Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

Those were also my main issues with plasma.
And I don't know which Sony you mean, but the 55W905 has an excellent (active) 3D mode.

I bought a Panny VT60 late last year when they announced they wouldn't sell them anymore, even though my basement wasn't developed yet.

Well, last night we finally finished and got the TV out of the box. I was saddened to see the TV wasn't facing the right way in the box (front was facing the wrong way) and the instruction manuals had already been opened.

I hope I didn't get someone's returned lemon. Wiring being done today so I'll know pretty quickly.

You did not test the tv until now??? The fuck.

Does the set work, at least?

eh.
i can't decide whether the superior PQ is worth the weight, hassle, power consumption, image retention (that everyone keeps saying hasn't been an issue for the last 10 years, except i keep seeing people pop up and claim they have some logo stuck in the middle of their screen :P ok, so maybe it's not permanent and can be erased but still).

Now that sony in particular seems to have a not so great 3D mode (limited resolution and color depth in 3D), which bothers me quite a lot..

I don't care about 3D enough to give a damn, but I'm with you on the other points. I'm this close to clicking the buy button on the 55" W905A. I've always wanted a plasma, but I'm actually not half the videophile I like to tell myself I am, and with OLED hopefully only a few years away from hitting mainstreet ... Yeah.

That triluminos IQ!

What set is that

You likey? I'm thinking of getting a 40" W series for bedroom. How are the blacks, shadow detail ?

like I said a little earlier, I find the picture quality better then my OLD ( 5 years) Pioneer Kuro 5020FD. But the 2014 W series is shit compared to the 2013 model, if you want quality you will have to go 4k this round.

Really? Ugh.. I did not know that. So a comparable 2014 Sony LCD this year has to be 4k?

Does buying and using the Diney WOW bluray really help you get a much better picture?

I calibrated by Vizio M47 to pretty decent picture, but there's always the question in my head "can I get to look better?" Its $18, so I'm not sure if its worth the price?

Also:
For some reason whenever I watch sports like soccer, and when the camera moves fast horizontally - I can see washed out vertical lines. Its hard to describe, but hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about.

It looks like white washed out lines in the background. I don't get this when I watch movies or anything else that's close-up. Only really notice it when I watch sports like soccer where the field is green and the camera moves fast horizontally.

What causes this and is there a way to fix this or is this normal?

Went to Best Buy the other day and saw the new 4k OLEDs and I refuse to buy anything else. They blow everything out of the water. Once they hit around a 5k price point I will be all over it.

What model was that ? I thought only LG has 4K OLED annouced for this year but it's still not released.

The w905 has active 3D which is full 1080p

I'm in the market for a new TV and having trouble deciding what is best for my price range! I'm looking to spend between 700-1000 and looking at a 46+ inch range. I don't care about 3d, smart features are not really a worry either. I'm using it for a moderate amount of gaming and watching cable, Netflix, and such. It will sit in a fairly bright room. Any suggestions?

This looks pretty good. it has 3D but the price is really good.

Just wanted to say that I got a Pioneer Kuro 55'' a year ago today for $600 and do not regret it one bit. The only drawback is the large amount of power it sucks. Other than that, it is truly a fantastic TV for movies.

Panasonics website is now taking orders for the new 58" 4k set which features a Display Port 1.2a which would allow 4k gaming at 60fps. I just went to Best Buy and they also show the 58" available for order in addition to the 65". Still no word on when the flag ship AX9000 that is rumored to beat black levels of Plasma's.

I am really tempted to try out the 65" AX8000. I loved last years 4k set and thought out of all the 4k TV's that it looked the best for Movies/Cable and what I was looking for "Gaming". But it suffered horrid vertical banding issues and almost anyone that bought one also saw these vertical bars. But since Panasonic is the only game in town that offers Display Port on their sets, it makes me want to give them one more try and get the AX8000. Just have to convince the Wife! lol

I'd wait and let someone else be the guinea pig. Looking through the manual they posted it's interesting that HDMI4 is listed as 4K. I wonder if that is the only input with HDCP 2.2? Damn thing weighs 90 lbs plus another 40 for the pedestal. Pretty beastly compared to the Samsung 65" 8550 at 54 lbs plus 8 for the stand.

