Whew! Lots of questions since I last checked this topic. I'm going to do my best to answer as many as I can, but if I missed yours, sorry about that!
Tom,
Has there ever been anythought put into bringing Origins to Vita? It's on my list to play, but my PC is rather old.
speaking of PSN, will Origins ever get a PSN release ?
Supposedly, there was a PSP version of Ys Origin being considered for a while, but as I understand it, the game didn't do particularly well in Japan largely because of the lack of Adol. Japanese Ys fans did not take kindly to an Ys game without him, and some have even taken the "pretend the game doesn't even exist" route, not counting it as official canon.
Because the Japanese market for it is so limited, it seems unlikely Falcom will ever port it, but... you never know!
Still amazed the Fan translation on that one is stuck in limbo, the script was done like over half a decade ago.
Er, I guess you missed the link to the topic saying that the fan-translation is almost done and should be released soon?
Since we can't get Ys V, any chances of the PC version of Gurumin? That game is too adorable to be stuck on PSP.
It's a possibility, for sure!
So, Tom, since we've got you here: do you guys foresee there being enough of a market for you to consider releasing Trails in the Flash?
Problem is, Sen no Kiseki is basically Trails 6. And we're only just now finishing up work on Trails 2. If we skip ahead, there are going to be a LOT of plot points that go right over everyone's heads, and a lot of content that's spoiled from Trails 3-5.
I understand the desire to play the newest game in the series, and the story is supposedly standalone enough that it's at least feasible, but I'm just not sure it's a good idea...
Just read the OP FAQ, was surprised to learn that the game voices are dubbed? I was under the impression that XSEED never dubbed their games. I'm not complaining or anything, just curious.
Actually, we dub a lot of games! More than we leave undubbed, in fact. The only time we leave any game undubbed is when (A) we can actually get the Japanese voice rights (which is sadly kind of a rarity), and (B) we can't afford the hefty cost of dubbing the script for a dual audio release.
Which Ys game is the better one to start with? I remember being told one has less dialogue, so I want that one.
Should I play The Oath or Seven first? Is there a preferred order of play?
It's hard to say which game is best to start with, since that depends SO MUCH on your own personal gaming preferences. The general rule of thumb, though, is that if you're an old-school gamer who likes a good challenge (i.e. the sort of person who enjoys Demon's Souls), Ys: The Oath in Felghana is almost certainly your best bet. If you've been weened more on modern RPGs, however, then starting with Ys Seven or Ys Celceta would be advisable.
You can start with any of the other games, too, but Ys I & II are very different from any other readily-available title (and much more old-school), Ys: The Ark of Napishtim is a bit outdated compared to Felghana and Origin, and Ys Origin is largely meant for people who've already played Ys I & II (and has a lot of references and general fanservice that might go over your head if you haven't), so I think Felghana, Seven and Celceta all make better starting points.
Quick question: do the other PSN Ys game play on Vita? I remember Sony delaying PS1 classic compatibility at launch and haven't heard anything since.
Hmm? No, almost every PS1 classic is Vita-compatible at this point, as are the majority of PSP games -- including all three of our Ys titles (though not Napishtim, but I don't even think that's on PSN at all). No worries at all there.
Would Ys 6 PC be possible? I know XSEED would probably have to license the existing translation or do a new translation but has there been any talk about that one?
It's a definite possibility.
Sorry if this has been asked already but is this game digital only for EU?
No, NIS America is planning to do a physical release as well AFAIK, though it's unknown if there will be an LE.
