My team of the tournament based on both rounds so far:

T Howard; S Aurier, R Vlaar, R Marquez, D Blind; L Modric, J Jones; A Robben, A Sanchez, J Campbell; R van Persie

G Ochoa, H Moreno, A Pirlo, M Valbuena, T Cahill, L Suarez, K Benzema

- Ochoa had the standout GK performance but Howard has been class in both games
- Same with Jones; Pirlo, Vidal, Matuidi all played better in one, but I think Jones has been really good in both USA games
- fair few Costa Rica players that would be deserving of places, but the last few games have been real team efforts, with Campbell the standout in their first

Wtf is with the scheduling now. It has been perfect up until this point with one match kicking off every 3 hours. Now there are two on at the same time, twice a day?

BLEH!

It is so that teams will not know the result of the other matches in their group. Come on BARAX. You are British you should know these things.

Ushojax

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
Spain XI vs. Australia: Reina; Juanfran, Ramos, Albiol, Alba; Cazorla, Alonso, Koke, Iniesta; Torres, Villa.

because, fuck it.

lol at Reina starting over De Gea

Del Bosque really loves his washed up players. The sad thing is that aside from Koke and DDG there aren't even any young players to call on for this dead rubber.

YES VILLA

He should score some goals for me. He will deliver.

Isn't De Gea still injured?

It is to prevent teams from knowing the result of their other group games and potential shady business that could arise from that.

I wouldn't have Pirlo near a team of the tournament thus far.

I know it's not his style to sprint about, but when Italy needed him to play with some intensity against Costa Rica, he couldn't be arsed to put the necessary shift in.

He was absolutely fantastic against us I thought, but yeah, his Costa Rica performance puts him below people like Jones or Herrera who have performed in both games. Modric has been the standout midfielder so far for me, with Robben the standout player.

It's to improve chances that the last group matches are competitive. For example, if Brazil were to lose to Cameroon in the first game, then Croatia and Mexico would know that if they simply draw with each other, they both go through, and that could turn out to be a very boring game. With the games being played simultaneously, however, one can't know for sure what the outcome of the other game is until the final whistle.

There is precedence for this: in 1982 Germany and Austria played to a 1-0 result knowing that they both would advance with this result. Apparently, after Germany scored in the first 10 minutes, there really was no other scoring chances, and the teams just passed it around, before booting it back to the other side.

I'll be rooting for my country to win this game, I don't want to play against Brazil on their home turf, don't thrust the refs/fifa.

Curious to see how we play without van Persie.

A lot of my colleagues are hoping we lose so we play Saturday in stead of Sunday :(

It doesn't really prevent shit anyway. If one game gets out of hand (for example, if Portugal get a 2 goal lead or something on Ghana), US/Germany will just putt putt the ball around.

It's weird, though. Germany and Portugal have no reason to play hard during that last game (albeit for different reasons). Could be weird.

Ghana just needs to go away though, they're the US's arch enemy!

Yes, but he would have still played Reina if he wasn't. De Gea only had 10 or so minutes in the games leading up to the world cup while Reina was given a full 90.

I thought De Gea was officialy the second goalie for Spain in this world cup selection? That's how the Dutch media reported he got injured at least.

This is it. I really hope that Mexico continues to play like they have been playing so far. Ochoa has a lot of pressure today.

i'm looking forward to seeing +5 added to every half that the US is winning for the rest of the cup...

US teams fault, the amount of diving, lying on floor and time wasting in last 10 minutes game is added at end. Deserved to be bit in the ass doing that tactic
