So, despite the fact that I made my order while Best Buy claimed there were 3 copies left...

The current order status says that they're out of stock. =/ Looks like I'm out of look with respect to getting my hands on a premium box.

Yeah. Someone brought it up to me on twitter that many didn't get review copies til very late so I'm guessing we'll start to see them sprinkle in in a couple days.

I'd wait a little bit--Best Buy occasionally does this when a game they were expecting for a certain date hasn't arrived yet. They'll just cancel your order if they can't get any in, so you can safely leave it alone until something happens with the order either way.

It's probably fun to play but yeah those aren't the wallet opening visuals. ;)

Ys is always about a lot more than visuals. It's never a gorgeous game, (well, for the time I think Ys Complete looked amazing but it was sprites in an era of early 3d.) but the gameplay always makes it shine. So very much.

Only complaint so far is... why no Dawn of Ys!? That was a great theme.

It is in the game, actually! It's just used as... a mountain theme. Of all things.

Not sure what poor Dawn of Ys did to get relegated to mountain theme status, but... hey, at least it's in there!

-Tom

For whoever mentioned reviews and stuff, I literally just got my review code today, so it'll probably be a little bit unless the big guys got stuff much earlier (a major possibility).

Where is Karna's theme damnit???

That, sadly, is not present. Nor is Leeza's theme.

A lot of classic Ys IV themes are not featured in Celceta, oddly. But then, a lot of obscure Ys IV themes (like Crater, and Tower) are... so it's kind of an odd soundtrack.

Game redeemed!

Also man Duren has a hard time staying on land in the forest. He keeps pulling those water goblin dudes.

The long journey of pain started today. Managed to beat the first boss at level 2 despite him being capable of one shotting me outright (took a few attempts tho). Forgot about how stuns worked in Seven and completely wasted my EX which made the fight last longer...

Yes unfortunately.. I feel like a barbarian. I couldn't get the folds to open. I never had that problem with my Muramasa CE.

Hee hee. Public service announcement: it opens from the side, like a treasure chest (or candy box!).

Together, we can beat torn boxes! ;)

Oh the irony. I left the plastic wrap on around the sides and just tried pull the contents out from the top so i could preserve the box better but in that I pretty much destroyed it.

My limited edition shipped! Hope it comes here Wednesday then. (still Tuesday here)

Balancing these Vita games with PS4 and PS3 is hard. Thank goodness I haven't felt like playing PS2, Wii, 360, etc.

Kind of was hoping for better graphics on the OLED. Looks like a upscaled PSP game with slightly better visuals.
Well, it was developed as a PSP game and then ported to Vita, obviously too late in the process to do much updating of the existing art, so instead they just applied what post-process effects they could to it. Really, though, a lot of the best Vita games are PSP games, so it's good to have one that looks a bit better :)

Started on Nightmare last night and made my first couple steps into the forest. Game feels very much in line with Ys 7 so far. For some reason I did not expect this game to be centered around mapping a forest, hah! I love the way the in-game map looks though. The use of the classic wing item for the quick travel monuments is pretty choice too!

As a side note, would I be right in feeling that there aren't going to be many traditional dungeons in this game? I've got this sneaky suspicion that this Ys game is one giant field/forest with interconnected areas/caves/structures that maybe feel like closed off dungeons, but really aren't, lol? Maybe I don't want that answered...

Oh, does this game take place after Napishtim? That governor lady mentioned that you're the one that apparently took down the stormwall on that island (Esteria, was it?). Pretty cool, I had no idea where this game took place in Adol's travels. I guess he sort of just "washed up" on this continent? I still love the whole 100 Adol stories/volumes angle. I always seem to forget about that side of the Ys universe unless an introduction clearly mentions it, hah!

Well, like in Ys 7 (I think) you'll want to save your EX move for when you Flash Guard (Flash Move too?). Since your attacks will all be critical during the brief seconds after Flash Guarding, you'll want to save/use the EX move then to make the most out of it. I guess you could also save it for when a boss gets stunned (that blue meter that fills up below their health). I guess that's the gist of it. =/

Sorry if it has been asked or if I annoy people with it (I have never played any of them, but have been sliiiiiightly curious) :

Am I correct in that, this is the first time the game has takes a jump outside the 2D plane?

It is also the first time you can use a character that is not aldol right? Would be a great interest to me since I love RPG's with a good selection of characters. All games seemed too similar to play style since you always you aldol in every game I think (I dint research the game that much...I know, I know, im sorry).

Thanks for the tidbit - sadly, I didn't read this until the morning after, when I managed to find that Amazon.ca had it in stock and jumped ship!

Looking forward to this game SO HARD!

The stormwall was the barrier around Esteria formed by Wicked Bad Doodz. This is the continent where Ys I took place, so they're referencing that. Timeline-wise, the games proceed as Ys Origins > I > II > IV > III > V > and then either VI or VII. I actually forget when VII takes place, but IV takes place before III at the very least.

