Ys: Memories of Celceta |OT|: The Ys-iest Purchase You'll Make All Year (Now For EUs)

ahhh that frieda video is making it very hard to put this game on my backlog...
i don't know - being able to zip around made the game feel really snappy. i loved not having to walk around.

Everyone have different taste, there is nothing wrong.
I actually enjoyed the flash guard more so than the dodge, it felt like a parry more than a guard where you stun them and get extra charge if done correctly, if you failed the timing you take double damage. It's so satisfying to get it right! (not that's its hard tho')

those with amazon. is yours coming fedex?

Dimensions 10x7x2 in.
Total shipment weight 2 lbs / 0.9 kgs

doesn't sound like an envelope thank god.

I dun goofed and didn't select expedited shipping from Best Buy. (I get it free). I'll be lucky if I get it by Saturday.

Just called EB Games and they didn't get my pre-order in yet. The game wasn't on their shipping list, but it might still show up tomorrow, was what I was told.

Ok folks!

I waited until tonight to read this thread. Now I'm all caught up and ready to join in the party. I confirmed today that my copy will be ready for pickup tomorrow at Gamestop.

Havent played a Ys game since OiF's release. I knew of the series as a kid on the TG-16 at Babbages, but I didn't "discover" the series until Ys 7 on the PSP. I even went back and played Ys 6 for the PS2 .

So of the three Ys games I have played, 7 is definitely my favorite. I hope Celceta improves on that. Our local Xseed marketer is definitely doing his job, but he hyped me up with the emphasis on the huge world.

Let's do this folks! Havent stayed in a OT from Day 1 until thread-dead since MLB '13 on Vita.

It was their default when they first started doing it, and now they changed it. When I ordered Puppateer yesterday they tried to give me standard shipping but I refused to let them get away with that!

You know what, I don't think I'm gonna wait until the European release of this, gonna import it. I remember having insane amounts of fun with Ys 7, especially the dodging mechanic, which was really satisfying. Hopefully this will be just as fun.

That's not how PSN works, sadly! You have to wait until the regular Tuesday update, which usually happens... midday sometime.

-Tom
Well, it CAN work that way. Just not often, and usually only with AAA games.

Too bad no one really does this outside of those big AAA games (and sometimes games related to them), Nintendo usually makes us wait until 9 AM PST/PDT, Steam generally gets stuff up at 10 AM, and the less said about PSN the better. Xbox may be close, but then it's whenever early AM so it may bite you in the ass trying to stay up late to get a game only to be ready to pass out by the time it IS there.

So I've never played YS....in fact I purchased the SAE simply because the gameplay looked incredibly fun, In other words as a fan of narratives (Im a writer :) where should/should I do some research on the lore of this series? Or will this title inform me of the essentials before further developing?

PSN is like an Ys game: every Tuesday, Grace Chen finds herself stranded in an office with amnesia and she has to remember why she's there. Preferably by the end of the day.

Nah, that's just this Ys game.

Every other Ys game is a bloody haze of flying body parts, kickass music, and Anime.

So any reviews floating around? Cause between no reviews and no player impressions I am sort of worried about picking it up soon. :(

Aeana played the import and you should be able to find other import impressions online, probably even an import OT here (It was called Foliage Ocean of Celceta in Japan, looking at that title should make it obvious why it was changed here.) Sounds like it's better than Ys Seven and I enjoyed that, so I expect to like this plenty.

EDIT: Yep, a site:neogaf.com Ys Foliage Ocean of Celceta search turned up this for the Japanese version OT. And it was Foliage Ocean IN Celceta, man at a minimum they'd have to change the preposition if you ask me.

Thanks! I shall check that out. I never played a Ys game before so that why I was a bit more worried than normal.

You'll be absolutely fine jumping in on this one -- the Ys series is very episodic. Each game (with a rare exception here and there) opens with Adol Christin arriving in some new land to find it plagued by evil, and ends with him setting sail for the next land after having saved the day.

There IS overarching lore (quite a lot of it, in fact), but it's kind of secondary to the gameplay, and each game makes a point of catching you up on anything you might need to know.

