Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

Why? Because all the sudden Sony has to have a solely GAMES-GAMES-GAMES conference? Sony have always talked about stuff whether it was good or not. The only change they should have done, was put all of it at the start of the conference and then had the games roll out.

I don't really care if Sony has 'always done that', it just means that it's always been the most boring part of the show.

Yoshichan will now get killed by clickers:p

The thing is Microsoft pretty much laid all their cards out on the table with cg trailers of games coming in 2016 or later. Sony is keeping stuff close to chest so they will have many more surprises coming up. I can already see at this conference Sony has gained alot of power with 3rd parties as well due to the sales of PS4.

If anyone saw the conference at a movie theater and has an extra code it'd be much appreciated. :D Just found out I've got time off next week and no beta to play!!

Sony is really in a strong strong position. They have some great new IP coming, plus the timed exclusives are some of the best indie games but the real big quiver in their bow is just the graphic superiority. Your going to see them continue to outpace X1 to a large degree and especially when the most exciting looking games right now are mostly 3rd party that is a huge deal.

Batman will look best on PS4
Far Cry will look best on PS4
Assassins Creed will look best on PS4
Witcher will look best on PS4

On and on and on and on.

As the gen continues that will only continue. It's why MS really really need a exclusive IP that blew our socks off because they start at a disadvantage.

^ Agree 100%

That's right, except Uncharted that will be probably holidays title.
Two new announced games (Ratchet and Bloodborne) are expected for the first half of 2015.

Yea but saying it should have been cut is hilarious. Sony never came into E3 stating their show would be a carbon copy of MS. The talking was more or less expected and people are moaning and groaning about it. Im sure there would be less hate for the guy if he went and talked the first 30mins, then let the games finish out the conference.

You and others may have thought it was boring, but others out there might have been intrigued by the Vita TV or PSNOW.

So, more or less the same situation as last year. MS may not be able to keep it up, but both approaches have pros and cons.

Obviously, I was watching it on a shitty stream, but when the lights went crazy and the sound screwed up during the Batman demo, was it a deliberate part of Scarecrow's entrance? Because if it wasn't it was great, and if it was it was great.

Yep, it's exactly what you expect from a Sony E3 conference - rough with the smooth, but with some personality. With MS, I felt that Phil Spencer came into the room just to press play on the VCR for us kids, then left to get drunk with the grown-ups in the kitchen.

It was planned yeah. I thought they were having another AC4 moment.

Yeah, MS seems to like to show stuff 2+ years out at their conferences. I'd love to see everything Sony has planned too, but they like to have bigger surprises at shows. I'm surprised that there isn't a thread on Far Cry 4 having free co-op play with your friends that don't have the game. THAT IS HUGE!!

Sure. I'd agree completely with those statements, but it doesn't really summarize the differences, which did exist.

1. Sony had more indies. A lot more. And from pretty noteworthy studios who have delivered high end games before.
2. Sony didn't even dig into the majority of their worldwide studios or probably even their late 2015 lineup (except maybe Uncharted 4). Microsoft was digging into their 2016 catalog to match exclusive content shown. That's a pretty telling factoid and, to me at least, the real differentiation here. MS doesn't have enough 1st party/exclusive software and are showing us long term projects super early to make us think they do.

Whats really sad is to see that MS may not have anything to show anymore besides what they've shown now. What do they really have for the future besides the rinse and repeat of the big 3 (Forza, Gears, and Halo)?

Dont say Sunset, its not even established yet.

Kinda odd feeling of emptiness of games from them from 2015 on given how long it takes for games to bet made. they would have to be simultaneously working on direct sequels as the first games releases.

Anyone have a download link for the GameTrailers/Spike stream of Sony's conference?
I watched it last night but would like to download it and watch it again, they got a nice quality stream.

This has me interested as hell, never been into far cry but this trailer gives them another customer. More games should explore things like this and take risk, wonder if H-Hour is gonna be there?

this may have already been discussed but is anyone else kind of bummed there was no ps4 firmware stuff?

The lack of the promised "suspend and resume" feature is becoming embarrassing. This was maybe the biggest new feature in Sony's PS4 reveal. More than seven months after launch it's still missing.

I went to bed one hour before the Sony conference and had to get up only 2.5 hours after it ended, so I had to miss it. Anywhere I can download it yet? Preferably HQ.

I think the conference was great and many seem to agree. Sony relied on their strength of pushing for unique and different games then just about any other publisher will touch. Exclusive or not Sony continues to show their dedication to push really interesting experiences out into The spotlight. Stuff like Abzu, no man's sky, LittleBigPlanet, entwined, Magika 2, mixed with great larger games like Batman,Uncharted, and Far Cry. They push diversity more then most others. The services stuff was also fine with me (though not as exciting as the games) OS level YouTube support is fantastic, and Sony's TV media division has a solid track record lately has been pretty great. I could do without the numbers but whatever.

The whole one Sony thing is going to force Sony to include stuff like this and investors are sure to want to know what Sony plans to do against MS halo tv show.

It was a great with far more positive then negative, and we still have yet to see the bulk of their first party offering.

