Hey Tom. Is there a clock in the game that keeps track of your hour count? I always love to know how much time I've sunk into RPGs like these.
Of course! Every modern Ys game has this, I think.
There won't be any DLC right? I'm ordering from Europe, which would make DLC incompatible with my Vita.
No DLC whatsoever, though there is a patch (for Vita TV compatibility) that isn't in the master version and will need to be applied later, which miiiight give you some trouble from a Vita in the EU region. Honestly, I have no idea how patches work from region to region.
If you don't care about Vita TV, though, you're golden.
As I expected, this game does NOT work with the Vita TV. It needs that 1.02 patch the JP version got. Not surprised, but completely disappointed, especially after wyrdwad claimed it would.
I never claimed it would, I said I suspected it would because (supposedly) the Japanese version of the game works with Vita TV out of the box, even without the patch.
That doesn't appear to be the case with the NA release, though, unfortunately.
Can't wait to get it! Off topic question for Tom, I heard back when TiTS SC was announced that xseed was considering doing a special physical release of some sort, Have there been any updates on this?
It's a pipe dream that we're exploring, but as of yet, it's nothing more than that. The chances of a physical version of SC are extraordinarily slim, so I wouldn't get my hopes up too high if I were you. It IS possible... but it's all just "something to work toward" at the moment.
Ys Seven. I didn't really find the characters or dialogue interesting enough to hold my attention, but at the same time I don't think I gave it enough of a chance so I'm going to try again with Celceta and go in more open-minded about it.
Well, if story and characters are the most important parts to you, then yeah, Celceta might just have what you're looking for.
I'd probably recommend Ys Origin, though, as an alternative. Easily the best story in the series.
Are there any missable quests or such in this? I want to just immerse myself in it without worrying if I'm missing stuff. It's not a deal breaker, I'm buying it regardless, but I would like to know if I need to look up anything before I start wreaking havoc. =)
There are, but if you're thorough, you're unlikely to miss any of them. And it sounds to me like you're pretty thorough.
There was a specific trailer for this. One of the games had some add-on you could get that made the OST all metal or something. It was even named something like "heavy metal Ys" or whatever.
That would be Ys I & II Chronicles, and that wasn't DLC or an add-on -- just the game's regular, default soundtrack.
How talky/cutscene-y of an RPG is this? I just want combat not bogged down by the slow parts of jrpgs.
Are the stories in this series notoriously deep or is all the talking just repetition of important points so you can't possibly fuck anything up? I have been craving something with a genuinely good story for a while.
Celceta is less chatty on average than Ys Seven, but more chatty than any other Ys game. (Story's good enough to support this, though!)
Downloaded it along with all the ys games on sale as I have never played a game in the series, I wanna play Memories of Celceta first but is there any reason I should play one of the earlier ones first instead?
Nope, Celceta's a great place to start, I'd say. I'd reserve judgment on the series as a whole, though, until also playing Ys: The Oath in Felghana -- but if you play both games, I think you'll have a pretty good idea of what the series is all about.
