YouTube Premium is getting a big price hike internationally

GAF's Pleasant Genius
One of the few services I pay for. I also use it for YT music but this shit has got to stop. The ads are ridiculous
I understand paying for ads removal or getting ads, but blocking system features should not be allowed.

I should be able to watch videos in PiP mode and listen to the audio if the video is playing in the background… or at least the former. Not paying Premium to unlock an OS feature.

I was actually thinking of getting premium, mostly because I hear music on youtube not spotify, I like montages and slowed and reverbed songs.

I thought it would be around 7.99€ which was the price in Portugal.

Im currently living in Switzerland, color me surprised when I saw 17.90CHF per month.

Well, I really got used to no ads… the ads after just 2 days are driving me nuts.

They are definitely worse than it was 6 months ago. I’m watching on my tv so maybe that makes it worse too. I’ll check my pc tonight through edge.

I don't know why they think their service is worth so much money. I guess maybe they see the "hours watched" metric and think that should convert into premium sales. Me personally, I watch Youtube out of compulsion mostly, rather than pure enjoyment, and I often feel terrible afterwards.

Don't look now, but YouTube TV is preparing for yet another price hike scheduled to hit soon after the holidays. YouTube last increased the cost of its streaming television service in March 2023, raising the monthly price from $64.99 to $72.99. If that $8 increase rubbed you the wrong way, odds are you are not going to feel great about what is coming next.

I saw a youtube tv ad on my LG TV’s home page. Wow get a discount. Looked at the price and it was a whopping $60+, what the flying fuck. So much for cutting the cord. The big kicker is, PREMIUM IS NOT INCLUDED. Fuck you Google. Premium is not worth the asking price either, i’ll stick to my ads on mobile or adblock on PC thanks.

26 euros per month, are you insane?

That's immensely insane.
Youtube is my main platform for watching stuff. (Via my consoles) I've Premium for a long time now.

Spend recently a night at a friend's without and to say I've got frustrated is a big understatement.

Sooo many AND LONG af invasive commercials. Now that was/is insane as well. Commercials (and the overal programming, shows etc) made me cut the cable asap when getting my own place.

I know I can't go back. But yeah that's a lot of money.

Alphabet must be getting cocky with Manifest V2 being discontinued in 2025.
They probably think they can ban adblockers from Chrome and force everyone to watch ads or pay up.
All of my adblockers are still functional. They have not tried t purge me from the platform, however... I am building my own miniature infrastructure for entertainment server. Almost done, tbh..

I'm honestly baffled by the amount of friends in my age or in their 20's that have never used an adblocker or barely even know they exist. I wonder how big of a percentage of internet users that use them.

Remember. It's not enough that a company is profitable. It has to somehow be more profitable every year for eternity.

It's dumb, but that's capitalism.

I'm not suggesting we should go full Marxist, because that's also dumb, but there needs to be a better way forward than this.

Maybe companies that make obscene profits can put that money towards national UBI, or a move to stakeholder capitalism where a business will prioritise the needs of employees, customers and the environment over the need of shareholders? Something has to give sooner or later.

Cheeks Spread for Digital Only Future

$89 a month for ad infested local channels and maybe TNT where they speed up the actual shows to fit in more ads.
Anyone thinking that cable was cheaper or that cable companies didn't also increase prices constantly is an idiot.

I do this mostly for hobby but i do service/setup/builds for many people. Hundreds of PC and laptops have passed through my hands. I don't remember the last time i saw one with an adblock installed. Most of the time i see the usual bloat, lots of garbage in the startup list and at least one sketchy antivirus taking up recourses and nagging for purchase. But no adblockers.

That's your standard casual computer user. Normies simply don't care or don't have the patience/will to research how to improve their user experience. I would say the precentage of internet users who use adblockers is less than 5%.

And that's a good thing IMO. This 95% is keeping the greedy industry alive so us, the 5%, can enjoy these services with adblockers. Which is why i don't install them in other people's PCs anymore unless they ask me to.

14 euros a month is past the impulse sub just to get rid of ads. Single digits and I'm in. I'll have to try SmartTube on TV, thanks for the suggestion.
