

  1. Colin Furze
  2. You Suck At Cooking
  3. World War Two (by TimeGhost)
Honourable mentions to DIY Perks and Mr. Mobile (the only tech YouTuber I can really stand these days, although LTT/LMG are usually entertaining). Bad Lip Reading is great, but they don't upload much and quite a bit is about handegg that I don't care for.

And there are of course a few others, but they are more acquired/specific tastes or I don't love them.

I used to like Marques but now am not able to stand him. His camerawork and editing is on point, but he comes across and smug and detached to me. Same with The Tech Chap (although that happened much quicker).

1. Noah Caldwell-Gervais
Hours long, very thoughtful video essays on games that matter to me

2. NattoSumo
Just raw footage of sumo the day it happens. Other channels more informative, but this is always my first stop.

3. Mandalore Gaming
Similar to #1 except it's in the form of bite sized reviews. SsethTzeench [sic] basically the same thing but more rude.

Red Letter Media - feel like everyone knows these guys, and for good reason
Barry McCockiner - funny sports recaps
Your Mom's House - great set of podcasts

RLM is my only sub

although I recently started watching this dude who rides ferrys around Japan that have like hotel rooms on them. He walks around filming everything on the ferry. It’s actually chill and super relaxing. I might end up subbing. No idea how I stumbled on it.

I'm subscribed to 952 channels ... lol, not sure how that happened :p maybe I really am addicted to youtube. Probably mostly musicians/bands/artists and random skateboarding channels.

Kind of hard to tell you my top 3 (besides the obvious like Vsauce), but off the top of my head:

Styxhexenhammer666 - makes like 4 videos a day, covers everything from news, politics, occultism, etc. He's really smart, funny and gives some great analysis/insight to what's going on in USA and around the world

House of Masks - uploads daily, does lots of cool/rare mask unboxings and overall just a cool personality to follow if you're into horror movies, halloween stuff, metal music, etc

Count Dankula - uploads pretty often, tells tales of interesting historical figures, famous celebrities, and just completely insane people. I love his mad lads series.

some honorable mentions/personal favorites:

Goblin
xCodeh
ThrasherMagazine
alpha m.
heyZeusHeresToast
Thoughty2
66Samus
Chris Stuckmann
Joe Rogan podcast

80% of my subscriptions no longer do any anything because of the goddamn Youtube algorithm which doesn't populate my front page with subscriber videos consistently.

For example - OP's Kermode recommendation. I clicked it thinking "Oh yeah! Kermode! I loved that guy - why haven't I been watching his videos anymore? I should subscribe so I can start watching again."

I AM ALREADY FUCKING SUBSCRIBED TO THE CHANNEL WTF

Youtube only reliably promotes subscriptions that create clickbait engagement these days. I have no trouble getting the latest Veritasium video on my front page, but fuck Kermode? What is the point of subscribing if I won't get the videos on my front page anymore?

DragoonKain

Neighbours from Hell
Probably Strictly Dumpling, Angry Joe, and Smooth McGroove... though he doesn't upload nearly the amount of videos he used to, so either Good Mythical Morning or Jeremy Jahns.

Nexpo

He covers internet mysteries and similar sort of sort. I wish he uploaded more often, but the content is good when he does.

ThatChapter

True Crime channel, as I dig hearing about cases. The guy running the channel has a great personality as he covers grim topics, so it helps.

Vsauce

This guy blows my mind.

Good to see that ATP appreciation teezzy teezzy

I think we may have talked about him before, by far the best streamer on the platform because he's not a copycat of everybody else. Has good choice in games too.

I seem to get all my subscriptions on the subscriptions page, although I'm subscribed to so many channels that there's enough content to swamp any given video, so less frequent uploaders are more likely to not be noticed.

But subscription notifications is still buggy after all these years. For some channels I can turn the notifications on and off, and unsubscribe and resubscribe, and they still won't work.

I feel like its important to keep your subscription list nice and pruned to your absolute favorites to get the algorithm to work for you rather than against you.

idk how many you have but im at about 25 or so total. keeps things neater and pinpointed to what i'll actually watch

Dam that Kings and Generals channel is pure gold. This is what tv on national geographic should have been.

I don't ever, ever use the YouTube frontpage.
My browser shortcut always brings me to my subscription page.
You don't get anything that you are not subscribed to.

I slowly accumulate good channels and I keep myself there.
There is enough content to never get bored.

As for best 3 Sub, It's really hard to narrow it down that much, I have 160+ subs.
But let me try nonetheless:

Smarter Every Day

He embodies many of the qualities I want to emulate, humility, curiosity, respect, and he does not ever feel like he need to do crazy stunt like other other educational youtuber I will not name.

Sampson Boat Co

Its a guy and some of his friends, building a boat from scratch. Not bullshit, no drama, just craftmanship and slowly making something great.

Veritasium

Someones who use the access he has to talk to interessing people of all kinds. He use his platform for good and showing you subjects you never thought interessing and let the actuel experts do the speaking.
Again as Destin from smarter Every Day, he never talk people down and seems a genuine person trying to foster people interest in science.

Not really a big youtube guy but I guess:
Official Jim Cornette
Avenuex(swore to never have a crush on a youtuber but here we are)
Chrontendo(new videos take a long time but are totally worth it)

I'm not huge into YT/subs but my shortlist would be -

YBS - Brody is so chill and living the good life.

Trip in a Van - Happy Days, 'nuff said. Get out and see Australia, so much going. This is what the misses and I will be doing during our retirement. We dip our toes in as a family already but nowhere near the commitment of TiaV.

Mint Blitz- Get your Halo on.

Was subbed to Abroad in Japan for, shit, I think it was years, but unsubbed maybe a year or so back. It was probably just getting stale for me, or maybe he started using ads. Can't really remember. But I might check in again.

2. TheseKnivesOnly, CoD player who mostly melees, I don't even play the game

3. Jon Sandman, Rocket League tuber

I went off them for a while, but eventually decided that I like their slightly over the top (for me) style. It's not my usual preference, but they actually do bother having some knowledge about what they are on about (compared to most tech channels that are essentially just reading spec sheets and PR packs - *cough* MKBHD *cough*) and when they don't at least they tend to make arses of themselves which is entertaining in its own way.

And their not really dry like the anorak channels.

He hasn't really changed much. Some of the journey videos are good, but sometimes you can tell its pointless filler. And since getting his fancy new studio he's (understandably) been rather obsessed with it. I'm getting a bit sick of it.

Thankfully the answer to getting tired or sick of a YouTuber is to simply not watch them.

AJUMP23

Parody of actual AJUMP23
I love this history channel and the plainess in which the battles and history is laid out.
