Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

Jesus, it runs at max settings with no frame drops on my PC, I don't think I'll be getting it on XBone.

Granted there's some pretty heavy network lag, but that'll depend on each game.

This shit is absurdly fun, though.

I'm playing on Xbone right now and there are definitely frame drops when the shit hits the fan. PC is the way to go for this and that's what I've been planning to buy it for all along. I will say that the Xbox controls are great though.

I hope they don't, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them nerf titan movement. Dudes can fly all over the damn place if you've got your dashes on check.

Recorded a game where I think I ran into a bug. Start of the match feels like I had prosthetic legs enabled. Also got my quickest double kill cause melee is silly as hell. Also got a pretty good titan run in there.

WOW, I am ready to eat crow.

Whenever I saw previews or read impressions, I was like "why is everyone hyping this up? It's looks like COD with robots."

Just played two matches on PC and it might be the most fun I've had in a multiplayer game in a LONG time!

Choatic as hell, but the fast pace and freerunning makes it really exhilarating. The Titans also control very well. I was dreading that they would feel slow and lumber around, but they're pretty fucking agile.

Also, have a 7.4 K/D at the moment. lol.

Having a lot of fun with this. I'm really glad you don't have to slowly grind out levels, in one match I went from level 4 to 7. Seems like the levels are there simply to ease you into all the features, I'm ok with unlocks when they are this fast.

Was able to connect somehow and got in my first three games, and here are my impressions so far:

The gunplay feels great though I wish there was more recoil.

Movement feels tight and responsive.

Maps are nice and big but not too big and empty.

Piloting a titan feels great, you feel really powerful yet vulnerable because you're such a big target.

AI is very questionable, Ive seen grunts shoot me on sight while others have ran straight by me.

Overall the game is very fun and I plan on purchasing it later on due to other games taking priority.

I liked it so far, but it really does seem like Call of Duty: Future Warfare. It really is going to need a lot of variety if it wants to compete with CoD. It needs lots of maps with the ability to jump fairly easy across them. It also needs a reason for levelling up, but can't be too unbalanced. I wonder if there will be a prestige mode...To be honest I had fun, but am kind of nervous this game won't have legs.

Finally got in and played 6 or 7 matches, all Attrition. I had a ton of fun! It took me a few matches to get a good handle on all of the different abilities offered to the player/titans, but I finally started getting into a groove later on. I had really bad stuttering but I now know it's because I had textures on extreme (I'm running a gtx 680 2gb).

It's interesting to learn that enabling v-sync allows more than 60fps. I'll have to try that when I play again tomorrow. I'm also looking forward to trying Hardpoint.

My two highlights are as follows:
• I'm in a 1on1 fight with another titan, we're both hurting pretty bad. We both hit Doomed status about the same time and in desperation I hit the melee key. I ripped the other player out of his titan, threw his carcass across the map, then hit eject at the last second as my titan exploded below me. Badass!

• We started on Fracture and I flanked way around the side of the map. I ended up getting the drop on several players, and, with luck, was able to out-gun a few more. At this point I had a 10+ streak (including grunts) and called in the first titan. I was able to survive for quite a while with the titan as well.

What I don't like:
• The Smart Pistol. I understand its limitations, but it still feels like bullshit to get killed by someone that's not even aiming.

• No jumping with the titans. This was obviously a design decision that was probably deliberated quite a bit. I get why the titans can't jump, but it sucks to get hung up on a small piece of geometry when you're trying to boost away from danger.

• As others have said, the PCs really need to be more defined vs. the AI. When you run into a PC hiding among a group of AI it's really hard to notice, until it's too late.

Played for a few hours now, game is super fun.

I feel like the tutorial should've focused a lot more on the parkour elements though. Most pilots in the matches I've played so far (Xbox One version) aren't really wall-running or doing any of the advanced traversal that makes this game special. From watching DKo5's stream on Twitch last night I was blown away by how fast he was jumping from building to building and doing all kinds of crazy stuff, but most people will never know that kind of stuff is possible because the tutorial kind of glosses over it with just a very basic example of wallrunning across a gap.

I finally played and totally agree with you. I am not a CoD fan and this isn't CoD but there is that measure of I see you first and your dead.

I finally was able to play a few hours. Personally it's fun and I enjoy the game play. Kinda chaotic sometimes and I feel like you die way too fast? I can understand why the devs made it this way. Even though I enjoy the few matches I play, this feels way too similar to CoD. Its fun and extremely enjoyable but doesnt catch my full attention. Maybe I need more time playing with some friends.

Really is not a fair criticism, and I made the same one prior to playing it. The verticality of the combat, parkour-esque wall running, etc. are all exceedingly well done. The big problem is the two maps that they have do not make great use of those features. I was expecting that I would be wall running/jumping all over the place like it was super metroid, which is not the case.

