So I tried the Xanadu patch. My laptop's at 1920x1080. I should put the resolution patch at that with the back buffer at 1920x1920? I'm getting a skinmesh_error and now the game is acting up.

Anyone have this error? I'm not at home, so I can give more details or another look tomorrow.

Woah was not expecting Ys 7 villain to be
Tia, I DID guess that she'd be a descendent of the "real" moon tribe but I thought she was going to take us to the moon shrine and be our guide there because she rebelled against what Scias and the others were planning.

I received Ys: Origin and Ys VI: Ark of Napishtim on Steam for my birthday! :)

I played Oath in Felghana and Ys I & II Chronicles already. Any suggestions for which of the two I should play first? I'm guessing Ys VI?

Story-wise it makes no difference at all.

Origin is the better game by a pretty big margin, going back to VI shortly after it might hurt the experience, so VI might be the better choice to start with.

You can play Ys: origin first if you wish to, it is a more refined version of Ys VI and Oath's battle system, and explains the origin for the events of Ys I and II.

Or you can play Ys VI which is set years after Oath in Felghana, which continues Adol's adventure. Also,it's battle system is not as refined as OiF and Origin and you will have to grind a lot depending on the difficulty. I'd recommend Ys VI first, personally. It's shorter too.

Edit: just saw that it was answered, was afk when typing this. >_<

Though they aren't the best characters, I brought Dogi and Geis with me to the final battles in Ys 7. Yeah I get Geis exp bonus is useless and Cruxie or Alicia would give a better buff but common Adol/Dogi/Geis is like the big 3 and this is the first and only game that enables all 3 of them to fight the final boss together.

Edit; And then the game forces a use the entire party section at the end lol I'm honestly okay with it though I wish I could have picked how my parties were divided up.

And with that I've beaten ever Ys game, the only thing left to go back and do is play some of the alternate versions of certain games specifically

Ys 1&2 the version that combines the two into one long game
Ys 3 any of the side scrolling versions
Ys 4's two bump system versions
Ys 5 the hard version of the game if the English patch ever works with it JK Ys 5 sucks never playing that again

I don't think so, Falcom has been quiet on that front. Too busy promoting Tokyo Xanadu I guess. We'll probably see a big blowout once that game releases at the end of September.

I believe TGS is when we'll likely learn more. I'm not expecting it to release in 2015 anymore, but i'll be pleasantly surprised if it does.

When is Tokyo Xanadu releasing? I'd assume Falcom might want to focus more on promoting that game during TGS =X

Would be awesome if Falcom can get Ys 8 to show up during PSX 2015 though XO

I honestly wouldn't mind if they decided to make Ys 8 PS4 only long as they put more effort into the graphics @_@

Hey now, that means I won't be able to play it anytime soon. >_>

I'd prefer they didn't keep the bloom filter from Celceta though. :/

Hah it'll be there, it'd take a lecture from Durante translated into awesome Japanese for them to realize bloom is a no no :V

Finally done with Oath in Felghana. Final boss was very annoying, as the first part was pure RNG. I got the 10 retries achievement with it. Otherwise, awesome fight and awesome game, although I preferred Ys Origin. The dungeon design felt a bit too 2d (I know Ys III was originally a sidescroller).
Ys Origin also has my favorite art style in the series so far. Who's the artist, Tony Taka? Looks awfully similar.
Now to track down Ys IV. I guess I'll check the Turbo-CD version. Seems pretty affordable, actually.

So I started playing Ys VI on Steam, and I have a big problem: the game constantly and seemingly randomly minimizes itself. I initially put all the settings to the max (since I figure my PC can handle this game graphically :p), but even trying to run it at the lowest settings it minimized itself at least once too.

I really don't get it, and it makes the game unplayable because the game doesn't exactly pause when the window loses focus.

Googling wasn't of much help. I found someone on the Steam forums who complained about a similar issue about a year ago but it seemed to have been unresolved. Any ideas? :(

Edit: well, I unchecked the "full screen" mode to see if it'd make a difference, and for some reason my game is still in full screen (probably because I picked my screen's native resolution and it's doing some sort of borderless windowed mode? not sure), and it seems to not do the minimizing issue anymore! However... I'm now experiencing rather frequent framerate drops. WTF.... -_-

Are you on Windows 10? Because I recall there being an issue with full screen on Win10 that they were going to have to fix.

Yeah, going back and checking, it looks like it was Trails that had Windows 10 full screen issues. Not sure if it has been resolved.

It has. I noticed Trails has had an update or two since I posted about the full-screen issue in the TiTS OT. Going full-screen no longer causes that rapid blinking problem if you're on Win 10. I'll make a note of it in the other thread too.

Well, restarted the game and so far no stuttering, might have been a one-off thing. Killed the second boss and just made it to the Ruins of Lost Time. :) Fun so far.

I still don't know how to make that "dash jump" though... I hope it's not going to be essential...

