Shovel Knight |OT| The 8-bit adventures of Butt Butt Goes to Europe & Australia

Still can't find the
the propeller dagger (not really a spoiler)
. Sometimes when you miss something it's really hard to change your way of thinking.

edit: NVM! I saw that path before but I thought it was unreachable.

Just beat the game. I REALLY liked that ending. I mean REALLY liked it. It was minimal, clear, precise, and even touching. Even though there wasn't a lot of dialogue, I feel like I got a complete story.

I'd talk more about the gameplay, but it's obviously awesome.

Also, the Dancer girl might be my favorite thing ever. I reactivated that bit many times. I always got a kick out of it!

What sold me on the game is the fact that there's a sound test. In a video game released in 2014! A sound test in a video game released in 2014!

So, I seem to be terrible at fishing. I get a bite on the lure and Shovel Knight is all like

But I can't seem to catch whatever's biting. I don't think I know the button to do this. I'm playing on a Wiimote FWIW. Help?

As soon as that appears over his head you should press the same button you used to drop the fishing line. SK should reel up and pull up whatever is down there.

Just played around 1h on Steam with an DS4, feels great - not only the controls, the whole game makes a really great first impression.

Gonna double-dip if it ever comes to the Vita.

Polar Knight is cool. I wish he'd won the vote to be playable. :(

Man, the fan art contest had some awesome designs. Especially Falcon Knight, that would be one hell of a battle.

You can buy the gloves that allow you to dash through dirt/sand it in the basement in the first village - there are stairs beneath the Mana+ merchant that will lead to the vendor who sells runes.
That's only after you beat The Lost City and miss the Dust Knuckles there though. Either you pick it up in the Lost City, or you pick it up at the village.

I want all the Order of No Quarter to be playable. And the Enchantress. And Shield Knight. And Mr. Hat.

I WANT ALL OF THEM

is shovel knight the first pc game to auto detect a dual shock 4 and switch onscreen button prompts accordingly?

if this becomes a trend, I might need a dualshock 4

There's definitely been some others. Retro City Rampage updated to do this right around the controller's release I believe.

I know most of those, but who's the dog in the leftmost tunnel, the kid right at the back of the next tunnel along and the mole in front of Link?
The mole is a species of animals from The Minish Cap, the kid is Villager from Animal Crossing and I'm not sure who the dog is.

I kept fucking up on Propeller Knight's stage and I would rage quit the stage after dying more than twice, but I *finally* beat it. Felt great. There was some really fucking evil stuff towards the end of the stage. Love that shit soooo much. Lol.

Got this last night on Steam. While riding on a moving platform I got hit by falling lava, causing me to get knocked back in a pit. This made me nostalgiagasm so hard. In other games, this would infuriate me. This game is doing things right. I also like the sort of Demon's Souls thing this game is doing
where if you die you drop some gold that you can pick it back up, assuming you can get there without dying.

I am so fucked when I get there on my challenge run. :-(

Shovel Knight still looks way better. More colors, real actual parallax layers, more/bigger objects on screen, no slowdown or flickering of sprites.
I do feel like the parallax layers are kind of the biggest thing breaking the illusion, some NES games managed it but it seemed to be under specific circumstances, such as MM5's water motorcyle or whatever it was. I guess it's something of a concession to make it really interesting looking on 3DS (and to include some trickier bits) rather than make it kind of... well, flat there. :P

For at-launch support I'm pretty sure Transistor had it, even with some of the PS4's quirks.

3DS version

They nailed the retro feel. All the way down to requiring you press the start button to advance through menus. Kept wondering why the "A" button was sending me back.

Great game. Much better than I anticipated. I haven't got too far yet but it almost feels like you have too much health.

Alright, moment of truth. Damn you Wii U DDP, you're denying me my glorious 3D effects because of your shitty awesomeness.

You can use "B" to get through the menus.

The game is really fun but FUCK that
optional forest level where you need to phase over spikes. If the phase item lasted just a half a second longer it would be so much less frustrating.

Oh my god fuck new game +. Enemies do double damage, and there are only two checkpoints in each level now: one halfway through, and one just before the boss.

Yeah, there's no chance in hell I'm beating this. I can't even get through Treasure Knight's level. I give up.

Just beat it, took 5.5 hours for me. Absolutely loved the ending! This is by far my favorite game of the year and probably last year as well (hey, I have a humongous backlog lol). This game hit me in all the right spots. My earliest memories of gaming were playing Mega Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. on the NES, 8-bit and 16-bit gaming is ingrained in me. I almost can't even put into words how much I love this game.
