Sunset Overdrive website - say hello to Fizzie! (Insomniac/MS/XB1)

Fair point(s), gentlemen. seems there are indeed more less-serious games games on MS's platforms that fit-in more with Sunset Overdrive. Maybe it won't seem so out of place afterall. Although those games didn't immediately come to mind when I thought of 'Xbox', whereas for whatever reason (be it the legacy 'mascots' or indy focus of the past year or two) those style of games do come to mind when I think of 'PS'. Looking a little easier for Sunset Overdrive in my mind now.

But yeah, if that's what port begging is, then I guess I'm unknowingly guilty of it. Sorry :).

If it's any consolation you could probably still buy a can of Overcharged when they come out!

Out of curiosity, did you own a 360?

You're just gonna keep digging that hole, huh?

Probably, I'm not very good at explaing what I mean sometimes. But people here have made some good examples of simillar games which pretty much disprove whatever it was I was trying to say in a very badly worded way.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. People can create whatever narrative they want. If you want to believe that's not Xbox then fine. When I think PS I think games like Beyond Two Souls, Killzone, The Last of Us etc which are all serious games (TLoU deals with more mature themes then any MS game). But don't then share that narrative and be surprised when people question it.

I can't wait for more info on Thursday. This'll probably be the game that forces my hand into buying an Xbox One, especially if the ntkrnl rumor about the game being bundled with a white console is true. Everything about the game just looks so appealing to me.

MS is pushing me more and more towards an X1 with their output or at least cradling of cartoony games like Plant v. Zombies and Sunset Overdrive....nothing will ever push me over completely though after the DRM BS and then starting the gen with microtransactions on $60 games

It's pretty weird how similar that mascot is to Sackboy. But I'm looking forward to finding out more about this game. Like, what it even is at all.

Stylistically this looks a lot better than what insomniac ever made for Sony.

It's Insomniac's IP now so they can pour extra love into it and do it how they want. Not to say they don't pour out the quality on IP they don't fully own.

It looks like a friendly face on the monster that is made when people drink the product. Lipstick on a pig. "See our product is harmless. Look at this cute guy."

Who said its the next killer app? Can you point me to that?

Imo it could be fun. For now its just funny marketing and a promising concept.
Well I haven't bookmarked every time I've read someone posting that this game is or could be the reason they're buying an XBox One. For your sake, I just CTRL-F'ed the What could Microsoft show to get you to buy an XB1 thread and got these results:

Microsoft has to realize that not everyone likes shooters as much as they used to. Sunset overdrive is a nice start.
If they want me to buy it now, they might have to drop the price to £50. Sunset Overdrive is starting to sound exciting to me though.
The 'must-have' E3 title might be Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, D4 or something completely new but compelling exclusives are what will make me buy one.
Me too. I want one good excuse to buy an Xbox One and Titanfall SP would have been it.

Sunset Overdrive could be it.
Sunset Overdrive could be it.
I already find Killer Instinct and Sunset Overdrive more interesting than anything on the PS4 in terms of software.
Again, I'm not saying that the game doesn't have the potential to be amazing. I'm just surprised that people are showing this level of hype or interest given all we've seen is a cinematic trailer and a few shavings of potential gameplay tidbits.

It's totally cool to get excited by a trailer. I just thought there'd be more info out there.

Lol you proved my point though. It could be interesting. The concept sounds good. But none of those people were like "this is the next killer app". It just has potential.

But that's kind of what I'm saying. It's a little preposterous to say "this has the potential to be the next killer app" with what we've been given (a trailer that doesn't shown gameplay and a few details about the genre), unless you're basing that on the metrics of 'Well, anything could happen!' We've seen a trailer and know next to nothing about the game.

The fucking sequel to Zumba World Fitness Party has the potential to be the next killer app for the system, but there's a reason why no one's listing it.

I just find it curious that people would list this as a potential killer app given the fact that the recent track record for the developers has been... not good, plus we've seen or know next to nothing about the game.

I'll reiterate that I'm stoked that Insomniac is trying to pull off something unique and I hope they succeed based on that alone.

I tend to agree with this. I've seen people in this thread suggesting it could have an impact similar to Gears of War, which is quite a reach in my opinion. I'm excited by the game's potential but I haven't seen anything yet to suggest that it has massive - or even large - sales potential.

And after a couple of mediocre outings from Insomniac, I'm cautiously optimistic. I personally think it'll turn out to be a fun/unique game that scores approx. 80-85 on Metacritic and reaches approx. 2 million in lifetimes sales.

I'm curious over the title, but it just doesn't seem fit with MS's other lineup. Not since the days of like Viva Pinjata and Kameo at least. The off beat/whacky stuff is usually Sony's territory with Unfinished Swan, Puppetter, Rain, Rachet & Clank etc. I'm certainly not gonna pickup an X1 for it, but I would totally have given S.O. a fair shot if it had have been available on PS3/4.
lol
this guy...

totally understandable, but going with ntkrnl leaks, Microsoft believes in this title, exp if it may get a console bundle. now we don't know how real ntkrnal is , but I bet hes dead on. If MS is excited for it, no reason why we shouldn't be.

No Zumba Fitness conceptually does not have the potential to be the next killer app. That's the difference.

And I don't think people are saying that it has the potential to be the next Halo just that it has the potential to be successful.

Also we've seen more than just the CGI trailer they've dropped hints and details along the way.

I was under the impression that the people developing this made Resistance 3. Not the same team as Fuse or at least not the same heads. I'm also not of the opinion that a single bad game means that everything after that will be garbage.

Microsoft is going all in here. It's not going to be a bad game. Microsofts track record is pretty good in that regard. Other than Ryse, they generally don't hype up mediocre games. And they definitely don't start making drinks for the game and giving it a different colored console.

Most of the characters look genetic as fuck. Based on the website, I know. I don't see stock boy in the mascot. Not even a little bit.

mike works has been on gaf for awhile, scratch that probably from the start. I think I've been had. I thought Resistance 3 was looked upon favorably at-least with some mods.

Ha, I've been on GAF for a long time but I'm not pulling a joke or anything when it comes to my opinion here.

As for Resistance 3, I never played it. I'm mainly going off the track record of Insomniac's games in general; Fuse, the recent R&C's, and the Resistance games.

See, I can understand the hype behind something like Destiny, even all that had been shown of it was a trailer and the promise of a genre, because Bungie has earned that right. Same with Naughty Dog, and a few other choice developers.

No offense to Insomniac, but I don't think they've yet to reach that level. Not saying they can't, and I'm sure as hell have more potential interest in Sunset Overdrive than Resistance or Fuse.

For Insomniac's sake I hope this breaks the downward spiral they have been on for the last 5 years. I like the style, I just can't help but be realistic.

It's like a team of PR interns are unknowingly talking to each other in this thread. People are losing their minds about a generic chibi mascotte and some pretty awful humour...

Shall we first wait until we've seen some gameplay?

The game looks funny as hell, "the funniest game of 2014" award is a lock.

From what I've read in this thread some people were having fun with the mascot and website parody humor, no one was 'losing their minds'. I don't quite understand why people can't be optimistic (or dare I say excited) about a concept and teaser information without the fun police coming in the ruining the day. Maybe the people on the negative side should also take your advice and wait for gameplay.

Who is losing their minds?

I'm tired of these posts filled to the brim with hyperbole. Either point out examples or stop.
