Ys: Memories of Celceta |OT|: The Ys-iest Purchase You'll Make All Year (Now For EUs)

Last Ys I played were the OG Ys I, II and III on MSX2 20+ years ago. Seems like since then about 1745 Ys games have come out, with multiple remakes of older titles - sorta daunting. Has there been any sidescrolling Ys after/since Ys III? I have fond memories of the game and liked the platformer/RPG gameplay.

You have missed out on some good games in this series. If you have a PSP or Vita, Oath and Seven are great!

Aaargh!!! Amazon.com still says its preparing for shipment and that neither Y's or the new Zelda have shipped to me yet. Kinda wish I would have just bought it digitally now.

Time to put out the wyrdwad signal!

(He's in Pacific time so probably not awake yet) I hope there is one!

I played Ys originally on the TG-16 CD and I loved the Ys games for the PSP.

Now that I have a Vita I've been debating on double dipping and getting the digital PSP games for that glorious OLED screen.

How do the PSP Ys games look/play on the Vita? Are they worth a double dip?

I haven't played any of the original games (or Felghana) since I have them on Steam, but YS 7 looks great (and controls great as well).

So hyped for this. One of the reasons I bought a Vita. Anyone know if the LE is available in stores or online only? Don't want to wait for shipping, would rather pick it up.

*High five* glad to see I'm not the only who got a Vita for this game :)

Saw that first review (though admittedly, probably not an incredibly reputable source) and I'm about ready to jump on this hype train. Might do digital though, I've certainly become quite lazy this past year...

This game is out today and there's not a single review?! What's that about.

I saw a couple people mention playing it yesterday. Dunno if they just got their copy then or what, but not sure what happened. If they did just get it yesterday, quite a bummer if something held up getting out reviewables (digital or retail).

Waiting to leave work to pick it up. Might get snow in the next few days and will be perfect to put some play time into it.

My copy should come in tomorrow, luckily. Estimated delivery date before shipping was next week but Amazon got it out the door in good time.

Eager to give it a shot.

Are books 1 and 2 worth picking up on Wii VC?

is it the 3G? i know it's useless but having the 3G model at $169 is pretty good. considering the wifi model is $169 as well.

Has anyone's limited edition shipped?

Usually ebgames will ship on Mondays, and it'll get here Tuesdays. Forgot the game was coming since I was wrapped up in Tearaway, so didn't notice it hadn't shipped yet. ):

Mine will be here today from Amazon.

The thing is, I have money sitting on the Wii VC that needs spending.
Is there a major difference between the version on PSN and Wii VC?

Gameplay and story-wise they're very similar. The music has new arrangements and the PSN version has updated graphics. I prefer the music in the VC version.

The VC is definitely dated but it's still one of my favorites.

PSP got the 'enhanced' versions with new music/graphics/etc. I think the Wii VC one is the original game.

It's the original TG-16 CD-Rom version of the game. I believe the original game was actually on the Sega Master system or the VIC20....I'm sure someone will correct me.

'Fraid not. Physical manuals are discouraged for North American Vita releases, and we're not about to ruffle any feathers by being "that guy." ;)

Fortunately, the LE comes with a 130-page book, and the book smells better than any manual ever could (not to mention being more awesome in general!), so I don't think you guys will be disappointed!

Definitely available in stores -- not necessarily today, though most GameStops will likely have it in either today or tomorrow.

Are reviews still embargoed for this or something?
This game is out today and there's not a single review?! What's that about.

Manufacturing for this game was really, really tight, and PSN codes aren't active until the game goes live, so review copies went out a bit later than we'd have liked them to. Most people are likely to have only started playing this past weekend.

Are books 1 and 2 worth picking up on Wii VC?

I think you'd be better off with Ys I & II Chronicles on PSP or Steam, and I'm not just saying that as a representative of their publisher. ;) The VC versions are very good, but they're also extremely dated, with the biggest issue being that you can only move in four directions. Chronicles retains the classic feel of the original games, but gives you either 8-directional or full 360-degree movement (you can choose which you want in the options), and that seriously makes all the difference in the world.

Plus, they're updated with FAR better graphics, arguably better music, better balancing and a new translation (which I rather unmodestly consider better, but YMMV!).

On the other hand, the VC version is voice-acted, where Chronicles is not, so if you're a stickler for voice-acting, the VC version might be more to your liking.

No, the original was for either PC-88 or PC-98, I can't remember which. The SMS and TG16 versions were both ports.

Sorry for the noob question but, is this a remake of Y's 4? I never saw 4 in the title so I was always under the impression that it was a completely new Y's game. On which system was the original game released?

All the answers you could ask for can be found here on the official website:

Be sure to click the links along the left side for more information on the individual games as well.

So I'm not the only one who loves the smell of freshly printed game manual/art book? Nice!

Since it was was released on CD-Rom back in the day the music and voice work hold up.

Seems like VG+ despatched my SE yesterday. Will possibly get the game within the next 1-1,5 weeks, or within a week from that at latest, if their delivery times haven't changed. Though, it could take longer if dem bitches at the customs notice it. Hopefully it's a small and/or light enough package that it gets through without them taxing it. :S