So excited for this. I'm picking up my preorder while I do some other task I have to do today. My GameStop didn't receive it's shipment at the time I went there yesterday and I worked later that night so there was no chance I would get it yesterday.

A.) How is this game

B.) How are you having trouble finding it? I cant find a store that does NOT have it in stock

Great if you enjoy fast-paced A-RPG with kickass rock-ish music soundtracks. Best thing you could do is probably look up some videos on YouTube, maybe the first boss for Celceta, and see if it says anything to you. What you'll see is basically what you'll get should you end up purchasing it, so :V

Are you sure it wasn't one of the Amazon marketplace sellers? Amazon.ca itself didn't seem to have any when I checked just now.

If Amazon.ca DID have some in stock: screw you, Amazon.ca. What the hell gives, cancelling my pre-order?

but even then most less purty games on vita tend to compensate that with native resolution and/or 60 fps like ragnarok odyssey.

think ill beat 7 first haven't touched that in a year. no clue what i needa do next though lol. game needs a quest log... people around town are saying there is a thief or something.

I can't really say if it's good since I'm only one boss in, but it certainly feels in-line with every other Nightmare mode in the series so far.

Yes, there's a trophy for it.

Oh, I'd just forgotten about the whole stun meter and how one should ideally save their EX for whenever you can finally fill it up, since doing an EX move while the opponent is stunned deals a metric ton of damage. The first boss has a ton of spots where he takes 0 damage too, so I took off like 6 HP when I used it on him.

Amazon shipped my copy, should be here Friday.

The box seems big enough that Amazon shouldn't ship it in an envelope. Here's to hoping.

Looks like the Silver Edition is completely sold out over at VGP, it happened within hours x.x Glad I got my order in, 42€ is really cheap.

A.) How is this game

Since there don't seem to be any reviews yet, I'll quickly write up my initial impressions:

If you've played Ys 7, this is essentially the same but refined. Combat feels better, and there's a whole new guard button (which I never use. I may have to remap it to another button as others in the thread have mentioned.) Party system is still a good concept, but most enemies so far can be dealt with by Adol, not finding much use in swapping to Dogi.. err. Duren.. just yet.

What it does a whole lot better than Ys 7 though, is grabbing you with an interesting plot. I'm enjoying piecing together what happened to Adol that caused him to lose his memories, it keeps me wanting to play. I also like the flashbacks to his youth. For a guy I've been playing with for 5 games, I know nothing about Adol. It's nice to learn about his history.

The plot drives the game, but it isn't at the forefront: exploration is. That's probably my favorite part. I'm a sucker for filling out maps (Etrian Odyssey games, FFIV remake, SMT games) so color me pleasantly surprised to discover one of the big game play twists this time is filling out the map of Celceta. And you get prizes each time you hit a map completion milestone.

Graphically, it's not bad. It isn't the kind of game you put on to blow away your friends with the graphical prowess of the Vita, but it gets the job done. You get used to the Vaseline filter eventually. Soundtrack is excellent though.

Also, the LE packaging is sweet. I love the foldout case the soundtrack comes in, the art book has the texture of a graphic novel and looks like it came from the 80's (in a good way!), and the cloth map and compass are kind of gimmicky, but cute add ons.

Overall, I'm hooked and very pleased.

Mine should be here today, the problem is they gave it to UPS, who then gave it to the post office which has a habit of just putting a slip in my box, instead of putting the package in the office or on my door.

The graphical complaints still sadden me. I'm just not sure what you people expected from a remade RPG on a handheld device?(This is it's third iteration) No wonder the young don't play the classics. Ocarina of Time, not at a blistering 60 fps at 1080p? Clearly rubbish.

well the game isn't really a hd remaster. its a brand new game with similar plot to an oldie. That's a key difference. This also is a full price game. Game isn't the prettiest thing, but even then not native resolution and only 30fps. Seems like valid complaints.

So far the game has been fun. The combat is very close to Seven and the graphics are good but they do look like there is some filter on it. The part I'm having the biggest issue with is direction. I am in the forest and really don't know what I'm supposed to do beside completely map it out. How long is the game supposed to be?

Any portable game running at non-native resolution is disappointing, regardless of what sort of game it is. I could understand it if they make the sacrifice to hit a higher framerate (higher than about 30) like, say, Call of Duty, but that wasn't the case here.

And 60FPS is an improvement from a gameplay perspective, not so much a visual one. Oath in Felghana feels smoother and more responsive on PC versus PSP. It's not a dealbreaker, but Ys being fast paced an action heavy makes it the sort of game that does benefit from a better framerate.

I've been on and off the fence with this. I ordered the Silver Edition, then cancelled it. Now I reordered it. Friday delivery.

Yeah I used it at the wrong time and it's like "GUARD GUARD GUARD GUARD 5 GUARD GUARD 1 GUARD"

D:

I kept trying runs to get the flash stuff down but blargh. I suck at it. I was good at it in Seven but I know the timing is much tighter constraint in Celceta.
