PS Vita TV coming to West as Playstation TV, $99

Wait a second. Wouldn't some consumers confuse this with the other Playstation TV? You know, the actual TV that was sold not too long ago?

I have read that they've been really slow (if at all) adding older games to the Vita TV compatibility list but maybe they'll speed things up with this announcement.

That is marketed as a '3D display' or something. Do they still produce it? :0

I am cautiously optimistic about how well this will do in the West. If nothing else it could do well as a $100 minecraft machine. I think the branding is smart and it's association with streaming and remote play is smart. It becomes a tempting purchase for non PS owners and a no brainer for multi TV ps4 owners. It is impulse buy priced, and has a lot of potential. Should be interesting.

Give me a date already.

Pretty sure that thing got discontinued a while ago.

Also was a total piece of shit. Defect rates on that were pretty insane.

So wait...

At the moment because I'm still new to the rear touchpad I've been tinkering around with using a DS4 in conjunction with a Vita on Remote Play (have to play on a secondary account on my PS4 rather than my main profile which is on the Vita itself). It's great, except for the Vita screen auto-dimming and their not being a way to stop it doing so. Is there any hope of getting this patched in furture Vita firmware fixes?

With this PS TV... I could theoretically achieve PS4 Remote Play with a DS4 controller, without the dimming, and on my own profile?

Ugh, I was thinking about getting one of these to play Tales of Hearts R and now I see it is not compatible -______-

I'm so happy to see this. I hate the Vita so, so much. Now I can shelve the useless little shit and love the games. The 11th Commandment should've been that there has to be a TV version of every portable.

You would be able to link the DS4 directly to the Vita TV.

Any word on whether this will have the normal streaming apps as well (Netflix, Hulu, etc)? Marketing this as a Roku-like streaming device with the added bonus of being able to stream Playstation games and act as a second screen for PS4/Vita seems like a great idea.

It already has Hulu support in Japan.

I'm going to get this, but the list of compatible games pisses me off. I really want to be able to play Ridge Racer, Super Monkey Ball and Army Corps of Hell on my TV.

Ordering this shit as soon as it's available. Being able to play PS4 in bed? Yes please.

I don't understand this comment. You either already have a TV in your room in which case, you can just move your PS4 and play in bed using that. Or you don't and what you need is an actual Vita to play PS4 games in bed with remote play (I highly recommend it).

Isn't not having to physically move your PS4 to play a little before going to bed sort of a self-evident perk of the PS TV? Come on...

I'm so excited to be able to play Freedom Wars and Toukiden Kiwami (fingers crossed on localization and playability) with a fully fledged controlller! Hell, I don't even need my Vita anymore.

So, could it run: Spelunky, Hotline Miami, Terraria and Minecraft? (Vita versions or PS3 via PSNow)?

Far too much confusion, this is why Sony struggle to market things, no clarity on what it's capable of.

There will be a compatibility list, just like there is for the currently supported regions.

The theater I was at last night went apeshit when they announced this. I'm getting it day one for big screen Toukiden and Golden Abyss among others. I'm hooking it up to the same TV my PS4 is on and I might get a second one for my bedroom. Now we just need a date.

I'd buy it in a heart beat. I've been wanting a solid way of recording Vita gameplay. As far as I know, all the games I own support VitaTV. If the VitaTV is a really solid and PS Now is a well done streaming service, I might just sell my PS3 and it's games and move on to a PS4, but that won't be for a long time.

What's great about the VitaTV is that it's now a good contender against the Apple TV, Amazon FireTV and Roku Boxes.

I'd like to play Vita games on the big screen with decent controller but the compatibility list is very lacking. Furthermore, I like the idea of a screen extender for the PS4 but the hit to visual and audio fidelity, coupled with potential lag, mean that it's not particularly well suited to that purpose either. I'd want to hook this thing up to my 1080p monitor and surround sound system upstairs (PS4 is in the main living room which has a similar setup) and the PSTV would give me a sub-1080p image and 2-channel audio. I know I would not be willing to sacrifice that quality and I'd end up never opting for the PSTV over the native PS4.

I find this fascinating. I have always felt that there was a sleeper market for micro consoles.

My wife doesn't really play video games but she instantly got it. "A $99 media streaming box that can download/play PlayStation games? Let's get it."

So with the release of this do you think SCEA will be interested in licensing the psp and ps1 games again? Crash? Spyro?

I hope they'd consider opening up the archives, similar to the instance last month where almost all PS1/PSP games were made available for download for a brief time

I want one to hook up to my main TV. Being able to play Vita games on the couch would be sweet! However, I am all out of HDMI inputs on my receiver. :'(

As such, it's getting delegated to my bedroom for streaming, replacing my spare Xbox 360.

what media apps do you have in the US? Because in the UK I think there is.....nothing. No iplayer/sky/netflix/amazon instant video....nothing.

I'm really looking forward to this. There are a lot of games on the PlayStation Network for the PlayStation Vita that I own. And playing them on the TV sounds like a lot of fun.

I had to buy an HDMI splitter :\

Warning to those who plan to use one though: the Vita TV does a poll like every 15 minutes when it's in standby. I think this has gotten fixed recently, but before it would cause my splitter to go back to the Vita TV every time it woke up.

I bought a Kinivo. I don't know if I should have bought something else.

I would also like something like this for RCA/Component type stuff.
