Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

I bought an S60! Yay!

What should i use for HDMi switching? it only has 2x ports
And does anyone know a good calibration for the S60?

I've got a Pioneer 500m that was damaged during a move (panel separation, pixel width green line for half of the screen vertically). I have found a used 500m for $700 or a 65'' S64 for $1000 + tax + uhaul rental. Which should I get GAF? I'm used to 500m PQ, but the jump in size would be nice too. This is primarily for gaming with some movie watching.

Bigger is always better and the blacks on an S64 aren't so different from the Pioneer that you would notice unless you did a side by side comparison in a dark room.

$1,270 SONY W900A Best buy display model...

buy it? Help me GAF!

Edit: with stand, 4 glasses, remote, and geek squad for 5 years would be $270ish more....

Grand total with Geek Squad would be ~$1700 after tax

lol, are they holding the accessories ransom with the protection plan? That's great.

Either way, if the TV is in perfect shape, thats not bad

No ransom... Just that they have those accessories as well.

Shoul I get the protection plan as well being that the unit is being discontinued and it was a display model for perhaps a year on the wall?

A bump to maybe catch a few more feedback thoughts...

How's the 3D on the W900A? I read cnets review, but I wonder how anyone on GAFs experience has been?

$1270 plus 270 geek squad 5 year warranty plus it has the stand, remotes, 4 glasses. Grand Total should be $1,700.

What say you!?

See if the TV would be eligible for Squaretrade warranty instead.

Then just buy it, forget the glasses. You can get them cheaper elsewhere.

I bought a S64 65" plasma this year mostly because Panasonic discontinued them, but the W900 is the TV I really wanted.

Thanks for the response. The glasses come with the set so there is no way to leave them except literally leaving them there; which I wouldn't do.

I ended up buying the TV; if for nothing else except a test drive of a GAF approved 3D LEDHDTV... :)

let me know if you're happy with it. The performance in sunlight concerns me a bit as my room does have some light.

I actually bought a used 55 inch st50 and it's good (for 550) so not desperate to get it but brand new intrigues me.

I saw this tonight and it looked really nice. Very deep blacks (for an LCD display.) I'm thinking of getting it as well, but it's not available at Best Buy just yet.

Yeah? :)

I was googling it and it has some good reviews too. I guess I know which TV I'm getting :D

Good. Decision made.

Please help me TV GAF!

Is this Sony TV any good?

I don't want to go over that price but also don't want a piece of crap. :p

Dunno if you already bought it, but I searched a bit around.

Sony's naming looks like an absolute mess, with different product names for different regions and suddenly changing panel types for a new series, it seems very good though.

Apparently the w829b(UK) = w800b(US) = w790b(Canada) and there are a lot more reviews of that UK version.

With reviews like that it probably is a very good choice.

My search for that TV also made me come across the worst designed webshop I have seen in quite a while, with animation!:

You might just want to get a receiver. HDMI switchers are pretty expensive I think and I don't have any experience with them.

The thing is, every display is different, you probably won't get good results from copying them from other people. You can try it, see if you enjoy them, but when I did so with my ST60 the default settings were actually better for me.

Just make sure to set it to Warm (2), like it should be done with pretty much any TV set. Might take some adjustment if you are used to setting your displays to cold, but it is closer to the standard.

EDIT: Another thing, plasma TVs look a bit different especially after the first one hundred hours, so you might want some time before you adjust it.

Well I could not wait for the 2014 models
So Bye bye Pioneer 5020fd, allo Sony KDL55W900A got it for 1399$ CAD could not resist.

Just got a 46w905 this weekend, we have 2 TV's next to each other so the Lg 47LM740V or whatever it was called next to the new sony.

There is no contest, I was astonished at the blacks and contrast on the sony 905...Looks like my old Pany 42PZ70B 42 inch plasma in blacks but has that LED brightness.

Side by side playing on Ps4 the sony puts the LG to shame, and the lG was a good model and only a year or so old...

As a Game monitor it 'feels' great in COD. Worth the extra. Was so close to the 50 inch 829B ...I was not sure that going so big when I sit 8 ft away is so appealing....46 - 47 inch is big enough for me.

Just picked up a floor model w900a from best buy for $1100. I'd been stalking it for two days and couldn't find a damn single flaw other than it was missing the 3d glasses.

Been tinkering with the recommended settings from cnet and om absolutely in love with this thing.

Plus, since the tv was $1100, I only paid $125 for an extended warranty.

My god I am a happy fellow right now.

Was looking at getting a sony 65" W850A to replace my 8000 series 55" samsung. Anyone here have impressions on this set? Also looking at samsungs high end plasmas but it runs about 3000$ for the 65". It will be used Mostly for movies and gaming. I could care less how it performs for broadcast tv.

