New PS4 and PS3 Models Revealed by Certification Request Filed by Sony

Regarding PS4

This will of course not be a completly rebuilt model but only small internal alterations.

Each PS3 version also had 4-5 of these revisions.

well...the PS3 is using the Cell engine...and we know Cell went through several versions until it reached...Perfection.

plus his previous form was ugly as hell

So just hope for the best, a smaller, cheaper, good looking PS3

Yeah, I don't see any possibility of price cuts to the PS4. With Sony's financial position being as it is, they will take the margin this holiday and cut to $299 next year if necessary. Right now Sony need to look at their bottom line, if they have a way to increase margins on a popular product then the prudent course would be to reap the gain rather than pass the savings on, at least immediately. The competition is weak enough for Sony to sit at $399 for another 16-18 months.

I still feel like they will keep the price but bundle in games like destiny in September, batman in October and AC in November. Most likely digital codes. I can see 399 bundles with those games doing very well especially batman and ac bcoz they are next gen only

Yep. The Xbox One price cut won't really make a big difference, only a slight bump and only temporary. The PS4 was priced really well at entry and will continue to be priced well versus its competitors in the market since it still provides the most value in box.

Since PS4 is on 28nm process, there can't be any die shrink yet. It's a rather large SOC which needs a solid process so it's not going to happen soon, since even the upcoming AMD Beema and Mullins will still be produced on 28nm. However the production now will switch to Global foundries (it was TSMC)

Really hope this leads to a new ps3 soon, I need to replace mine with a dead disk drive
Watch it not have an optical drive

Maybe they add HDMI 2.0 for 4k TV support at 60 Hz... is HDMI 2.0 even out?

AC WiFi maybe?

Or they add a HDMI In so that you can watch TV on it ! LOL

This is a recipe for disaster, if Sony wants to maintain their lead in the US then they will need to keep making moves to stay ahead.

which you can do with marketing, with a constant stream of high quality games etc. You don't simply cut your price because some people would like to pay less. you only cut when your demand falls (either vs your projections or vs your competition), and a cut is your best estimated way to bring that demand back up.

Anything else is throwing money away, and Sony really needs to not do that.

I would love to see a PS3 that is similar to the size of the PS2 Slim that has the PS2 backwards compatibility put back in. I would buy one for sure.

Would be nice if the new PS3 could stack under the PS4. Maybe even share the same hdmi and power supply connections through a daisy chain.

PlayStation 3

Sony has teamed up with Majesco to create the smallest PlayStation 3 ever* with compact, ergonomic controllers^ to make it easier than ever to game with your friends on to go.

*May not be compatible with most PlayStation 3 software. Hard disk drive not included.
^Wired controller, Sixaxis™ and force-feedback technology not included.

PS4 model should be just an internal revision with optimized design to cut costs and better position them to make discounted bundles later this year. A full PS4 shrink is going to happen when the APU goes to 22/20nm and 8Gbit GDDR5 chips become available, that's also when I expect a 299$ price, in mid-late 2015.
PS3 revision instead might pretty well be a full revision with shrinked chips (Cell and RSX) and a new form factor. PS3 really needs a 150$ entry price considering the current level of sales. A new model with 32GB or 64GB of flash memory and a 150$ price might be the right move to lift sales.

If they can cut the cost of internals, I can see a $399 model with a 1st party game, and a $369 solus model to keep 3rd parties happy, for Christmas.

Isn't the PS4 APU already 28nm?
