David Goyer's opinions on Martian Manhunter/She-Hulk - insults fanbase in the process

Doesn't cover a 10th of what makes MM so awesome. Read his solo series instead. It's only like 15 issues.

What's funny is that MM would be the IDEAL tv show if going back to the silver age plotline.

him being the human detective as usual then when it calls for action he switches to his martian manhunter mode and takes out whoever.

It'd be like Smallville but better

Hey did you guys hear the one about the comic book fan who was also a virgin
I didn't realize watching the Justice League cartoon was such a life hazard

I know it's cliched to constantly rag on about how much better Marvel handle their movies than DC but...

That first quote just sums it up. "Lol only virgins have heard of Martian Manhunter, why would we make a movie about him" vs. "We're making a movie about a talking raccoon. Deal with it".

This is why DC has two successful movie franchises, and Marvel has Spider-man, X-Men (well, not theirs but still), Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Avengers, and to a lesser degree Hulk, Fantastic Four and Ghost Rider. And they're still making news ones like GotG, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange...

Well said.

Hey Goyer

Single Green Female. Read sum.

Have you read the reason behind She Hulk looking the way she does? Gamma radiation brings out your subconcious mind or what dominates it. Samson loved heroes and became a superhero. Jen was mousy and shy so she became the super model type she always envied

And She Hulk in comics is more women empowering than anything.

That is the problem.

The comment of SHe Hulk is misogynist and sexist at its core.

Oh, I'm sure she is women empowering. I haven't personally read any She-Hulk comics but I'm aware that Byrne and other good writers have done quality runs on her. But that doesn't mean that the concept when it was first conceived had such nobility behind it.

I mean, Rob Liefeld created Supreme as an edgy, 90s Superman ripoff. It was crazy terrible. Then Alan Moore came on and completely reinvented the character and its universe and turned it into a masterpiece of sorts. But that doesn't make someone wrong for questioning the initial conception.

MM period. In comics he mains 119 different identities, including one as a supervillian, a female Japanese executive, AND a house cat to a lonely old woman. In the southern hemisphere they know him better than Superman.

I've never heard of this guy, but he comes across like a jerk in those quotes.

Also, he's 20 years out of date with this crap. It warms my heart that formerly nerdy things are now very popular (even if they are still nerdy). Iron Man got me laid, and that wasn't the only Marvel flick. Various video games have gotten me laid.

Well, they helped, anyway. I think it's really cool that I can have a fun conversation with a date about what characters might possibly be in upcoming comic book movies, and she'll be into it and speculate about actors, or things like that.

If this guy is working on said movies, he should fucking get this.

Actually the initial concept of She Hulk was done to beat TV show to her rights as character. One of those first to appear in tv show but Marvel had to beat them to it to maintain her rights.

See? That's awesome. Really awesome. But I guess they don't want to use this. Shame.

And he does have supermans powers and more. :|

Fine just give Martian Manhunter to the Arrow guys since that would probably turn out better than anything Goyer would do with the character.

Except that Hulk and She-Hulk are cousins so she wasn't created to give Hulk someone to fuck, but OK, David.

The Hulk tries to mate with She-Hulk

Scan11501.jpg

Let's now avert our gaze to this in-continuity Hulk story, in which the Hulk experiences radioactive Pon farr and tries to bang his cousin. In 2000's Incredible Hulk annual, the Hulk is feeling particularly horny and requires a mate who can withstand his primal lovemaking. He preens by smashing up Central Park and then selects She-Hulk as his chosen paramour.

She rejects him and the Hulk leaps off to hump some mesas or plateaus or whatever topographical feature he grinds against when his crotch is frustrated. I presume this is why he can't bring himself to attend Avengers reunion cookouts anymore. Which brings us to our next point...

The Hulk successfully mates with She-Hulk
The Hulk finally got his wish in the 2008 alternate dimension story arc Old Man Logan, which featured Bruce Banner as the main villain of a post-apocalyptic California. After going insane and becoming so irradiated he doesn't need to transform into Hulk, Bruce breeds with She-Hulk and pumps out an entire brood of superhuman yokels. Yes, this story has Hulks running around sporting trucker hats. (That's evil backwoods Hulk at the top, by the way. You could hit a home run with a follicle of that back hair.)

People also missed this gem:

Well, he hasn’t been rebooted but he’s a mainstay in the Justice League. He can’t be [frick]ing called the Martian Manhunter because that’s goofy. He can be called Manhunter

Guys, no goofiness allowed. Now if you'll excuse me, I need my billionaire dressed like a bat in spandex and my alien in spandex (both of them are wearing capes and are named "Batman" and "Superman") to fight each other.

I don't really see where he is wrong here to be honest.

She-Hulk is a bit more dynamic in the comics, however, the principal is still roughly the same as he described.

Plus Martain Manhunter is the literal translation of his job title on Mars. In that respect it is better than batman and superman.

Weirdly sexist/fanbase insulting/character shitting comments taken into consideration with his work on Man of Steel et al, you gotta wonder how Wonder Woman is gonna come out on the big screen if he's got a big hand in the story.

According to most people in this thread, and how she is his cousin and it wasn't until the 2000's Hulk even tried to do anything, I don't see how you can say it's anything like he described.

"principle"

And would that be the "knowing obscure (to mainstream Americans) comic characters prevents you from having sex" principle, or the "I dunno what She-Hulk does, so Hulk bones her" principle?

Even if someone is dumb enough to think these things, they should be savvy enough not to spout them in front of people whose money they're counting on

Don't forget your anthropomorphic heavy munitions expert! Oh wait, it's DC....no fun allowed. :(

Good point. They have kind of dragged the Manhunter name through the dirt.

To the general audience who would identify these characters, probably.

He is wrong in the sense of taking those comments verbatim and believing in actuality that is all that character does.

I wouldn't call someone dumb for thinking those things. They are comic books, and for even casual people who are attempted to be interested in them, the thought process is probably something along those lines. The character of She-Hulk on paper is a silly character, along with many others.

Uninformed opinions are dumb