The 850 is basically a 900 with a 120hz panel (480 motionflow) instead of a 240hz (960 motionflow), and slightly worse blacks IIRC.

You beat me by 100ish bucks on the TV which means you beat my on the warranty too... But I really don't care lol. The set is really nice!

So I have my PC desk in the same room as my TV. Computer has speakers plugged in via the normal 1/8" jack in the back and plugged into the monitor via the DVI port on the graphics card. I also have my TV plugged into the same graphics card (I say same because I have two GTX760s) via the HDMI port. And since I plugged everything in today I've had nothing but problems. Using Windows 8.1 BTW.

I want to pretty much always have this set up as extended screen so I can watch netflix and such on the TV while working on my PC/Monitor. On occasion I want it to just be the TV that's on for when I want to play video games on my couch. Here are my problems.

1. Sound always outputs to the PC speakers and not the TV. I want to be able to switch from PC to TV speakers on the fly even when I'm using the desktop on my monitor. It's just weird watching netflix on a TV across the room and having the not so great quality PC speakers right in front of me blast the sound. Is this possible?

2. I started out using the PC connected to the TV exclusively. I only just got a monitor a couple days ago. If I start the computer with the TV turned off but the screen project setting set to extend it always defaults the desktop to the TV instead of the monitor. I want it the other way around. I can't for the life of me figure out how to make the monitor the de facto main monitor. I can make the monitor the main desktop screen by enabling "second screen only" or by changing it in my screen resolution settings to "make this my main screen" but it just reverts back any time a monitor goes to sleep or I change anything.

2.A When the screen goes to sleep when I'm in this configuration I need to restart my computer to get the screens to wake. Neither the TV or the monitor will wake up when I go to do so.

Lastly, I wonder since I'm using two displays does it tax my graphics cards more than usual? Even if I'm not doing anything on the second display or if it's turned off?

I've heard this mentioned a few times but no specifics. What are the differences?

An IPS panel, which has worse PQ than their mid-range models from last year, let alone the top dog model.

Passive 3d versus active shutter.

Worse backlighting than the previous years.

Basically a sizable stepback in picture quality. The gaming lag is still top-notch and you do get the native Plastation Now integration eventually so there's that.

W900A seems like the best 1080p LCD you can get at the moment.

1, on Win7 I can right-click on the volume icon in the lower right corner of taskbar and it brings up playback devices where you can chose default audio device.

2, right clicking background and selecting screen resolution gives menu where you can chose default monitor.

Not sure if Win8 menus are the same tho

I bought one of those run of the mill Samsung LED-LCD smart TVs and while the PQ was outstanding, it suffered from horrible vertical banding, to the point where I returned it for a Sony Bravia.

Sure it doesn't the set itself doesn't look as fancy but the PQ is incredible and it has zero uniformity issues.

The Win8 menus are the same, but I don't think either answer will help him as I get the impression he knows both of those.

Is this really that good of a deal? Display tv doesn't give you concerns considering it's been on all day everyday? For 1500 you can get the tv brand new, shipped, tax free....

Is it me or is the canadian equivalent of the Sony W800B, the w790B, worst and also overpriced compared to the american W800B?

I think the w790b is gimped(not a 120 hz screen) Though I'm not a hundred percent sure.

The w790B has Motionflow™ XR 240
The w800B has Motionflow™ XR 480

Can anybody confirm this?

Picked up a P50GT60 near the end of last year but have barely used it since I've been away from home so much since then. I ran it in with slides for the first 300 hours bu haven't done much with it since then. The only thing it's been used for is to put some time into Dark Souls II since it launched. I was running around a misty/foggy area in the game yesterday and noticed that the title logo saying "Dark Souls II" is burnt into my screen along with some HUD elements. Have I fucked up? Running the Disney pixel flipper now in the hope I can fix it. Any tips for how I should treat my TV better? Should I run some other content after each gaming session to prevent this in future?

Have you pixel orbiter enabled? I noticed on my 2012 Panasonic UT50 that the pixel orbiter actually works and is even almost essential. I used my tv as a 100% gaming display straight from day one, with pixel orbiter enabled, and had never a hint of retention for the first year. Never. Last month, I decided it was time to get rid of pixel orbiter (and overscan with it), because of aged phosphors, etc. and after only a couple of sessions of Donkey Kong Country TP, well I got a clear, persistent hud retention which took me a good 12 hours of scrolling bar to get rid of. Turned orbiter back on again, never got retention anymore since.

So, for my personal experience, I would reccomend to every plasma gamer to keep orbiter on, even if this means having to deal with overscan (to have the screen filled at every time).
