Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
Why people care about wheel support still? It's 30fps, makes using a wheel pointless.

Better? It looks worse than forza. All we've seen is clouds and day cycles. That's a bold claim. Sorry I'll take a good racing game over pretty sunsets.
I was promised 1080p/60 was going to be the norm this gen![]()
People that think arcade racers don't need 60fps are probably children that never actually played an arcade racer.
Maruyama noted [All-Star Battle] is not a fighting game, it's a JoJo game. One of te results for this is that the team is going for 30 frames per second. The CC2 team felt that they could either put all the power to make a fighting game by going with 60 frames per second, or they could put all the power to making a game with Jojo's expression and go with 30 frames per second. They decided on the latter, as 30 frames per second allows for the greater visual expression one wants from a Jojo game.
"Technically we are running at 720p and 60 FPS. 60 FPS is another pillar of the project. Anything added to [Killer Instinct] that doesn't allow us to run at 60 is removed or optimized. Nothing would more frustrating than need perfect pixel accuracy at anything below 60. It would feel sluggish and unresponsive."
Just give me a compelling experience for a solo player who doesn't want to be a part of a club, and I'll be good.
http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/04/30/driveclub-update-evolution-studios-2/DRIVECLUB is at its best when youre connected, as youll always have fresh and exciting new challenges around every corner. Its up to you how you play, when you play and who you play with. You can play solo if you want: online or offline. Theres a full single-player campaign for you along with the ability to set up your own events, which will all help you earn access to new cars and rewards. Everything is better when youre online though, connected to friends and playing in a club, sharing every moment and competing in engaging challenges.
Not really... he is right.
I never cared about 30fps and 60fps until people on gaf told me to.
I'm shocked that people are boasting about Forza 5's 60fps.
Just one look at the game and you can clearly see how many compromises they made to reach that. It is not a good looking next-gen game
This is a matter or priorities of course. And for a racer, I feel the priority really should have been on framerate and fluidity. I understand they want to wow us with a lot of pixels and next-gen and stuff, but still.. :/
I wouldn't say rock solid. For a racer game that would be more like a snail shell solid. This thread is all hell compared to the quiet thread about the reasons for the delay.
Rock solid 30 fps is fine.
We don't want 60 FPS because of "stats on the back of the box," it's more than just a "stat." What we're concerned with is how fluid the game feels and how much input latency there is. And it's completely undeniable that 60 FPS is better than 30 FPS in both those regards.
I'm not saying that it's not possible for Driveclub to be a great game at 30 FPS, I'm sure it will be. But don't trivialize 60 FPS as just some "stat" and not a very important determining factor for feel and responsiveness.
Honestly Horizon and the PGR games weren't very good, the sense of speed was lacking, they felt sluggish. That's what 30fps does for you. I am happy they just came out and said it though - couple of days of storm ahead and then those people who aren't going to buy it, myself included, won't even need to look at Driveclub threads anymore.
I think FFXIV is consuming my life at this point anyway.
what does fluid gameplay even mean?

They're not broken because of 30fps, but they miss a lot because of it. I loved every one of those you listed (outside of NFS), but I would still gladly trade top-end visuals and have more workarounds and cheats to manage things if I could have 60fps. At least, with last gen games, they had some excuse in aging hardware. Still, regardless of hardware, racing developers who care, prioritize for 60fps first and leave the art team to find a way to make it look good with the rest of the resources available. Ninty does it, Polyphony Digital does it, Turn 10 does it, Sega used to do it.
PGR1 is 60fps and the halving it did to get to PGR2 really hurt even if it was still loads of fun.seeing as my favorite car series PGR was always at 30 FPS, I'm more than ok with this. Game looks fantastic.

Tanaki_Khan is right. We tested this because on paper it sounds really cool, but when you actually play at the real time of day for a while you lose a lot of the magic and diversity.
We allow you to customise the start time and the time compression (time lapse) in every race you set up, so you have lots of flexibility yourself.
http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/04/30/driveclub-update-evolution-studios-2/The most important thing for a racing game is a locked frame-rate whether its 30fps or 60fps. Its vital that every controller input you make is consistent and also equal for all drivers. We chose a locked frame-rate for this very reason and with 30fps we dont have to hold back any of the obsessive visual detail in our game.

Good, now I won't have to buy a PS4. Maybe when the PS5 rolls around Sony will finally be able to create a racing game that isn't twice as choppy as F-Zero X on the N64.

I'm imagining playing F-Zero GX at 30 FPS and ewwww...You 60fps peeps need to relax good lord. If some of the best racers ever weren't 30fps I would share your public outcry but it's just not the case.
Fuck that, 60 fps is so much more important than flashy graphics for a racer.
I tried playing a few of the 30FPS racers on PS3 and they were downright unplayable. How people consider Sonic and All-Star Racing transformed a good game on anything other than PC I will never know.

I mean FFS, they were targeting 60 FPS before the *original* launch. But like I said, let's wait for confirmation.
its obvious looking at a 30 fps trailer on youtube? Like the other guy said, are you a wizard?!
I completely agree. I think it's just harder for some to adjust when playing racing games at different framerates.apologies. PGR2 and 4 > PGR1 by a mile, and half the framerate. OH NOES!
While I would agree that 60 fps is superior and preferable to 30fps, I really wouldn't shun a racer for being 60fps.Man, a lot of people in here must have really hated or never played the PGR series, Forza Horizon, NFS, Motorstorm, etc.
What is so surprising here?30fps, wut
