I still think that if he was standing behind that pilot for a couple seconds with a carbine, the guy would be just as dead. The pistol really requires you catch them by surprise to be effective, and in that situation with any other weapon you'd still kill them. It's as much skill as the shotgun requires, but the shotgun works far better while dashing or being shot.

Nah, it's not OP. All of those kills were on retreating foes or otherwise enemies with their backs turned. They are easy kills with any gun. Note he doesn't really have any examples of fights that are normal 1v1's...because they're very hard to win with the smart pistol. If you have time to get 3 locks, they were dead with whatever weapon you may have equipped.

Those things are so worthless. I think you'd have to hit a titan with about 500 rounds to kill one.

Titans seen really hard to down without another titan. Which I guess is probably the point.

Not really. Ive done really well using it in conjuction with mine or a friendly titan who is engaged with an enemy titan. Oh, and it really catches titans who are running away from battle to recharge off guard.

Not so sure I am gonna pick this one up. The shooting mechanics are not quite to my taste and the mech combat is limited in scope. I will just enjoy Hawken some more.

Its only OP when going up against people who aren't very good with what they have or simply haven't spotted you (which means they'd die anyway), when playing against people of equal skill a carbine or shotgun is much better to have against a pilot, the lock on and range on a smart pistol is easily countered by the range and quickness of a carbine and the damage output and spread of a shotgun.

I'm actually finding it very strange to see people call the smart pistol OP, if you die by the smart pistol then you'd have died even if the pilot had used any other weapon.

The key to the smart pistol is mobility, whilst you can be mobile with every other weapon they are still very good when standing still (heck even better really), the smart pistol is the opposite, its really dangerous to use standing still (due to the lock time) and needs to be used while mobile (to avoid being shot while it locks) - for me the smart pistol is a creep weapon (easily the best gun for downing creeps) and a cloak, speed perk pilot assassination weapon (if you can get the drop on a pilot).

I think the smart pistol is my favourite gun from any game ever. I am absolutely dominating with it. It takes a while to lock on even with the perk so if I beat you face on then you just need to get better at aiming.

Smart pistol is good for farming bots or catching someone that's cloaked and camping against some good scenery.

Other than that, shotgun and AR TTK is just so much better.

Then again, it depends on how you play and approach encounters and maps.

I'm still iffy on whether this is worth the 70 dollar price tag.

So far the beta/demo has been alright I guess, but I have my doubts the final product is going to justify the price and the always-on requirement (SimCity makes me concerned here).

If it were to launch with 16 maps it would be easily worth it. There's a campaign multiplayer thing too with story implemented into the maps.

The whole no single player thing seems ridiculous considering whatever 4 hour SP mode they were to add would be a brief in comparison to the hours someone would spend in MP.

But yes, cases like SimCity makes me very concerned, and the communication issues Respawn and EA are having don't make me optimistic.

You guys should put in some sort of checkpoint race mode.

Does anyone else find themselves not looking at the game/team score or even the match rankings while playing. I noticed that I don't even care during matches I'm having so much fun. Which is why hiding the K/D from other players and it only being able to be viewed by you is great idea.

I'm just having fun trying to fight other players, getting into gun battles with them. Try to evade them and them me by jumping all over the place. There are times when I simply just call my titan down and let it rampage as I try to cover it or protect an hardpoint. Try to bring down the shields of a titan so mine can finish it off. Love jumping on other titans and seeing how much damage I can do. I think a one point while on one I call down my titan and had it crash right into it as the one I was one moved toward the land area. Insanely satisfying.

Even when my side loses and we have to leave I don't feel frustrated about losing. If I do during a match simply mowing down some of the grunts usually makes me feel better in the end.

Wow, I played this too much today. Good game.

Sitting in the B hardpoint in Angel City with an SMG. Titan patrolling outside. Defence 2500+ nice try fellas.

The sad thing is, this is probably the most fun I'll ever have with this game, because there are a lot of shitty people :P

Once people get good, this game is all but worthless to me...

Movement in this game is so amazing, jumping and strafing mid jump during 1 on 1 pilot fights is really great.
I also like to destroy Titans as a pilot with that automatic weapon. It is really fun and gives a lot of satisfaction.

Call of Duty with mechs.

You can see the influence because this was done by the creators of Call of Duty but that's where it ends I feel. This isn't a Call of Duty clone at all. As soon as you learn to wall run, jump, and realize you should not simply stick to the ground and can fire freely no matter where you are it all changes. Tactics certainly different. Which is why I'm glad they force the tutorial on you when first play. I think the wall running section should be a lot longer.