Tap a direction ->attack-> jump very fast in succession.

I just beat Ys VI. Fun game! A couple of glaring flaws but still very enjoyable. My main gripes:
- Dash jump. Yeah I agree with the general consensus, that shit sucks. Fortunately it's not really too essential, but there were a couple of frustrating moments. Ironically, I was more successful in getting it to work consistently using the keyboard than the controller, and I'm the kind of player that loathes playing anything with a keyboard.
- Grinding. Yeah many Ys games are grindy but not that much. I played Ys I & II Chronicles and there was a level cap so not that much grinding, and I didn't need to grind in Oath except to take care of one boss where I was a bit underlevelled. This one seemed far grindier than those. And I played on Normal! (Catastrophe Mode)
- I also didn't beat the optional boss in the Ruins of Lost Time because of the grindiness. At level 49 he destroys me instantly and I can't damage it. I look online and apparently I need to be at least 57, preferably 60? Fuck that noise. (I did grab that loot and ran away, though xD)
- That escort mission in the boat. Like, WTF were they thinking.
- I feel like Ernst
should have been introduced a bit earlier. He just kinda shows up, acts all evil, then has this redemption-through-death moment almost right away. Uh, OK, I really don't care. xD
- And finally:
I have no problems with Windows 7 until I beat the game then it crashed after the credits :X
Yeah, this also happened. I hope there isn't something else after the credits... :\

You have already played Oath so the improvements that Origin is going to have over VI probably aren't going to be too surprising. Regardless, you have an even better game to look forward to. Depending on what elements of Oath/VI you favor, it could end up being your favorite of the bunch.

I feel like Origin is everything awesome about the Napishtim engine trilogy condensed down with the nearly all the fat cut out.

Yeah I played the Origin demo last year and it's what got me into the whole franchise, really. :) The games were on sale and Oath was the cheapest, so I bought it for like $3.75. Total steal.
Gonna start digging into Origin very soon. :) I beat all those games on Normal, but I found Oath harder than the others (yet, less grindy), Dark Fact aside. I imagine I should continue picking that difficulty level?

It wouldn't hurt. You aren't likely to find Origin's normal mode as hard as Oath. I consider Origin hard to be close to Oath normal, but most people find it harder than that I think (but still not as hard as Oath).

Best way to fight the optional boss is to farm for money and buy power seeds. I got my base attack to 315 or 320 then fought against the secret boss. Took me less than 5 tries.

Just beat Ys Origin. This game is absolutely incredible. From the soundtrack to the story to the art both in 2D and 3D. The writing got somewhat stereotypical sometimes, but it didn't lose its focus (plus it's fun to hear Dalles say something like "yes, I am monstrously evil, that's the long and short of it!")

I beat it on Normal twice with Yunica and
Toal
. It's interesting how much levels matter in this game. One level can be literally the difference between a boss being incredibly hard to beat to being manageable. I like how the level cap discourages grinding; I usually only had to take a few minutes before boss doors to get the necessary level I needed. Another thing I appreciate about Origin is the length. It doesn't overstay its welcome and is just about right.

Now to move on to Oath. I've already started playing and faced two bosses and had my ass kicked by both a few times before I got the hang of the patterns. At first I thought Normal was too easy but then after the boss ass kicking I decided to stick with it.

I just finished the PC88 version of Ys II.
I'd put it on the same quality level as the first one overall, which is actually a little disappointing as I was expecting it to be better. For every step forward (a bit longer, more variety, more story) there's a step backward (overpowered fire spell that trivialize battles, a difficult to navigate last area, grind, grind and grind).
That said, both were great and are still very enjoyable nowadays, contrary to many PC games of the time.

I'm worried that we still don't have any new about YS8 guys, sure there's still today and tomorrow, but it's already been one year!

I know falcom take their time, but if they don't show anything for TGS, then when?

I'm not worried exactly, but a bit disappointed that there's no news, I look forward to seeing more of it too.

Same here. In general, Falcom has been quite silent this TGS. I actually expected them to show up at Sony's press conference but they didn't. Seems like they don't have anything to show except for Tokyo Xanadu but hopefully we'll get something over the weekend.

after finishing Ys VI I'm only missing V and VII, then I can say I played them all.

I'm not sure about VII though, I don't really like the party system too much and I haven't read many good things about the game itself.

that fight in the steam version is such bullshit. I still haven't finished the game, I just gave up after trying 30+ times.

Da fuq?
Ys Seven is good, you'll get over the fact that it isn't Adol solo and appreciate it for the action RPG game it is.

VII I enjoyed better then Celceta despite having some rougher edges and a plot that goes on a little long

V is a pretty meh experience though

VII is good. It's basically a less refined Celceta (although I enjoyed it more than the latter for some reason).

I got over the fact that it isn't Adol solo in Celceta already but I was never fond of that.

anyway ok, I won't skip VII. :p
