Ys: Memories of Celceta |OT|: The Ys-iest Purchase You'll Make All Year (Now For EUs)

It something I hope they address with the next Ys game if they are going forward with party based system. Honestly it would be nice if the dungeons and bosses it was a mix of party based and solo Adol. I know most people would prefer the latter but I enjoy the party system it just needs some adjustments.

My Ys Seven playthrough is almost done. The story bit after ruins island was surprisingly grim.

A lot of party members, wasn't expecting the substitutions.

On topic, I didn't use Calilica much, but largely because I didnt care for her design.

So I'm a little lost. Did the first 4 quests from the first town and I'm randomly running around the Forest. There is no quest to progress the story? I'm finding memory fragments here and there.

ugh, didn't enjoy the mid boss in the tower on nightmare. felt kinda janky.

the quest is to explore the forest. you'll get a cutscene at some point.

You're supposed to be making your way to the blue flags on the map.

Just got to the main twist in Ys Seven. At this point it seems very forced and clumsy, but I literally just arrived at that point. See if things clear up later.

Overall I think it has higher highs and lower lows than Celceta if that makes sense.

ok, just finished the game. I want to get the platinum but that mastering every skill with every character (and I only used Adol 90% of the time) makes me sad.

anyway, Ys IV, yes, it's really good. (minor spoilers ahead)
I played my first run on normal and the game has been too easy compared to other games like Ys III or Origin. I know that in this one you can use items while fighting but even without that I still think it'd be easier.
story-wise it's ok, some scenes were kind of cheesy and in particular I didn't really like one plot twist but I still enjoyed it. I was expecting more about pretty much everything. for example regarding the whole Darklings thing, the fight of Romun empire, more background story of the most important npcs like Griselda, Leo etc. but I guess some of this stuff will be in other games.
I know that in Ys VI is explained the whole incident between the Eldeen (winged ones) and the Darklings and apparantely that guy metioned by Frieda (his fiancé?) is also the Ys VI villain, I kind of wished they said more about him in this game.
also, the ending. I could say I'm disappointed because I am, since they showed almost nothing but I also understand what they were trying to do with the narrator pov. someone could say it's a "lazy way" to end the game but I didn't dislike it.

now I want to play Ys VI but I'm also tempted to try Ys V with a gamefaqs guide or something like that. from what I read Ys VI is more important and relevant to the "general plot" of the series while Ys V looks like a sort of filler like Ys III, correct me if I'm wrong.

the only thing you can do is search for a 100% map (just google it) and confront yours with that one. it's really annoying since for some spots you have to TOUCH the walls in order to "explore" it.

Is dungeon map count? I swear the count went up when I'm re-exploring underground ruin for a chest that I've left behind.

uhm, it does, but I'm not sure how it works. for example the last dungeon is needed to have 100% of the map, but you just need to "explore" the entrance.

anyway if you're missing something it's probably one of those outside spots.

Will be picking up the EU version of this during the week. Don't think I'll get round to it until I finish some other games but looking forward to trying it.

Have I missed an EU OT? I doubt many will be picking it up from here though so thinking there is no need for one.

i have a few enlarged gather points on the map in some caves. does that mean i missed some while exploring? i tried searching but couldn't find anything new.

^ If you u tap on it and there no blank lines then you got everything. The icon will still just stay there.

And there no eu ot.

Game should be out later today for EU. Small bump

Not in EU store so I guess it will be next week.

Man, why did NISA release this a week after Danganronpa? Another Vita game from the same publisher. NISA pls. I would have gone day 1 on this but I'll wait for a while cause of this :(.

And indeed OT is already in community and no EU OT it seems. Games like this could certainly use them but the EU release time is a bit unfortunate.

Planning on nabbing this at some point, though still need to finish the last of Ys I (and Ys II lol). I started playing while recovering from a car accident and was kind of enjoying it. But stopped right before the last few dungeons, and stopped while I was getting back into normal routine again. Think it's high time to get my Ys on again

How much would I be missing out on/having go over my head if I played this before Origins or something? Or should I play the others before I touch this one?

Got the game on the 14th here in EU. I was surprised, thought its the 21st but got a phonecall that i can already go and pick it up.

Couldnt play that much so far, did all the quests in the first town and explored around 20% of the forest. Really enjoying it, quickly wanna get back to it not sure when i can though. :(

I've been playing this a bit. Adol's childhood memories are a bit weird. Not because they're weird in themselves but I don't remember him getting backstory like that before.

Would import the game immediately if it was on PC. Too bad it isn't and probably never will, fuck you Falcom.

Wow... Are you insulting Falcom because they won't release their handheld game on PC? In that case, let's call out every developer that doesn't release PC games...

Ys games are episodic in their story/timeline. Beside a few references feel free to play them in whatever order.

Look at the PC market in Japan.

My game should arrive on Tuesday but I think it'll be a while until I play it. Mostly buying day one to support the series and NISA Europe for bringing the game over here.
I've only beaten Oath in Felghana but I'm sure this game is also great.

Hey guys, how worthwhile would it be to get the CE of this? Are the tracks on the CDs good? I liked Felghana's music a lot.

I would listen to the ost sample bit on amazon or just youtube it before considering it. Some of the track might be a hit or miss but it still a good ost, imo.

I think Celceta's soundtrack is worse than Felghana's and that seems to be a common opinion, but I'd say the CDs are still worth it because Celceta itself only takes up maybe 3/4 of the second disc. Still over 2 discs of other music from other Ys games, both OST songs and official arrangements, and there is only one song that overlaps from the previous LE CDs (full version of Innocent Primeval Breaker, as opposed to the short version on the Ys Seven CD).

The CE is pretty good. As a first time Ys player, I was quite impressed with the stuff that Tom and the rest of XSEED managed to pack into it. Definitely worth the money.

Picked it up last week, haven't got much time to play yet and only put in 2 hours so far but I'm enjoying it.

Graphically it looks pretty awful and the framerate doesn't always hold up but the battle system is very fun and I like the writing.

My only gripe is that Provincialism Ys track -- It was really that hard to put this instead? Sealed Time (or Seal of Time) SAV sucked hard too -- Tom should have used the /awesome/ PC Engine version. Too bad he likes these two albums :/

That Thieves of Brotherhood arrangement from Ys V Image Album wasn't very good either :/. The original was SO MUCH BETTER.

Everything else is damn good. I swear this is the best Falcom LE I've seen since Felghana PC.

XSEED, if you are looking, please give this game a PS+ discount soon.
already bought the physical CE but I rather have it digital and enjoy the convenience :p

I've never played any Ys games before, do I need to know the previous stories to understand this game? Obviously I can just play it but I don't want to be really confused.
Also, will this game go down, $40 is a little too much for me at the moment :(

Nah, the story is nearly entirely stand alone. No recurring characters outside of Adol, and unless I'm forgetting something, none of his past adventures (chronologically) are referenced.