I can see those wanting a newer Call of Duty getting really frustrated though. Already in voice chat I've run across a few people really annoyed by all the jumping and wall running. Complaining it's "Halo crap". That's part of the fun and one of the ways you stay alive. Alive at least long enough to call down your titan quicker. There are no kill streaks so people should be taking a LOT of chances as they play. Should be constantly trying to engage others in a variety of ways. Otherwise you won't have any fun I think and should stimply stick with Call of Duty.

I would approach this the way you would approach Battlefield. Realize you can do a LOT more then simply run around and inside of a map on the ground and shoot. Understand that kill streaks don't exist so sitting back to try and get enough kills shouldn't be done. Take advantage of what the games offer. For Battlefield that is tanks, boats, ships and the environment. For Titanfall so far it's the jumping, wall running, cloaking, vertical nature of the map (that building has multiple doors, broken walls, windows and levels. You can enter through them all.), and the Titans (which everyone can call. Just matters how quickly it's done.)

Man, when this game works, it WORKS, y'know what I mean? Blasting someone out of the sky with a shotgun after you had your Titan detonate to cause damage to the winner of your duel is pretty cool. So many ways to get even here. And the shotgun is my weapon of choice.

Its weird, I like being on the loosing side, I just love the fun of trying to get from one side of the map to the other to catch the drop ship without dying.

Last match, we lost and was in my titan: I sneaked around the buildings and made my way to the drop ship, once there I was getting hit hard and ejected at the last second - I went strait up into the ship and then the nuke went off - I think I killed every enemy there (it was just a stream of MajorMelchett in the kill feed)..

It was glorious :D.

I'm terrible at this game. Specifically playing as a titan. I just can't figure out any good tactics as one. If I stay to the edges, there's nothing to shoot. If I go after anyone, I seem to explode in 10 seconds. For now I have more fun on foot running atop buildings (until some jackass snipes me:) I also have no idea how I see some people have 20, 30+ drone kills. I usually end up with like 6 pilot, 6 drone kills.

You give up massive range and the lockon time even with the perk is far too long. The Carbine is a better weapon unless you are fighting close-mid range and using the mobility of the weapon to farm bots / use terrain against people.

Not a really good argument. It doesn't lockon per shot

The smart pistol has way too much range as it is.

I want a kit that makes smart lock on take twice as long as normal.

im loving the game so far but its gonna be hard to justify the $60 on day one. ill probably pick it up once there is a good sale for 50% off. other than that, is anyone else having the game crash often? im playing in borderless windowed mode and it crashes about every 3 games or so.

Playing borderless windowed here, game has never crashed in 30+ games.

Already preordered and paid for. I'm at level 14. I love it and I expected to not like it from early video impressions.

I wish we could get some more solid info on weapons/maps etc. At this point not even close to enough to make an OT which is a bit unusual right? less than a month from launch we usually have all this info… unless I'm missing all of it

I agree.

BUT

Anyone else who has played the PC and the Xbox version noticed that the rocket launcher is stronger in the Xbox version? Maybe it's just, but I seem to take a huge chunk out of Titans on XB, but on PC it was to the point I didn't even bother trying to take them out because it would barely hurt them. I know the shield takes some of the brunt. I will test this more later.

I was lucky enough to get a Strider burn card. Dropped that thing just as the match started and everyone else was like "WTF, how does he have that Titan and why does he have it right at the start of the match!" I lol'd hardily.

Haha amazing, I have an ogre one but haven't used it yet.

Have you played it yet? Yes, the free running is definitely not CoD. Core gameplay IS CoD through and through. Come back at me and fill me in on how differently it plays, once you've actually played it.

The shooting feels CoDy for sure, but to simpify the game like that(which I see a lot) does a huge disservice to the game. The mixture of traversal combined with the gunplay flips the style completely.

I just realized they aren't archived on twitch. Lost to the wind. :(

Not all hope is lost! I locally archived it. Cutting out the lobbies and non-match sections now, then will upload to Youtube. The multi-encodes will make it look like butts, but whatevs.

Also a good chance I'll party up with dudes from work and stream some more later on :)

I don't like the AI bots.

Why do we need them at all? Just get rid of them and make it 6v6...?

Or better yet, make the maps bigger and make it 32 pilots vs 32 pilots?