Daring and diversity were nowhere to be found in either conference, except for a couple indie-ish games (and both consoles have a few exclusives when it comes to indies: inside, witness, rime, Ori and the blind forest, cuphead etc.).

Both solid conferences (didn't see Sony's live, though, it was 3.00 AM here so i wouldn't know about the pacing) with lots of good looking games..
No megaton, but a few nice surprises especially from MS, i'd say.

I have no idea what Edge is talking about.

Trying to watch this last night was an exercise in frustration us the E3 app on the PS4. I'll have to watch the conference again because I missed so much.

My biggest disappointment was the lack of gameplay demos. Too many pre-rendered trailers. They seemed to have a lot of content, but not a lot of substance behind said content. Also the PlayStation hardware and PSN talk in the middle killed the flow of the conference. Some of it just sounded like filler to pad out the conference. Same goes for the TV/movies Powers part.....meh.

No Mans Sky and Batman were the highlights of the show for me. Also loved the Destiny, F2P, and indie portions. Wish they announced a release date for Planetside 2. I'm also looking forward to uncharted, but I don't believe it will look as good as many here believe.

The big takeaway to me, was how little they had to show from their other studios to remain competitive at this show with MS. No media molecule, no guerrilla, no sony santa monica, no sony bend, no insomniac ratchet, no polyphony, no quantic dream, no japan studios. ... Sony looks to have more opportunities to show new games than MS in the future. As this industry marches forward, its going to become more expensive for MS to attempt to pull moves like SSO and TF. I think MS's best days are 2014 and 2015, maybe 2016 when Gears and Crackdown have a chance of landing, but by then I think the Sony machine is going full steam and a lot of those timed exclusives have found their way across the stream.

I dislike it when members reproduce lengthy quotations without adding substantive comment (as I am guilty of doing here) but there are so many good points in this post that bear repeating.

The most underrated megaton of the show for me is Playroom DLC for broadcast!
Sony acknowledge pornPlayRoom as a broadcasting app is huge!

The funny thing is that they made the youtube announcement and someone in my theater yelled out "what about redtube?" and then they immediately followed up with Playroom DLC and someone yelled "There it is" to people's laughter.

If they would have killed the TV segment then their conference would have been just fine, imo. A good balance of popular and smaller games with some nice hardware announcements and of course that Uncharted finisher. They definitely had more games that interested me and - while subjective I suppose- the diversity was definitely there and I definitely appreciate that in a sea of yearly sequels and shooters.

Sony just announced a ton of content for ps4 in both games and services and we still have Gamescom and TGS to look forward to. I have little to complain about tbh

Because he was droning on for what seemed like an eternity.

The announcements should have been small and snappy.

A games-games-games conference is the best type of conference.

Why do so many indie games go for old-school style graphics? That's what I was wondering when I was looking at the indie montage.
Because pixels are the rage now. I personally love it. Why bother working way too long on 3rd models and lighting and all this stuff that smaller teams don't necessarily have to focus on when you can do pixels with sweet effects.

Hot Line Miami was better than so much other stuff I played and it still had its own style. Pixels or not.

Kinda funny they realised the camera was so popular, and the source if that popularity was ustream shows.

awesome they are revamping ustream to make it much more broadcast friendly. I just wanted them to remove the music. Looks like they are adding in a bunch of cool shit! Definitely a great little surprise at the show.

I know Sony said they weren't sure if it was possible and they would look into it, but I was really hoping they were gonna announce that we could finally change our PSN IDS. :/

Yup, they did have a nice variety of content.

Sure, it's a totally valid choice. And for a lot of people (I mean the Devs) there's a lot of nostalgia for the games they enjoyed growing up involved. But even if you don't want to go down the 3D route (which is easier than ever) there are still other 2D styles, like Rayman's, Guacamelee etc. It just seems odd, valid-a choice though it is, that so many indie devs make that same choice.

It was a good conference, it had its slow bits and it also had its Hype bits.

I dont know what a lot of you are whining about, they showed tons of games, and way more in game footage than most.

MS did very well too and so did ubisoft

Sony announced more interesting (imo) games (some with actual release dates) and plans/features/content for games but then lost momentum with the TV talk. They started and finished strong. 8/10 but would have been 9/10 if more focused and less droning about TV.

I watched the MS conference out of curiosity and thought it was short on surprises, exclusives and new news. So much Halo but what about non-Halo junkies? The only things that stands out in my mind is Cuphead in the indie reel (which I would like to play) and Sunset Overdrive which looks like it could be fun but I'm not sold on. 7/10

Overall I'm more interested in Sony exclusives/services, but my ratings aren't based solely on game/platform preference. I expect E3 conferences to focus on announcements and actual news.

Microsoft was mostly the Halo and Sunset Overdrive show.

Unless you're a hard core gamers, most people were wondering what crackdown and Phantom Dust were. I know I had to explain it to some of my friends.

Sunset Overdrive was the only thing that truly grabbed my interest 100%. They catered to quite a select audiences. Not as small as Nintendo of course.
