Ys: Memories of Celceta |OT|: The Ys-iest Purchase You'll Make All Year (Now For EUs)

Is this because of the PS4 fiasco? I thought Amazon usually handle LE decently.

No, I've purchased numerous LE from them in the past, and almost everytime I'd have to exchange for another. Usually they like to ship it in a box that barely fits it with no cushion, which causes the LE box to have dents and creases. I'm very particular about my LEs. The worst offender was the Persona 2 LE. Twice I've had them send me the game, and twice the box was banged up badly. Amazon ended up taking off half the price of it for me, which I was grateful. Just this week I had to send back the Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds CE strat guide because the binding was ripped!

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
This first boss is kind of ridiculous, didn't expect to die so much right off the bat.

All this talk about LEs getting crushed is making me scared of ordering it from amazon. Does anyone have any experience with neweggs packaging?

Someone that has their LE already, can you all tell me if "Prelude to Omen" from Ys Origin is on the music CDs? *Crossing Fingers*

First boss actually seemed really easy to me, compared to the first boss of Felghana.

The game looks great so far - it's very polished, and looks great on the Vita's screen. The 2D stuff (menus, character portraits) looks phenomenal, and the 3D stuff is fine (better than in screenshots). The "vaseline" filter doesn't bother me so far. Nice integration of the touchscreen, and the music is good (of course).

Of the Ys games I've played so far (Origins, Felghana and Seven), this one has the best first impression, IMO.

I never claimed it would, I said I suspected it would because (supposedly) the Japanese version of the game works with Vita TV out of the box, even without the patch.

That doesn't appear to be the case with the NA release, though, unfortunately.
The JP version does not work out of the box. Had you said that that was why you reasoned the way you did, I could have old you that before.

It is, but it's not the in-game version -- it's the remix from the Ys Origin Super Arrange Version CD. (Which is significantly better IMHO, but your mileage may vary!)

If you have Ys Origin installed, though, you already have the original. Just search your game folder -- all the music played in the entire game should be in there in OGG format, which is listenable through most media players.

Well excuuuuuuuse me, princess!

;)

...Seriously, though, sorry for any confusion. I was going by the reports I'd read from Japanese sources. Clearly, my sources were in error.

Is anyone else having trouble downloading this on their Vita? I bought it, then it goes to download and the little icon moves to the top right of the Vita, but it looks like a ripped in half page and says something like missing page or missing data

Then I check my list of things downloading and it says its downloading but it's stuck at 12 MB/785 MB and not moving

Sure your memory isn't full?

Holy crap at this overworld. It's huge, I'm not used to being lost in an Ys game. It does really give a great feeling of exploration though, I also like having a choice of where to go first. Not sure if I like Duren's transformation into NotDogi though.

Do I need to know anything about previous games before starting this one? Thinking about buying but don't want to be completely lost from the beginning.

Played it for a couple of hours... Love the absolute focus on exploration, collecting things and beating up baddies! Its fantastic!

I don't really know anything about this series but it has my interest. What sort of games are there that I might have played that are similar to this game? Is it anything like Star Ocean?

This game I would say is a bit like it, only there's no transitions into a battle set up. You level up skills by using them, as in SO.

The only time this matters is Ys II and maybe the original version of Ys IV. This is remade in a way that kills that kind of dependence, and good luck finding II in English without the first game.

It's an action RPG series that has generally focused on the action more than the RPG. Ys games are known for being extremely polished, usually pretty tough, and having amazing music. This one and Ys 7 have gotten more RPG elements added to them in that you have a party that you can switch between, and a more standard weapon/armor progression. If you like Action RPGs at all I highly recommend the series as it really is the perfect example of the genre. Amazing games.

Thing is, I can't think of another series that plays like Ys 7 and Celceta though, maybe an isometric Kingdom Hearts with a lot less magic and a lot more badass?

Few hours put into it. Around ~30% of the forest, found two campsites leading, presumably, to Duren's two markers. Was gonna play until another party member but I guess that's further down than I thought,

From today's adventure.

y cant Adol swim. Assuming you need a different party member here.

Have to go on a roadtrip tomorrow where I'll be passenger half the time so I'll be able to sink some time into it. :)

Ya I noticed the loading as well, but it hasn't bothered me yet.

The game looks great. I cant compare it to Ys 7 on the Vita as I played that on the PSP. I hadn't fired my Vita up since Dragon's Crown release week so.. that screen still continues to amaze me. So easy to read the crystal-clear text.

The only thing that's amusing about the graphics is just like in the pics I've seen, the game looks like it was drenched with the bloom effect. Everything looks like it has a light shining on it. Not faded, just.. ya.

It's great so far though, no complaints. I have to get use to how fast the character runs in this game. For some reason it seems like they moved around slower in the other 3 I played (OiF, 7, and AoN)

Haha, man, I feel you. I put in 4 hours now and basically went around like crazy in the forest. Think I've got around 24% completed and I've yet to find my way to the next dungeon/boss. It's also pretty funny how some of the big monsters, regular ones, are just a recipe for disaster if I try to fight them right now. That giant ape almost one shots both Duren and Adol with ease (in Nightmare), I've been running from them with a passion.

Going to stop for now, but having a good time.

Got my LE and played through the opening dungeon. I haven't played too much but it's had a good first impression. I'm excited to get out into the overworld.

The LE contents are really cool too. The book smells nice.

Just got home with my LE version. Hopefully i'll get some game time in tonight. Vitas library just keeps getting better.

What's the overworld like?

Some guy on gamefaqs said based on watching videos, you select an area from a world map to explore it, rather than it being a seamless overworld.

Is that true?

The LE contents are really cool too. The book smells nice.

Mmmm...I love me a good-smelling manual.

So far (2-3 hours in), no that's not the case. The forest is segmented into zones which all connect into each other, and you open shortcuts along the way to open up more possible pathways. So it's not seamless, you load from zone to zone but some of the zones are quite large. Only time you select something on the map is when you are using a warp point.

Good, that'd have been massively disappointing for this series had it not been more or less fully interconnected world. That's been a staple outside of Ys III and that has the excuse of being a sorta weird experiment.

It's Ys, it's more about the gameplay and music than anything, but Celceta stands next to Origin among my favorites because it has stronger character development than your average Ys title. I like the first half of the story a lot up to a certain point, but wasn't fond of a particular twist. This could vary between people, though, so I still say give it a shot if you're the type who likes a likable of characters and solid gameplay.

I can forgive a game not having the deepest story ( and continue looking elsewhere for that) as long as the characters are developed enough for me to have a strong feel for them. It really does look like something I'd enjoy even if it's not everything I want.

You die prettttttttttty quick on the first boss on Nightmare. I need to get used to Ys stuff again and get the flash move timing down. Maybe a level or two wouldn't hurt either :p

So I opened the box and my LE is slightly damaged on the bottom left........
nqpPg7k.jpg

Left Amazon some packaging feedback. Sad panda.
The packaging was just cardboard wrapped around the LE. No bubblewrap or peanuts to protect it.

So yeah this game is pretty awesome. I really like this engine Falcom has going, it's pretty. Isn't the new Legend of Heroes game using it too?

Only complaint so far is... why no Dawn of Ys!? That was a great theme.
