Thinking on it, the Yu-Gi-Oh anime is on some straight up bullshit.

Every good duel needs a soundtrack.

Summoned Skull does more damage because it's raining in real life.

Yugi fuses his skeleton mammoth with an arrow, fires it at Kaiba, and causes his dragon to melt.

He's truly the King of Games, provided he can make the rules up on the spot.

Fucking Hell is this the new one? My little brother doesn't watch it because he said to me Zexal sounds like SEXal. *shrug*

It's terrible. A completely terrible series.

Makes the first series seems great in comparison. Even with the terrible dub dialogue.

Goddammit, and now I hear the anime at one point people dueled while riding MOTORCYCLES?

5D's is fantastic, bro. Fairly well written too.

As for the original series, just skip ahead to the last half of season 5. It basically pulls a Sailor Moon in terms of "kiddy show that suddenly gets dark and epic as hell convincingly."

it doesn't help that koonami licensing bullshit resulted in no text on the cards of the english dub, which really emphasizes how people pretty much were just making shit up.

Anyone remember when kaiba programmed a virus into his blue eyes which was played by the fake?

To be fair that was during Duelist Kingdom, which didn't even really have rules. See also: Joey's first duel with Mai, or the Paradox Brothers BS, or Panic.

I was very happy Battle City actually made things very similar to the actual card game.

I heard 5Ds was actually good. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the card game, but I only watched a bit of the anime (some of the Duel City arc). Heard GX is a mixed bag, 5Ds was good, and nothin' on Zexal. And now there's Arc-V next month!

Shame. I think I remember it getting some positive nods here and there. I was kinda surprised. And sceptical.

All this talk of Yugi-boy reminded me Shaman King. Remember that? I loved it.Dat intro song.

To me 5D's is the only one that felt really planned out the whole way through. Haven't seen Zexal though aside from a dub ep that had me wretching in horror at the VA's.

WTF is going on in this? As someone who has only played the game when it first came out and everyone had the same 2-3 decks, I can honestly say I have absolutely no idea what that guy is saying and why he is able to play 20 cards in 1 turn.

Some sort of degenerate combo. Advanced card games like YGO and MTG have combos where you play like 30 cards in one turn to do something stupid. Or "go infinite" with a kind of endless loop.

I don't understand half of what he was saying, but he has deck based around a few cards that do damage based on the number of cards in the discard pile. His deck must be full of every card he can find that lets him discard stuff to search for or draw more cards.

The game seems to already have been going for a while, but he got on a roll with a few cards and managed to discard the remainder of his deck, then flipped 3 cards that deal damage, killing his opponent.

Self-mill. You use a combo to burn through as much of your deck (or all of it) in one turn as possible to get specific cards you need to win on your first or second turn.

I ran Gearfried + Butterfly Dagger + Royal Magical Library in high school with Chaos Emperor Dragon for a similar instant win. Along with Painful Choice just in case it was early in the duel and I couldn't play CED yet. Used the traditional banlist so it was within the rules.

Was Card Captor Sakura based on a game property? I enjoyed the hell out of that show. Might be nostalgia talking, but it felt at least a little more mature than Pokemon or Yugi-oh at the time.

Card Captor Sakura was based on an original manga series.

It is also a classic whereas Pokemon and YGO were cash-ins. Also keep in mind that the YGO manga predates the YGO game, whereas the Pokemon games predate the Pokemon anime.

I was aware of the manga, but wasn't sure if there was a card game that went with it. But thinking about it now, I don't remember there being any mechanics to fighting those loose creatures akin to how pokemon or Yugi-oh monsters fight.

Of course not... How would you play a TCG with Card Captor Sakura's cards?

I would like to guffaw, but honestly He-Man and GI Joe weren't all that more intellectual.

Well, I'm sure there are "games" that can be played with Tarots and, excluding all the anime filler cards, the Clow Cards were pretty much a Tarot deck.

This thread makes me want to go and watch 5D's. I skipped it since GX was mediocre and the idea of duels in motorcycles looked silly. I started watching Zexal just to see what Xyz summoning is about and its complete crap

Yugioh Dark Duel Stories for GBC is the shit. Best damn card game ever. Ive played it on and off for years and still haven't beaten it. But it always grabs my attention again when I go to it. So much content in a small game.

Loved that game.

Was so pissed I didn't get the Exodia/BEWD/DM SKU though. >=/

Seiyaryu, what are you even good for?!

Zexal gets quite better in later episodes. 5D's is just great, specially the first two arcs.

The rules are so broken though. Nothing like the real TCG! I guess that has its own appeal though.

I loved watching the show as a kid, but man was it stupid at times.

Also, when playing with my friends and them playing a monster i was like
