Ugh, I just realized the tank on the character's back represents how much ink you have left.
I need to buy new glasses.

So according to the IGN interview:
- will be retail title
- might have singleplayer
- local 1v1 planned (may or may not be splitscreen)
Did they say anything regarding voice chat?
They didn't confirm or deny it they just said that there would be some sort of communication possible.
They highlighted that the fact that everyone sees the map on their gamepad allows everyone to make quick tactical decisions, which is true, but it seemed to indicate, as always that they're not really hot on full voice-chat.
They also talked about possible more classic shooter controls, and some sort of character customization.

Just watching these Nintendo Treehouse vids... fuck man. This looks pretty deep already and they're only using SMGs, none of the class /alt weapons stuff have been unveiled yet and it's a single map.
It's a game where territory control actually means something, where in-game stealth is a viable option without just making you completely invisible, with this beautiful sense of movement and of verticality (i mean you can HIDE in the wall patches I'm pretty sure)... Trying to figure out if you're invisible in other people's ink as well (even with the movement penalties)
Not really getting the people who are saying it looks like an eshop title or something... I think there's huge potential here.
I like the idea behind this, and it looks pretty fun, but at the same time it looks like it could get boring really fast. I mean I got bored at the 5 minutes mark watching a match. It also seems shallow.
People who play it enjoy it and there's always a line for it.
But no one wants to be the journalist to like a "kiddy kid shooter".
I played it, and it's not that amazing, however, I am not Nintendo's target audience.
It's definitely not a shooter game. You spend a lot of time just painting stuff, and killing people didn't really seem to matter as much. In fact, you could strategically use death to respawn behind the other team and win that way.
Controls were terrible OR gimmicky. I'm sure they'll allow more controls, but aiming with tilt as the main method of aiming is SO BAD! You could only move left and right with the right analog, no up and down. Definitely uses tilt.
I destroyed the other team getting like 15 kills in a the second match that we got to play after I got used to the controls. Even then, the final result was almost even, just slightly favouring my team in terms of percentage of painting the level. So I really feel like this isn't too much PVP as it is just passively shooting up floors and walls.
I do enjoy the squid mode of travel and loading up ink from squid mode, but the overall mechanics available feels really shallow that I can definitely imagine myself getting tired of the game real fast. They definitely need more that painting mode.
After playing a bunch of indie games that are like this quirky shooter kind of game, and they were free, I guess my opinion of this new IP isn't in high regards. It needs more content for sure.

furthermore, i noticed the guy next to me was having issues with the controller, and i recall the person at the booth telling him that the motion/tilt control can be turned off, but i don't know if it was available for that demo. maybe someone can confirm tomorrow. nintendo's been pretty good at having a variety of controller options this generation, so i don't see why they would limit that (especially if they have local multiplayer).

Join me for this game, Ponpo. Let's play this and Zelda Musou. I'll convert #gafgundam to #gafWiidom
I'm pretty sure the game isn't solely about killing folks like in Call of Duty or Battlefield. The point seems to be a good mix of both. Controlling and taking over territory with ink seems to be first and foremost in how to win. Killing another player is just a secondary thing that can be a part of the overall strategy. Going in with the mindset of simply killing players is the wrong approach to a game like this.
man, I don't have much hope...
voice chat is a must for strategy in this game IMO...
That is true...for the only game mode currently being demoed: "Turf War". I am sure there will be a deathmatch style mode as well.
Finally Nintendo. Finally.ProJared asked this question and the answer is YES, full voice chat!

Can I be Zelda? If so, deal.
Well as much as I think this game looks cute, I think the single game mode could get boring fast. I should read more E3 impressions.
No, I'm Zelda. Or Impa. You can be boring Link. Why would you want to play this singleplayer, what are you, some kinda friendless plebe?
I swear if Nintendo doesn't do a Shinryaku Ikamusume tie-in with this in Japan, they're dumb.
No I'm Zelda she looks like Orie >=(
And I said single mode not single player mode! Painting floors could get boring, even with map variety. I'd rather be a friendless plebe with regards to this, though. I have visions of people turning this cutie game into something way too serious and competitive and yelling at me on voice chat (._. )
what if they upped the team amount?
8 vs 8
or 4 vs 4 vs 4 vs 4
I would like this if they could have up to 32 players on a single map would be chaos
maybe add in some ink themed vehicles??, a tps battle field like game vibe
or no vehicles, just up the team count.

True statement, sadly.
Also, it should be noted that Splatoon has also likely been "lost in the shuffle" with so many other games and news items from Nintendo. No excuse, though.

Great, another game where everybody hates playing 2fort.It would be kind of funny if each map was a spoof on a different multiplayer shooter.

capture the flag where you drop the flag immediately if you touch the ground/walls that are the opponent's paint
control point where you need to fill a giant bucket with paint (so you are occupied while the opponent can attack you)
racing game 2v2v2v2 each team has 1 squid racer and 1 guy painting up hte track so their racer can go faster
and that's just off the top of my head
edit: an assassin multiplayer mode like assassin's creed perhaps?
Nintendo's ink-shooter Splatoon: the most fun game at E3 | WiredHey guys, look what I found. Actual media coverage.
http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2014-06/12/splatoon-hands-on
Wired said:Nintendo's new arena shooter may just be the most fun game at this year's E3. Sure, Call of Duty is more technically impressive, and the likes of Ori and the Blind Forest are more artistic, but for pure, uncompromising fun? Well, Splatoon is going to be hard to beat.
Sounds goooood.Wired said:It's all terrific... well, fun. Splatoon is bright and cheery, and even though you can shoot rival team members, or "die" from their ink shots, it's never more than an annoyance -- you'll respawn and be straight into the ink-spraying anarchy. If the wider game expands on the excellent map we played, Nintendo could well have their best new party game since Smash Bros on its hands.
