I haven't been this hyped since the Dark Souls 2 reveal trailer!

You came in here and shat on everyone's parade. People (including me) shouted you down for it. You earned it.

One post I made shat on the entire parade? I even said I'm anticipating it to be a great game.

Look at what you're saying, "People (including me) shouted you down for it. You earned it.", isn't that a tad bit fucked up regarding what this site is for?

From can do both. Get this one out for Sony, where Sony foots the bill and also work on Dark Souls 3. Win Win.

probably debt of gratitude. even in business, people practice it. there was that square enix interview last week saying it was only proper for square to help sony (sony sold their stocks if squenix) the sane way sony helped square 10+ years ago when sony invested in square stocks.

Maybe this is beneficial to both parties. Sony gains a new exclusive, and From benefits from their funding and tools, along with more manpower and expertise to help them develop the game as they see fit. Will sell less than going multiplat, for sure, but there's much less risk involved for them. And then, they can use the tools and techniques they learned to take advantage of current gen hardware on their own, in a multiplat game like Dark Souls III.

I think these things are natural whenever a new gen comes. Developers need help understanding the new systems and working closely with Sony/Nintendo/MS can help them overcome the initial hurdle.

Actually yeah, that makes sense. From repays what Sony did for them, but also gets Dark Souls 3 out for everyone else. As someone else said, this move will help solidify the Souls community to PlayStation and allow their A team to really shine.

I have a feeling when this is shown on E3 it will explode the Internet.

Dat backstep, so hot. I wonder if backsteps are modified by DEX now too and not just how awesome your rolls are. Makes me sad I'm not in the market for a PS4 so here's hoping for a second Dark Souls from the B-Team.

I can definitely understand the correlation between this and Bayonetta 2, however wouldn't From have enough money to go about their own way? I know Souls wouldn't be where it is today without Sony's initial help, however it just seems...strange I guess. I dunno, I'd like to wait and hear more on it all, but as I've said I can't wait to just have a next-gen Souls, be it on PS4 or elsewhere.

I'm still so up in arms though of whether to keep my PS4 or sell it and get another later down the track when we get those tasty games. Guess I'll keep it until E3 as we never know, things might announced in-between now and September.

From has money, but remember they already have a Dark Souls series ongoing. They didn't need to create yet another project that would have been seen as pretty similar, crowding their own market. This was Sony's desire, because they smartly understand the value Demon/Dark Souls had among the hardcore gaming community, and they seem to understand (at least, most of the time *cough* The Order *cough*) that the word of mouth from hardcore gamers is the first thing that tends to filter out to the general public.

We'll see if Sony made a smart gamble later, but I'm just so glad this exists. It's a dream for me right now. A dream come true.

Also: Just keep it imo. People are always so quick to get rid of their systems when they realize it's no different from every other console to release and it usually goes through a period of down time when the big games take to release (although i've been plenty fine with indies and make no distinction between them and AAA personally, I know that's not the case for everyone). Every time I buy a system near its launch, I'm cognizant of the fact gaming on the platform is going to be pretty mediocre at best for at least a year, year and a half. Things are actually better than they used to be in a way thanks to all the indie games coming out and filling in gaps, but they're still overall unimpressive.

So enlighten my ignorant ass - this is pretty much "Dark Souls 3" from the same studio/developers but exclusively for the PS4? Looks pretty sweet though I dunno if I would jizz myself over it :P

No.

The team that made Dark Souls II was not the same team that made Dark Souls.

The team that made Dark Souls and Demons Souls were absent from Dark Souls II. We didn't know why the director of Dark Souls/Demon Souls wasn't directing Dark Souls II, but when we got the credit list of the team who made Dark Souls II we saw major changes in who was doing what, leading us to believe their was a separate project in the works.

This is that separate project that the Dark Souls/Demons Souls team was working on, it has nothing to do with the Dark Souls IP, and probably has more to do with Demons Souls, and even that is in question.

If I recall correctly, Demon's Souls was built using a customized version of Sony's PhyreEngine. I think it was Sony's resources and technology that helped get From Software firmly established on ps3/360 after their initial effort with Armored Core 4.

I'd imagine Japan Studio is filling a similar role this gen. Such assistance is especially crucial for a smaller develop like From Software, which has historically been short on funding and is probably also constrained by technology and other staff-related limitations.

Notice how Dark Souls II wasn't cross gen and the PC port was late? Resources.

Of course, Sony isn't likely to prematurely reject any sequels this time around, as the success of the games has been clearly established.

I have a feeling I will just end up keeping it, I got a pretty good deal for it when I originally bought it and kind of doubt I can get that again. I was more just looking to whether I can offload it for the short term and inject the money gained into something else and pick it up again when there are exclusives that really tickle my fancy.