The big problem in the room though is the fact that pilot+titan on follow>piloting a titan
How is it not a fair point to make given that I've played it for hours and played several COD titles previously? The game has additional features of course, but it's clearly just going after the COD formula with those additional features on top.

Guns, check. ADS, check.

It's COD you guys.

What I like:
-Parkour
-Player movement speed

What I don't like:
-Way too much A.I.
-Too difficult to tell A.I. from players at distance
-Titans are too tanky
1. Titan vs. Titan combat takes too long and is too spammy
2. Titan vs. Player combat devolves into players hiding and taking potshots at titans while the titans one shot any player they find.
-The ending escape is too repetitive

Overall I'm a bit disappointed. While I love how the player movement feels I don't enjoy anything about the titans or the A.I. One of my biggest issues is how titans and A.I. mess up scoring. With various numerical amounts and numerous sources of score I don't have any sense of "one kill left and we win!" or"we're only two kills behind, we can do this!"

kd/r using a controller on PC is 1.2 against humans and like 7 something overall.

My one complaint is how hard it is to distinguish the enemy pilots from the AI. I don't want to give up my position to take down a spectre.

I am not a CoD fan and this isn't CoD but there is that measure of I see you first and your dead.

No measure about it, that is exactly what it is. Like I said before, it is actually worse, you die faster here than you did in CoD. Plenty of time I was using the AR shooting someone 2-3 buildings over, peppered them in less than two seconds. Mind you I'm not the greatest shot, but the AR has nearly no recoil.

Oh, and of complaints, I have two:

Lobby times are too long. Or I just want to be playing again sooner.

Burn Card decks need to be much easier sorted. Scrolling one by one, even quickly, isn't going to cut it when you have a ton of unused cards. Best to display by card category and show your card count and allow you to select from those.

Yeah, I agree on lobby times feeling too long. It's either that or Attrition in general feels overly short but it's not a great balance so far.

I die far less in this game than cod personally. I have long periods with my titan. Its fun as shit.

Servers finally work now.

It seems Full RGB works for sub 1080p games thanks to the update to improve the scaler, my X1 screens in 720p, and I'm not doing 1080p pics either.

I'm happy to not see crushed blacks.=p

Dropping a titan on enemy titan is so fulfilling. The only thing I hate about the game is that there's more bots on screen than there are actual players. I get so many more kills on bots than I do on other players.

Can anyone explain the ending escape to me?

If you make it to the dropship, what is the benefit?

Just extra points. Maybe some easy kills if you play it right, if you're in the ship you can shoot out but they can't shoot in.

That works in reverse too. Winner gets bonus points for slaughtering the team and also blowing up the ship.

The A.I. is supposed to be brain dead. It's a way for players without skill to feel they're getting something out of the match, and if A.I. could embarrass those same players by being able to successfully target them and even kill them, it'd ruin half the point. The other point of the A.I. is for farming for Titanfall drops. Seriously, just round 'em up and eviscerate them. If you got a team member with a smart pistol, drop them fools like it's christmas and you'll start to get titan falls quicker than the other team can say "no skill bonanza!"

The strategy is to have a team that knows where to look for these A.I. bots and then farm them, and then synchronize the way you drop your titans. If you do it properly and set the titans to follow you, it's over.

Something probably has to be done about the smart pistol I am getting rounds that look like 15/3/3 with it effortlessly because its a zero skill weapon. The ability to clean up tons of bots in one button press is ridiculous as well I got 3-4 titans a round.

Even if you don't wait for the full lock you can still fire the gun. The lock times need to be increased and it almost needs to not have a manual fire mode. Or make it a burn card only weapon.

I really don't understand all the complains of "The A.I. sucks" that I've been reading. Obviously they are made to be stupid. As far as I can tell, what you've described here is EXACTLY how Respawn meant for the game to be played, and I think it works well within that framework. I can't even imagine the hate this game would get if there were even semi-competent bots running around slaughtering people.

Played about an hour of the PC beta. Its fun but not the level I was expecting. The smart pistol is stupid. I dont know why it is in the game. The battles can get INTENSE sometimes.

Dont know if I will be keeping my preorder though. Its not a bad game, just doesnt feel like $60 to me.

Competent bots would be terrible, I like the way it is currently.

I think people want them to be just a little bit more evasive. Not better at aiming or doing more damage. I agree I think it fits the meta perfectly but it would be nice to see them take cover when shot at and not just stand there waiting for a headshot.

I really really wish you could use a 360 controller on Xbone. I Hate the Xbone sticks, might end up just buying this on 360.

Bots seem to go for titans a lot. Specter's can fuck you up with rockets, it's actually pretty good to hack them.

But yeah, I'm not surprised to see such a mixed reaction to the bots here. Though it all seems clearly intended as they even have a bunch of pretty funny lines in awe of how amazing the pilots are.

Yeah agree getting killed by bots would legit piss me off. I like the role they serve atm i.e. filling in the gaps while not being a serious obstacle. Imo game is hectic enough as it is without have killer bots running around.