I just sold my 60" elite for 1000 today and im feeling melancholy about it. Best tv still for anything 1080p or lower. But I wanted to go larger. Bought a sharp q+ 80" should be here Wednesday. Id really like to get a 100" but the pricing is still too high.

I tested a bunch of 360 games on the Samsung HU9000 at Paul's TV today. I wish it was my PC... But man it looked amazing. No problems with input lag.

The hu9000 have large measureable input lag fyi. Its in the 90ms range according to reviews. Its also undefeatable in game mode.

I am aware of the reviews which pointed out the large input lag. But I played with Halo 4, Super Street Fighter IV and Tekken Tag 2. I didn't feel anything different then playing it on my C8000 which is from 2010.

Keep in mind this was on movie mode and I didn't use game mode.

anyone knows the IQ differences between the KDL-55W955A and KDL-55W955B?

Or, anyone have a better alternative in this price range, (for gaming and movies.)?

I ordered a 55" HU8550 from Amazon the other day. Coming from a LG LH90, which was a really nice set (full array local dimming), hopefully it compares well in terms of black levels.

A guy over on Avsforum apparently managed to get 60 Hz output on the new Samsung sets by using a DVI-D -> HDMI adapter. I find that really strange as I didn't think DVI-D had the bandwidth to do 4K at 60 Hz, but don't see why he'd be lying either. I will try it, hopefully it works.

I'm looking to replace my bedroom tv with something in the ~40" range, but just can't bring myself to cheap out and have crap blacks. Are there any tvs in that size range that have good picture quality?

Just ordered a 60 inch Vizio M series tv from Amazon! $1298 was an awesome price and I can't wait to get it hanging on my wall! Anyone else gaming on this tv?

They are very difficult to find. Sony doesn't seem to make a quality set at 40". Most of the higher end models are 46" and up. Vizio apparently has a 40" M series or E series that has good blacks for an LCD. Local dimming.

Which is the better tv barring size: Sony Internet TV KDL-50R550A - 50" or Sony KDL-47W802A 47-Inch?

Which is better image quality wise?

The 55" version is pretty fantastic from first hand experience, but you might've done better to wait... You got last years edge lit model. This years model is full array local dimming and is due out any time now.

I finally decide to get the 55" W905A over the 55" VT60, seeing how the later is 500 EUR more around here. Of course I then find the VT60 for roughly the same price. Aaaand I'm in decision hell again.

HELP.

Go Plasma. The VT60 lives up to the hype. Love this thing.

after a few weeks with my st50 55 inch, I'm very happy with it. I can believe the hype now that panny plasmas have a great pic as I'm coming from a sammy led for the past 4+ years. Sammy's pic is still amazing but that tv was also 3k and I got this one used for 500 although even new it's still much cheaper. Warning though - the tv DEF HAS image retention. No question about it so for those that are wondering and people here saying it doesn't exist, I can guarantee it does and I suspect those who say it doesn't can't see it (i'm a hawk for image retention).

Example of this - watching movies, playing games I can't pick it up but if you put a still image of color, certain shades will show it. Yes it will go away but it's a pain and really unbelievable that something like this exists nowadays. While watching tv, depending on what it is, I can also pick it up here and there but nothing major.

For gaming the 905A is usually in a league of its own with the input lag....

Don't know about the VT60

Yup I also have a panny plasma (only 42 inch) - great TV, not bad input lag, but does get image retention which goes away eventually...My 905 rivals it almost for blacks and colour, has better input lag and I can play it all day without concern.

Sacrificing competition-grade input lag is a fair trade-off I think when it comes to Panny Plasma image quality. I can't notice the lag on my 2010 set at least.
