Shovel Knight |OT| The 8-bit adventures of Butt Butt Goes to Europe & Australia

So much depth to this game! All the random encounters and things that can happen in towns (just did the hat store stuff).

Joyous!

I like it so far, but the jumping feels a bit off-kilter, there's no acceleration, you move at top speed right away. It's a minor thing since it hasn't affected the precision of my jumps yet, but it's souring an otherwise wonderful first impression a little.

Just realized it's not on the european e-shop :(
Not sure if I should wait or just get it from Steam..Is the 3DS version any good? How is the 3D? I imagine it runs at 60 fps, right?

Boy do I love Metacritic reviews.

I dunno, I've read that kind of logic around here more than once

ok, GUYS
about the europe situation
has this happened before with other games? whats the average duration for this? whats the earliest that has happened? whats the longest? because I will buy that game on steam right now if the answer doesnt please me, and I really wanted it badly on the 3DS.

played my Kickstarter PC version this morning for a bit and was surprised I couldn't download the 3DS version form the eShop (wanted to double dip on it) when I got home just now.

Duration could be a week, a month, or SMTIV.

Wow, didn't expect the
unique boss at the end of the hall of the champions. Cool mechanic but pretty easy.

And the level is a cool implementation of the
pixel my face backer tier
.
Ninja dude is Reize. Baz is Baz. He swings from the ceiling and he has lightning. And he's not that hard either.

The whip has a much larger hitbox than one thinks at first, and it's sort of a guessing game on what he'll do when he's swinging (jump down or jump to the next hook). You can easily get some hits from him if he jumps down or does another swing back, but if he swings to the next hook and your trying to go in for a hit you get hit.

Meanwhile I have double vision from playing too long. Oh well.
I really like how the
Bard in the Village comments on the music.
(early game spoilerish)
A lot of the comments make references to the development of the game. When he mentions another performer, he means Manami Matsumae.

IDK, I'm 2/3s through and find it reasonably challenging.
Then again I'm not very good at mega man.

Gotcha. I used the phase amulet for the whole fight, so I didn't really pay attention to the hitboxes and stuff.

edit: did anyone else do any fan art way back when? These are a few I did:

I have played the Wii U version for a couple of hours now, and I am really enjoying the game. The music is great (as was to be expected). I actually find the gameplay more appealing than I originally thought that I would, as well. Hunting for secrets in the level is pretty fun, and I find that the platforming provides a decent challenge.

I am still very early in the game, so I can't speak much to how difficult the game will get, but hopefully it will continue to provide a challenge throughout.

I have found myself enjoying the dialogue and even laughing out loud at a couple of points. I would definitely recommend this one to anyone who wants that old school platformer or is interested in a game with a lot of secret areas to find. Hey, it even has "feats" for those that like to try and complete every achievement a game has to offer. Oh, and there is a New Game + for those that care about that.

Should there not be more of an incentive for a multi region release rather than just domestic if a portion of the funding is from elsewhere? I'm guessing that some of the other games I've backed will have similar issues..

What kind of difficulty were people expecting? Like IWBTG level difficulty?

I dunno, I find it pretty tough after the first few levels.

Try playing without buying relics or health upgrades, maybe?

Shovel Knight has gone through a multitude of notorious delays. They wanted it out as early as possible for at least one region.

I was just thinking about a shovel-only run. The zoning would definitely provide an interesting challenge. I've only beaten the first level, but the dance you had to do with the first boss due to only having the shovel was pretty tense IMO.

I am loving this game, it wasn't on my radar until the Treehouse stream. The devs seemed cool and the demo was nice. Now that I am playing it, I loved almost everything so far. Feels so good to develop a strategy to kill those bosses and seeing it work.

Firstly, the game's available on PC worldwide.

As far as the delays, their Kickstarter only launched 15 months ago. They've pretty much produced at light-speed compared to most other Kickstarters. I backed "Broken Age" over a year before this and they still haven't shipped the 2nd half of their game.

Keep in mind YGC only conceived of the game early in 2013.

Having a great time with it on 3DS. Probably going to double dip with the PC version when it goes on sale.

This game is good looking, it's a good looking game, it's a game that looks good.
When was technical proficiency considered a hallmark of a good game?

1. I know it is. I am stating that Yacht Club simply didn't want to wait for the euro/aus 3DS/Wii U approval process before releasing the NA version.

2. Initial date was fall 2013, then became winter, then was solidified as march 31st 2014, then was de-solidified, and then went for two months without a date while people were asking "where is shovel knight" and YCG's only answer was a constant "soon".