Celceta is probably a really good place to start, too, as it's loosely based on Ys IV, and Ys IV was the game that introduced a lot of the overarching story elements that play a big role in other titles (like the Romun army). Celceta takes it one step farther, too, by giving Adol amnesia and slowly restoring his memory as the game goes on, filling in more details than any other telling of Ys IV ever has.

Thanks! I shall check that out. I never played a Ys game before so that why I was a bit more worried than normal.

I wouldn't worry too much. The Ys series has survived this long for a reason, and Celceta is a fine entry in it. The only real worry is whether or not it's the TYPE of game you'll enjoy -- but if you like action RPGs, I can't imagine you NOT liking Celceta.

Shit. Forgot I ordered the crazy collector's edition thingy and it's now winging its way to me. Don't really need it in EU PS4 launch week plus Mario 3D. My wallet am cry.

I should have been clearer: it's not specifically in regards to Ys Celceta. That will definitely not be discounted on PS+ -- at least, not anytime soon. Sorry!

Well, it IS about time for some news on next month's free Plus games, and I doubt there's going to be last minute addition to Plus sales, so I'll just have to wait and see what's planned.
God dammit it's Sumioni for free isn't it?

I'll be happy to have a sale on the older Games so my Vita becomes a portable Ys haven hehe

but Sony should really have a system for those of us who bought both to have some benefits

can't wait!

So...after this game....does the vita have anything else?

Literally bought a vita for this.

Also, how do I mitigate the probability of burn in on my old screen ?

I don't even own a Vita and I bought this, there's several games I'm interested in like Demon Gaze and Dangaronpa(already played it but you should if you haven't).

I almost never buy localised versions of Japanese games I have completed, but I am going to buy this one because it is such a special game.

I'm interested in like Demon Gaze

One of the Vita's hidden gems. It's far better than any other dungeon crawler I've played on the current portables.

We'll have Persona... Dancing. GET HYPE.

But as noted there's some other games coming out like Dangan Ronpa, and if we get crazy lucky with localizations or far more likely you cram and learn Japanese to a decent level of fluency there's Sen no Kiseki and the Zero and Ao ports. And by "crazy lucky" I mean "somehow miracles are pulled off in rabid succession to get caught up so we can even get the Vita releases before the system's dead." And that would be dead as in lived to its maximum possible length, not that it dies prematurely which unfortunately does look more likely.

Considering after Celceta I still want to get Tearaway, Project Diva f, Danganronpa and Demon Gaze and Toukiden, I sure as hell have no real reason to be worried about my Vita and a lack of games right now. Then as for the uncertain stuff, God Eater 2 should come out eventually, too, and there's also the new Persona Dancing now, which if Diva games are any indicator, should probably be released here as well. Oh, and Gravity Rush 2. And Freedom Wars. And I believe yosp will deliver Oreshika to us.

Anyway, few hours left. Grace Chen waiting time is intensifying right now! Good!

Last Ys I played were the OG Ys I, II and III on MSX2 20+ years ago. Seems like since then about 1745 Ys games have come out, with multiple remakes of older titles - sorta daunting. Has there been any sidescrolling Ys after/since Ys III? I have fond memories of the game and liked the platformer/RPG gameplay.

No, they never really went back to the sidescrolling gameplay. However! If you enjoyed Ys III then you should most likely check out Ys: The Oath in Felghana, which is the Ys III remake Falcom did a bunch of years ago. It's avaible on PSP/PSN and on Steam and for most people it's probably the best game in the series. It keeps the platforming/RPG mix, but now on a 3D engine and honestly, it's simply a fantastic game. Really fast paced, charming graphics and one of THE most kickass soundtracks in the history of gaming. Ys III's stuff was already great -- the arrangements just take it to a whole new level.

Here's a little video of someone playing a bit of Felghana. Can skip to like ~2:30 for him on an actual dungeon.

As for Celceta, though, it's quite different from the one above. Plays more like a 'regular' A-RPG, I guess, and the jump/platforming was replaced by a roll move used to dodge enemies' attacks. On the other hand, the RPG component of it got beefed up quite a lot, so it's definitely more robust in that area ;V
