Zelda has slipped to 2006

Yes that market screenshot looks awful. Why is every other shot beautiful, while another looks like its from the N64? Will Nintendo have a hard time making a high population map?

Either way the game is looking pretty dam good. Glad I own a cube.

That goblin/gremlin creature is the first genuinely creepy looking character I've seen in any game recently. I like it.

Let me be the 23123123132 to say : NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

but at least we won't get a half-assed game....am I RITE ?

The disaster here isn't so much that we'll have to wait another three or four months for Zelda -- that's not really bad -- but that Nintendo went from having a shaky holiday lineup to an abysmal one.

They could have had nothing but Zelda for the fourth quarter and it would have still been a great Christmas for GameCube owners. Now, it's just... absolutely... unprecedentedly... awful.

Now there's only FEPOR, and you know how forgettable that is.

Fire Emblem, Stubbs, and KH II. Holy fuck. Thank god for handhelds.

1up/IGN/Eurogamer all have the news.. how come GameSpot doesn't have a 24 hour breaking news intern there to break the story?

honestly, who cares about the market implications for nintendo. gamecube is dead. gamecube doesn't matter. this is good for zelda. zelda matters. be happy.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Super Mario Strikers will be my only Gamecube purchases this holiday season, it seems.

Give us Nintendo Puzzle Collection, Doshin the Giant, or Chibi Robo to make up for this huge void now.

At the very least a demo disk. God.

Too busy covering PS3 movie videos?

Good god, this makes me a sad panda.

On the plus side, that picture with the water looks fucking gorgeous!

If a big team like the one working on Zelda (one of the, if not THE biggest Nintendo francise nowadays) is going to need FIVE more months on completing this damn game someone fucked up real bad.

Nintendo has confirmed that its main hope for Christmas, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on GameCube, has slipped to 2006. The platform holder says creative leads Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma want it to spend more time in development, and said the result would be a "more enjoyable gaming experience".

Despite the unveiling of its next-generation Revolution console and a new iteration of the Game Boy design, Twilight Princess was arguably Nintendo's biggest draw at this year's E3 conference in Los Angeles, and news that it will miss the end of the year is likely to be viewed as a huge blow for Nintendo.

In a statement released worldwide this morning, Nintendo said: "Our development team has decided to take extra time to add some incredible new elements to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. As a result, the game will now launch in 2006 globally. We recognise there may be some disappointed fans; however we firmly believe this additional time will result in a more enjoyable gaming experience."

The statement went on to point out that Mario Smash Football (née Super Mario Strikers), Battalion Wars, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness would all be out in time for Christmas.

In order to try and lift dampened spirits, Nintendo released seven new screenshots of Twilight Princess to accompany the statement.

sorry it took me some time to believe the news.. I was looking at the date and it wasn't 1st of April :( .. .

this sucks for me.. I only have 4 months a year to play games now Jan-Feb and Jul-Aug...

Probably olimarios fucking fault, they need those months to add grass to every area in the game.
And I hope they will fix the drawdistance, it was gorgeous in Wind Waker. (if memory serves me well)

Those low res textures kill the whole fucking game... I guess it will look ok on my 30cm screen.
These aren't exactly your native resolution pics, either.

Ah, this sucks, there's something special about playing Zelda during the holidays, like with OOT :(

Still, it'd be stupid to port it to Revolution. I mean, the game isn't even complete yet, porting to Revolution would delay it way longer than you'd think most likely (as in, it'd never make Rev. launch, idiots). Also, a Rev. Zelda is most definitely in the works anyway.

they should delay fire emblem too and do something about the graphics.

edit:
MARIO BASEBALL WILL HIT A "GRAND SLAM" FOR NINTENDO THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

maybe it's cos i'm sleepy, but that's the funniest thing i've ever read on gaf. i think the quotation marks around "grand slam" do it.

"After much discussion, the Zelda development team has requested extra time to add levels, depth and quality to Zelda: Twilight Princess," said Nintendo of America's vice president of corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan.

Fixed.

It may be to make the game better, longer, more complete, or whatever, but this news is still lame as ever. Fire Emblem will be great and Mario Strikers could be alright, but Zelda was pretty much the last gamecube game I wanted to play and now I have to wait EVEN LONGERRR TO PLAY IT. CURSE YOU NINTENDOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'd preffer delaying it to late 2006 and release it on REV instead...

make it a launching title with Smash Online...
Assuming Revoultion was going to be $199 standalone, I wouldn't be surprised if they bundled Zelda with it and charged $229-$249

Getting delayed sucks but I'm fine with it. They said they want to make the game even better so I'm all for that. Also, the Rev is backwards compatible with GC games so switching it to Rev is not necessary.

Not necessarily. Since GC and Rev use the same software libraries, most of the changing they'd do would be graphics. Almost all the code could be left intact as it is, if I'm not mistaken.

I was utterly left down by TWW, so I haven't really been anticipating TP in that almost obsessive way like I use to do with new Zelda games. This is a good thing for me, the delay doesn't even bother me.

I'm glad, that way they'll have time to (hopefully) polish this baby into something truly spectacular!

Then they should release it as a GameCube title. You don't want to release a GameCube title under the Revolution name.

Unless you're implying they should release Zelda for GameCube @ Rev. launch, which would be really stupid IMO. I'd rather seperate my Zelda from all the Rev. launch goodness (Smash Bros. online, well, if that makes launch :lol).

EDIT: Oh, I get what you're saying, just bump up the graphics and leave the rest alone.

Even then, this process would take a very long time. Where do you guys get off thinking moving a game to a new console and upgrading the graphics doesn't take that long? Especially a game this seemingly huge? I mean it's more a matter than using sharper textures.
